Well, picked it up this morning and the chassis is sounder than I could have hoped for - inner wings, battery tray, insides of the arches, sills - all completely free of rot! However, I have a bit of a dilemma now, as the car is actually 100% completely original, literally exactly the same spec as it left the factory - it's never had a stereo installed, no wiring has been altered, nothing! All that's happened is usual wear and tear, dull paint, few dings, driver's seat bolsters completely collapsed, seat fabric worn through and stuff... Feel a bit guilty about what I've got planned now!

Vehicle Wiring Products - great company to deal with
gradeAfailure replied to Andy665's topic in Suppliers Forum
Yup, I've used them several times (sure I mentioned them as well!) and they've always be top banana... :) -
Polishing's for tarts... ;) Being worried about where I park it, agonising over stonechips, dings, swirls, rust scabs, spending 6 hours trying to decide which of the 27 virtually identical waxes to use...? No thanks... heheh... Hopefully as long as the chassis is sound, I have plans...

Well, as of 8:36pm and thanks to the joy (yeah right) that is eBay, I am back in the Dub scene after selling the VR last year...! Well, I will be when I go and collect it... Not quite a VR on RS301s though...

Looking good Jim...! For those of you in the south-east, i can recommend getting aerosols made up from http://www.automotivepaintsupplies.co.uk as the ones they supply have a spray pattern very similar to a proper spray gun (ie. a vertical line, not the random splatter that normal aerosols have), plus they can supply aerosol 1K lacquer, and an aerosol lacquer blending spray too...

Don't buy one then... easy solution! Like the look of them on the right car but voted ham due to the fact that ham is better than cars anyway... ;)
-
I'm quite liking that actually - nice to see something different...

Stock Corrado leather interiors have vinyl as the back panels for the seats and also the lower section of the front doorcards afaik; there may be other sections that aren't leather...

Worth giving Tim at The Phirm a quick call seeing as they're not a million miles away... :)

People who know my car(ex crazymarcel/gradeafailure) help me
gradeAfailure replied to Son of a Beesting's topic in Engine Bay
I reckon best thing to do would be speak to either Stealth or The Phirm about it tomorrow - Stealth as they did the retro-fit, and potentially The Phirm as Tim knows shedloads about VR engines as well... :) Anyway, when do the pics go up mate...?! -
Sounds like a knacked motor I reckon... if you've got a multimeter, check you've got 12V getting to the motor when you activate the switch...

Sony 16 pin to 2x female ISO Buy that! Car side should be male housing with female pin connectors, stereo side will be female housing with male connector pins (as can be seen on the eBay ad).
-
Sounds like a nice car - I don't know how the price compares in the US market, but a 45k G60 is still a bit of a rarity! An auto-manual conversion may not cost as much as you think as well - The Phirm on this side of the pond (http://www.thephirm.co.uk) have done one on marcus's VR, and a couple of other guys have done their own without too much hassle. The mods you've listed sound like a good starting block though - if you're making it faster, make sure the brakes are up to it!
-
Does the car feel fast enough on the road for you? If so, don't get too hung up on RR figures - calculating flywheel figures from wheel figures is more of an art than a science... unless the curve is showing major flat spots, under/over-fuelling, or you're not happy with how fast it is, RR figures are just for pub bragging... ;) Just my 2penn'orth...

See, we thought that, but in a couple of places it definitely looks like lacquer on the bodywork... apologies, I digress... I wouldn't bother with high-build primer, you're not trying to even out any surface imperfections on such a small piece! Just a few good even coats of a gray zinc primer, flat it back with w&d, then a few good coats of the Flash Red should see you right... If you feel you should lacquer it, w&d the paint then again, a few good coats of clear on top... If it all goes pear-shaped, just let it dry, sand it back and do it again! Nae worries...

Try emailing mailto:[email protected] - who Scorpion (OEM alarm) are now owned by/called... He sorted me out with a new fob for my '92 Passat's original alarm...

Although that can also be a sign that the heat exchanger (factory oil cooler) has gone as well...

Though this might help people out - post up links to (legitimate) places where you can get user manuals and installation instructions for head units and the like... Sony Europe Kenwood USA Clarion Installation Clarion User manuals Alpine User Manuals JVC Pioneer

Refuse it. You've said nor signed anything to say that you're accepting that offer, so don't. Trawl Autotrader and get proof that to buy another one in the same condition would cost twice as much, and also include the receipt for the car from not 48hours previous. Insurers are c***s, fight them.
