I have had mine 2 years and not driven it once. Surely that has to be a record. Infact for the last year it never even had any back wheels lol
-
aye, and let that be a lesson to ya
-
so - "ABS, for people like to stamp on their brakes :D" Chris it would appear that your car isnt the only thing you have been 'pumping' lately considering your impending fatherhood lol
-
Interesting you saying you are ditching your ABS Lee (312mm brakes thread), do you not like the ABS? I am in a situation where I have all the kit but I am not sure whether to fit it or not. I have only ever really had it come on on gravel and snow, but then its less than useless because it doesnt let you press the pedal at all. Some might say I dont try hard enough, but I think I definately do. If you apply the brakes properly (squeeze not stamp) you dont lock up - well thats what I have found. I would be interested in peoples opinions.

I have had a bora 130bhp tdi for the last year and a half (from new) and I have absolutley screwed the knackers off it from day one. There are a number of people in the company fleet who drive like pansies and their cars have the worst oil consumption. Mine is about the best in the fleet (12 cars) p.s. I never let it warm up either, it gets walloped from turn of the key and it loves it mu hu hu ha ha ha haaaaaa!

aye dont bother - its a pile of shyte, been meaning to take it out for ages. anyways I cant shim the stub axle because the syncro system does not have stub axles it has full wishbones which the hbs press straight into. -
that looks silly. I much prefer the engine bay kev posted up. That one looks like it hasnt been plumbed in yet

lol ok :D I think I would rather have a trip over to america and buy a 24v vortech kit from over there and have a free holiday with the money I will save... Back to the brakes, i have made a bracket up (out of wood) that fits 280mm discs on the rear. I tried to get 256mm discs but I just couldnt get them to fit, so 280s it is!!! I have 312s on the front so they should have more braking power, and if I do find that the there is too much braking on the rear I will make up some porsche calipers to go on the front. Mega stoppage :-) -
does it matter that the speakers are facing the wrong way? Or are you trying to mount some sort of sonic attack on the car behind?
-
lol I was just thinking, that back engine appears to be missing a bit, then it went pop!

you should hear it. It has no mechanical noises at all. Its would sound like a sowing machine next to a VR. it is litterally brand new. no road grime on it anywhere, plenty garage dust though :-) -

I will make a descision sometime in the future :D Basically all I can use in the vr6 charger kit, is the charger.... everthing else will have to go the journey.... I think its got to be either 2 or 3. I thought of another negative for the R32 swap - my engine has 9000 miles on it! and I would be getting rid of it! madness! anyways I will let you know how it all goes, should be doing a bit on it tonight so I will take some snaps. -

ask him what he has used. The main problem is that the rear stub axles on the mk2/3/corrado are nothing like the rear setup on a mk4. Ideally you need to find a car that had the same stub axle, but bigger discs, and I am not sure there is any. Anyways what do you reckon about these revised options: 1. P1ss about and adapt this vr6 charger kit to fit - I reckon its going to cost me a grand to get it right. 2. sell the charger kit and buy a proper 24v charger kit that will just bolt on. 3. Sell both the charger and 2.8 engine and buy an R32. ..... or option 17. wait for the new audi TT R32 Turbo to come out and fit one of those :D ignoring option 17 I am just not sure which to go for. -
well I dont speak from full experience, but I had 288s on my VR mk2 without ABS and I can honestly it was best stopping car I have ever been in, it was absolutely class. Daz who I bought the banana off ran with 288s for a while and said they were excellent too. He then fitted 312s and said the difference is like night and day. Ask anyone who knows him, he is an absolutely nutter on the brakes! Interestingly he said that he disconnected the ABS as it was 'rubbish' and heated up the brake fliud too much on a track day

whats the furry covering you have got on there? is it spray on or material?

re the rear brakes: my rear axle is totally different to yours kev. I have hubs that are the same disc fitment as the fronts. You will be limited by what rear discs you can buy. Does the mk4 golf 2wd run vented discs? If not you are screwed -

No access to an R32 lump as of yet Ben, but then I am not really looking at the moment! If I wanted one I am sure I could locate one. I reckon its going to cost me at least a grand to setup this charger. I have to buy/make brackets, buy an intercooler and pipe work, then I have to get the motor remapped. and I reckon that I could raise enough funds through selling the charger and 2.8 block to fund an R32, which as I say it just bolt into place. Then I could fit a proper supercharger kit for that at a later date, should the need arise ';-) and the kit will just bolt on and be setup in a matter of hours wont it kev lol plus I will have the kudos of an R32 that people seem to toss off over all the time lol -
Are there any 'low risk' areas left?

The freeze doesnt bother me Chris, I have a heated garage mmmmmmm  I am working on the brakes now, bit of a typo before I meant 256mm vented discs not drilled. I am not fitting the ABS striaght off, although I have it I am going to save that for phase 2. Speaking of phase 2 I am in 2 minds of what to do. I have 2 options really. 1) fit the charger and p1ss about with intercooling etc etc. 2) sell the charger and the 2.8 to make way for an R32... I know the charged 2.8 will make far more power, but the R32 will be a plug an play thing, and will be good for a normally aspirated 250bhp. I dunno....thing is I know when it goes on the track and ben comes sailing past me in his turbo, I will be wishing I had the forced induction! R32 or Charged 2.8 descisions descions..... -

ah. Right. well I now have the floor in place and welded in, although I might have already told you that lol I have the back axle in too. all that remains is for me to sort out the rear brakes - I am fitting S2 rear calipers onto 256mm drilled discs, the exhaust (as in it currently doesnt have one), and get it painted. Should be ready in about a fortnight ;-) I will take some pics tomorrow night
