why did you get charged for a strut rebuild from koni?............where they not under lifetime warranty?...........strange as i've heard of them replacing a complete KONI coilover kit FOC just cos it had siezed after 3 years of use and couldn't be adjusted for height :? also you should be able to pick up the FK konigsport kit for under £600........ask darren aka 8vG60 or also john aka 16vG60 for pricing both of these guys have contacts to get them for under the £600 mark

did the VW dealer that did the inspection have a rough idea as to what would be the costs involved of them fixing the problems that came up btw? as my VW dealer did my oil cooler seals and charged approx £40inc vat and seals ps i'm not sure what the water pipe joiner bit is tho :?

multi-belt is also know as the "V"-belt or the "serpentine" belt(approx £25 for the part) and about 30 mins labour ABS fault could be something simple as the switch on the pedal to more serious stuff brake discs as jims16v rigthly said are cheap as chips.............AtE power grooves are £58+vat(pair) for the fronts and you can get the rears(pair) for just over £30-ish+vat........though if you get the rears done your as well getting the rear wheel bearings done too oil cooler seals are cheap as chips too approx £2+vat ea in total plus under an hours labour brake pipes will have probably been the originals so its something you would need to replace soon anyway cost........depends on who you get to do them......any local garage should do this no problem sunroof can be a dear one tho.............as its probably more than likely the s/roof guides playing up as for the MOT if the brake pipes are that bad then it should be picked up on the MOT also if the abs light doesn't go off after a few seconds that constitiutes a MOT failure and it all depends on how badly worn the discs are for it to fail if it passes the MOT then buy it but knock a few hundred off for the above repairs

neither did i............just guessing with the PA after it and thank you please

right mate.........i'm afraid that you do have to go to the dealer for this :( and you need to have the master transmitter(one with the red lense over the LED)as the dealer needs this one to re-code the replacement one and the existing one btw......deleted your other post about this in the general chat section

What are the best spark leads and plugs for a VR6
vr6storm replied to BarneyVR6's topic in Engine Bay
NGK platinum plugs are supposed to last for approx 40k mile intervals........though to be honest they are more than double the cost of the standard NGK plugs which are good for 20k intervals.......so unless you hate changing plugs or have a VSR 8) its not really worth changing to the platinum ones IMHO -
You can get a set of Koni coilovers for less than that............ i think he means dollars tho  ................ tho it might help if people put where they are from in there post/or sig

I was taking the mic... my point was that all suspension packages compromise of a spring and damper, all in one (though not in certain cars ), and the springs in all setups can be changed etc.. etc.. coilovers aren't special. Just handy. really brian you taking the mic :? ...............and i never knew that coil-overs weren't special  .......so thanks for that info  so when you going to explain engines to me next?  LOL
-
insurance standard part are rubbish insist on having the work done at a main dealer or specialist, they cannot say where the work is carried out. that is up to you. as nigel says make sure its done by a main dealer or VW-approved paintshop...............and as far as i can remember you are legally entitled to getting it done by the manufacturers agent's/approved paintshops
-
its also worthwhile changing the "serpentine" belt or "V" belt(the belt for the alternator, water pump and power steering pump) at approx 60k intervals too.........
-
hehehehe........very handy to have too darren  ........pheww looks like my speeding ticket was time-barred      LOL

well the missus has a Ford Ka and there's nothing really decent in my street apart from a pretty tidy M-plate E-36 325i coupe..........and my storm of course  ..........though one of the neighbours that moved a couple of years ago did have a very tidy escort cosworth 8)..........and he must have had a few other escort cossie owning mates as one weekend there were 3 of them in the street.....a twockers heaven right enough

i bought it at the VW-books stall at biggar this year ......all for the princely sum of £6...........but you can order them from here http://www.volkswagen-repair-manuals.co.uk/ seems to be detailed enough if your a competent mechanic and of course saves you getting the Bentley manual all dirty
-
of course you could buy one of these and see if you think you can handle the job yourself
-
does sound a bit high right enough......though to be honest the guages aren't exactly totally accurate.....mine indicates 100+ deg C when it is in fact only 92-ish...........as long as the fans come on you should be ok but i would get it checked out by a garage for "peace of mind"
-
just out of interest GazzaG60......how long did you have them on before you had the dampener leak?????
-
    ye cheeky so and so.............well i guess i'm nearer being hardy  than brian but at the same time brian's a bit short of being laurel

What are the best spark leads and plugs for a VR6
vr6storm replied to BarneyVR6's topic in Engine Bay
also joe M the platinum ones are only worthwhile if you have the likes of the vsr fitted as they standard NGK's cost less than half the price of the platinum NGK's and have 20k and 40k service intervals respectively......though its wise to change either a bit more frequently -
What are the best spark leads and plugs for a VR6
vr6storm replied to BarneyVR6's topic in Engine Bay
i've always been told that the NGK's are the best for coping with how hot the engine can get.........as for the leads not too sure really just like everything else get the best that you can afford -
and HUGE repair bills and parts costs........though i must admit i do kind of like them........and if you had a UK-spec/supplied one they were pretty rare(75-ish) till all these grey imports started
-
wasn't 100% sure if it did have standard ABS  and if memory serves me right its actually an AUDI design and apart from the C was fitted to the Passat........afterall just a year later VW had the ABF 2.0 16v engine in the Mk3 Golf GTI......which if that was fitted to the C would have been a huge improvement
-
And of course you cant take the spring away from the damper at all.... Welded on are they? Jesus! your obsessed with these dampers aren't you! If someone comes along and solves said problem, then thats me happy...... [/quote:5dc6a] err no........but you seem to be......i'm just trying to work out your logic for saying that you heard bad reports about koni's coilover kit yet you have a FK kit that utilises koni dampeners and where did i say that the spring is welded on :? unless you know different

right wussel, here in (my opinion of course) are the pros and cons of both 16 valvers 1.8 16v PRO's a bit faster 0-60 and top speed than the 2.0 16v £1k-1.5k entry level tho £2k upwards starting price for decent ones easier obtainable engine bits.....just look for a golf gti 16v if the engine goes bang don't need a cat fitted CON's really has to have super u/l to avoid pinking.....tho some do seem to run fine with 95-ron some have real poverty spec interiors(manual windows etc) quite a few have fallen into less caring owners hands fog lights and indicators look a bit dated with being recessed older style heater controls(personal opinion here btw) 2.0 16v PRO's newer........96 reg'd ones newest can run on 95-ron all have the later body mods late 92 regd cars should have the interior facelifts(personal opinion here btw) £2k-2.5k entry level ????ABS standard fitment???? CON's slightly slower than the 1.8 16v have to have a cat some early ones have the earlier interior(personal opinion here btw) ABS can be neglected and cost a small fortune to rectify £3.5k+ for the best ones hope that helps you a bit
