Well you need to look at my thread mate, it was a G60 so i cant say what an 8v feels like, and its turbo'd now, but to answer the question i think all rados like 3rd gear, it can be really docile at low revs depending on gear used and once it reaches 3000-3200rpm its on full 1.5 bar boost so really shifts then.

What engine has it got most importantly and whats the plans.
  6. Agree real nice looking welds they are :D
  7. Fair do's bud never said it was new news :D , but the q was was it ever shown, although thinking about it, it was not even to do with top gear anyhow, just at the track they use i suspect, either way still a bloody quick motor for the road whether they (Top Gear) say its a road car or not. All get ready for biggerbigben coming flying past you on a dual carriageway near you soon.
  8. So no use to me then as i still need 3rd for 60 and i want 2nd for the sprinting, but still it must be quite like mine now how yours is and with 400bhp how can you say its better, dont you just sit there spinning. You say it feels quicker but are you actually quicker cos if you spend less time changing and changing at a point where you wont wheelspin as easily then surely your going to be quicker, or is that what you know already by saying its no good for sprinting.
  9. @ Cheesewire What gear speeds do you get with the 3.68 final drive on a VR gearset, as you may know i am looking into boxes and was going to use the VR set in my box but not sure if that also means a VR final drive or G60. In my box now i get 80mph at 3200rpm and it seems a step backwards to me as im looking to make the gears longer as its uselss at the moment in 1st and 2nd just way too short. Sorry to go off topic
  10. I would have thought transplanting the matching engine and box would be easier than just putting a 6 speeder onto an existing original engine, but may still require a lot of work depending on the driveshafts. Im not been much use as usual so im going to be quiet now.
  11. What engine you got, sure its been done but not by many so i suspect pretty hard.
  12. I know how nice is it. How you like JD's car IMG_1646_2.jpg[/attachment:1h531deb]
  13. Jammy git been there and jammy git if the sunroof still opens.
  14. It can be the gearbox speed sensor as mine does it but my dash functions still work, but when my car was new it had a new set of clocks after 8 k which was apparently to do with a speedo problem.
  15. Bill Brockbank will always be around, it all funds his track habit.
  16. Not sure what you mean by right compression ratio but 9.1 is good for FI.
  17. We all should be driving with 1 of these in the bay. 16vG60T.jpg[/attachment:332qxoy2]
  18. A car like that would be too big tbh and maybe the 16v sounds the better option as she never goes over 3k so at least i would be safe in the knowledge that she isnt driving fast hopefully, then when i drive it i can at least have some fun in it.
  19. I personally love the older feel and look of the rado and i have said that in the past compared to the facelifted rado, feels how it should do to me. Anyway as she will be going from a new car to an older 1 its prob best to get something that feels newer. Put your views across regarding engine choice as 2 people say def get 1 over the other. 8v V's 16v? Let the debate begin (reminescent of the good old whats better G60 v VR6) lets not go there.
  20. So the general concensus seems to watch for rust as usual but now at least i have specific places. Agree they are pretty solid generally hence why the option to get 1. Its all helping so keep them coming. Tbh seen quite a few 16v's, more than i thought i would but yes there is more 8v's.
  21. Since the other half was in the crash in her 55 POLO 1.2 recently and she has been driving the Mazda 3 1.6 courtesy car, she has decided she no longer wants the Polo as its just not going to feel the same anymore and the Mazda is a larger car which she now likes the feel of, a larger car that is not the car itself. Been looking to sell the Polo pay off the finance and buy a cheapish car as a run around outright, so looking on Autotrader there is a few MK 3 Golf GTI's around between £1000 - £1500 that seem reasonable and honest enough, looking at the 2.0 16v's. So is there any specific/common faults on Golfs and the engines that we need to be looking for as you do get what you pay for but were not looking for something immaculate but want to get the best we can for our budget. It just needs to be able to start every morning and do 20 - 30 miles a day.
  22. Just saving the pennies while its off the road, it still works just wanting longer ratios. Update then Currently needing New Passenger inner CV Replace front pads, completely shot, have DS2500 waiting but its just too cold to get motivated Fuel as it wont even get me to the garage 2 miles away Oil Repair non sliding sunroof Downpipe blowing 2 front tyres, gonna steal 2 off the mrs's alloys in the garage road tax investigate electric recaro passenger seat for back rest tilt replace fuse for fogs and horn and replace horn send off aquamist pump for repair maybe wash it for once and polish it heater works on 4 only So all in all not too much to do and nothing too major, might just do the tyres, brakes, cv, put oil and fuel in then just drive it as usual, jobs a good 1.
  23. Saw that myself and somebody got a right bargain i suspect. I agree i would get the Recaro's, dont worry how people see your car, its you who drives it from the inside so be in comfort.
