No launch control on the 7 speed DSG unless its been modified on the Polo version. Which I doubt. Yes it is a quiet engine if you are looking for something like VR6 sound track. That is what hit me on the test drive as well in a Golf Mk6 GT (as the Scirocco 1.4 was rare in May 2009). It just does what you want to do with no fuss. .
-
So what did you think of the engine/gearbox ? .
-
Which spoiler mechanism have you fitted? Can't work out from the previous postings. Is the one fitted at present the one you wrote about being greased up???? Or the original?? Working with an increased fuse value (20 amp) suggests the mechanism is stiff causing the electric spoiler motor to draw more current. Or the motor itself is drawing more current because of internal damage. The fact it works on the switch with 20 amps means no short in the dash switch or spoiler mechanism micro-switch or where the wires pass from the body roof to the tail gate in the rubber gaitor or the general wiring length. .

Yes I have a 1.4TSi 160PS & 7 speed DSG in a Scirocco. Same engine with Supercharger & Turbo. Also drove the same engine/7spd DSG combo in a Golf Mk6 GT. Both cars drive exactly the same. Brilliant driving. Loads of bottom end torque. 7 speed either works with the engine between 1500rpm & 2500rpm under light driving or floor it and it goes all the way to 6,500rpm. In Sport mode it's even better. Engine is very quiet, unless you mod it with filters/tuning etc. 1st gear is very high ratio so in normal driving it kicks to 2nd very quickly (get the car rolling) then it works the rest of the 6 gears. In town/urban upto 40mph it uses 2nd to 6th. The 7th gear is like an overdrive gear with my engine turning over at 2,400 rpm at 70mph. The gear change is much slicker than the oil based clutch system in the 6 speed DSG because the 7 speed dry clutch operates quicker. On most gear changes, you don't know its changed gear other than the dash indicator! Bottom line, having another 7 speed the next time round. Paddles are good but only use them to override the gearbox where I want to be in a gear with the engine revving. Or when going down hill to have the engine braking on but due to tilt sensor and the brake ABS controller unit, it will change down to a lower gear if your foot is on the brake. Normal way of driving a manual box. The 7 speed DSG changes as I would expect to do with a manual box and reacts perfectly to your right foot onthe accelerator. Left foot. It's never twitched since I started driving it. And have no trouble getting into the other two manual box cars. Can't see the Polo being much different other than extra power and lighter body weight and therefore quicker than the Sciorcco. If there is one negative with the 160PS engine is it doesn't warm up quickly and the cabin heating can sap the heat out of the heat exchanger faster than the engine cooling can put it in if the air temp is below 5'C. As a consquence, in winter, it takes a long time to warm up if driving slowly, ie. 30 minutes. And so, you are cold in the car, no defrosting of the windscreen. If your trips are above 50mph this will be lessened quite amount, not to be noticeable. But my urban trips being the majority of less than 10 miles and mainly at 25mph, its a different story. Should be a letter (by yours truely) in VW Driver magazine about it all, in the March issue due out 16th February. Basically, the 160PS version of the 1.4TSi is overcooled. The 185PS may fair better. That said, the engine/gearbox is a great package and will be having another one if its still available in preference to a 6 speed DSG. Yes it is good fun! .

The Mk3 Scirocco uses the same bottom rod arrangement with clasp and arm fastened to the seat. Don't know what the reel mounting point is like though. Just checked the part that inserts into the seat arm. It measures the same but has a slight bend on it where the belt eye is attached. The bend to the lean the belt eye part into the driver/passenger slightly. Can't really see why this would not fit a Corrado other then the reel base mounting point. A few Mk3 Sciroccos on EBAY being broken up (already!). .

Agreed, the oil grade is a hot summer day's above 20'C for a 4 pot VW series engine of the 1980's. In winter temperatures the oil is like syrup when cold. Best all year round grade is 10w40. Or 15w40 if the engine is worn/summer use only. .

[/quote:3fihb4gh] Take the earth connection off and put it in something like a thick plastic bag to insulate. Leave the positive connected. Check the voltage once a week. When it hits 12 volts (25% charged) while not connected, charge up. The battery goes down in charge very slowly due to self-discharge, just as they do in a shop selling batteries. That self-discharge to 12 volts is dependant on age and condition of the battery. Only weekly checks ensures you catch it early. Its not weekly but more a few of months at least for a fully charged new battery. A battery at the end of ists useful life it may discharge inside a month. The negative to this is .... - the battery is still in the Corrado, so with it being outside, its easier to nick as the alarm etc is not working. And the battery can re-connected very easily. - As the battery becomes more discharged, given its outside, then its more prone at the lower charge state to freezing. Probably fine still at 0'C to -3'C but given prolonged weather recent at -15'C, most likely could freeze if low charge state is coincident with a spell of extreme cold weather. .
-
Trouble with the solar ones I've used is ... a) not enough output current to keep the charge up over time especially if the battery is old. b) unless its changed, most don't work through tinted windscreens, so have to be outside. The only one I found that did was a VW one used when storing VW New Beetles in the USA. Link Part No. 1C0 915 687D Needed three unit though to combat the system discharge rate (ie, Battery + Clocks). They come with a cigarette lighter connector or 16 pin diagnostics socket connection. .

When early bonnets ran out of stock & obsolete, VW sold the later one as a spare for the early Corrado. .

I use one of these outside, its waterproof. Meant for bikes, Charges a 63 amp battery OK. Ring RSC4 Battery Charger Ring SmarCharger RSC4.jpg[/attachment:t3dvpr7v] .

Which ECU VW part number have you got fitted? .
-
Well that is what I thought when looking at the instruments on ETKA late last night, think it would think be so. Just a thought, if the VR6 ECU can't see a speed sender, that would generate a fault, but it should have returned after being cleared. ????? .
-
Yes, Basic Settings as per second half of the ECU Reset proceedure should be applied. .
-
Speedo fault won't affect fuelling / performance. .

Fuse 16 is Dash Instrument insert, glovebox light, rear spoiler, optional instruments. You are reading only part of the circuit. Trace busbar "k" in the relay plate in the area at the top of the diagram onto other pages. You will find the "other" cicuits hanging on it. From the photos it looks like arching started with random touching due to continuous vibration as you drove and so the current is not high enough to immediately blow the fuse, hard on metal to metal and it would have blown in a fraction of a second. Sufficient though to melt wiring insultation. Fuse wasn't defective. Behaving as one would expect under soft short circuit, ie. the fuse needs to heat up and slowly melts unlike a dead short. I always carry a fire extinguisher, one in the boot and one under my driver's seat. I have three in the daily driver. .

I presume you have the right engine ECU, right chipped keys, Engine ECU loom (& key ignition barrel reader coil). In certain matching conditions of the system you may also need the immobiliser's original code otherwise a dealer will only be able to download the immobiliser code (and the Corrado has to be hooked up to the VAS machine on-line to Germany). Read here about use of Imobiliser 1. The wiring additions for the Corrado wiring diagrams were never released by VW. You will have to refer to the Golf Mk3 circuits and translate. Use VCDS to match the immobilser, keys and engine ECU if what you have in the way of above that does not need the immobiliser code because they are all known units/keys to each other. Just a few thoughts....... C.

???? That's code 00513 that shows when stationary! Thats the speedo drive cicuit. Sender on top of the gearbox faulty or the wiring. Speedo dancing about at in the past or been disconnected. If it cleared and stayed clear, forget it and re-check in a months time. As said the unit on the side of the throttle body. Not cheap £61.52 + VAT. Either open circuit or a short internally. Also check connection at the TPS and associated wiring for internal break due to damage/kink. Also check the throttle cable isn't binding and it is fully shutting. .

Speak to Tameside Council about a garage. You can rent them for around £5 a week. I did that in Stockport for a while. Put name on waiting list and within 6 months had one. Or post an ad locally to see if someone will let you use their garage. Older people sometimes will let out their garage as it has no car in it. Alternatively there is a place down in Leek where I also used to store. .

Help get obsolete parts re-introduced via VW Classic Parts!
RW1 replied to Pat_McCrotch's topic in Suppliers Forum
They are a really nice outfit. I'm not surprised at the personal letter. Thorsten Wieseler who I speak to on the phone is also a very nice chap. They've moved out of the old Automuseum some time back (door in a side wall opened into an Aladdin's cave :) ) Now in an old dealership garage in Wolfsburg. Ship everything through VW Wolfburg's Logistics Dept (DHL). Even the crates are worth keeping for storage. I might add that I also get VW parts as original manfacturer from this guy. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/tierod69 He's reliable. Just bought an ATE brake part from him for the VR6. Maybe if he was given a list, quantity and including manufacturer's name, he may be able to source non stamped VW original supplier parts. . -
You may as well ask -, B & D ! Then you've got all 5 variants. Some are in kph :cuckoo: Different sales markets, different speed trigger points. Different connections. ....... .

I have to stand corrected having got to the bottom of my notes. The "A" will fit but its a 45mph one. .
-
Naaa... not quite. I have three EKTA's / MicroFische from different years of issue by VW in front of me. ALL disagree with whats fitted to which chassis numbers. So dug out the notes. .
-
Factory - chassis 50PK010023 onwards have "C".... Mid April 1993 onwards built, not registered. But if someone has previously fiddled with the circuit resistors it could now be different to 56mph for UK. .
