Can you hear it sort of sucking the fuel up the pipes when you first start her up ? Yeah I know it mine whines too, but I was concerned about the start up noise ?
-
Right, this is for people with a Sytec pump fitted in their tank. I was just wondering if yours makes the same sucking sound when you first start it up. It sounds a bit like someone sucking the last bit of milkshake through a straw, in the room next to you. I don't Know if thats a great description, but if yours is the same you'll know what I mean, lol

Cheers guys, looks like Ill be fitting a fixed one when I get round to fitting Eibach ARBs and re-con rack later this year. I dont suppose its £100 for new parts is it kev ?

Yeah, sorry

Im gonna be watching this thread closely, good on you ya JIMMI mate !! 8) -
That is a possiblity, I have checked the plug, but I could trace the cable back and have a good look!

It is a Sykes Pickervant oil pressure tester.

Well got the new MAF on Friday and I was so excited, thinking this would solve all my problems like every part I buy for it, lol  It turns out that after turning up at my Dad's with the engine warmed up, I disconnected the battery and swapped them over. Took the car out for a spin and it run like a bag of s**t, even after half an hour, cutting out at every junction! It was also kangarooing and spluttering on over run, it also cut out and wouldnt start for a while as it was flooded or something. The only way I could drive it safely home was with the fuel reg vac hose off it doesn't cut out :? After I got back from work this evening I changed the MAF back to the original. I then drove it to my Dads with the vac hose off again , and wow what a difference in power and pull! I think the new MAF is NAFFED! So just my luck! Ive given it back to the old man to swap and try again! I'm running the car now with the vac hose off so it doesn't cut out! It doesn't run too bad really, but its still wrong! I have to just wait for the new MAF and try that. And if that hasn't solved the problem, its time to give up and hand it over to someone else! My dad knows a master technician that would take a look at it for me, but lets just hope the MAF sorts it ?

Right well I done a retest this evening and I think all is well! Engine nice and hot, idle was just above 2bar, increasing to 2000rpm it raised smoothly to about 3.5bar and around 3-5 at 3000 ish. I guess everything's pretty normal then ? Oh and the gauge is only 8bar, so I was getting worried over nothing lol! Cheers for all the feedback guys ! :)
-
Im sure when I tested it at around 70 degrees, idle was around 2bar then revving it to 2500-3000 it hit the end of the gauge, 10bar gauge a think! The pressure seems to rise fairly rapid with the revs. I was thinking what would the pressure be at 4-6k ? !
-
Should I be seeing 8-9 bar hot or cold at 3-4k ?
-
Can someone please tell me what sort of pressure I should have at 2000 rpm? And what is the Maximum Im likely to see at say 4000-5000? That would be great cheers !
-
Thats exactly how felt, so I got one off the bay, turned up the next day! Even though I didnt really need one, lol !
-
Your can pick these up from Probe Distributors, not Beru though for £95 inc on ebay! This also comes with a three year warranty!
-
Sorry for being off topic but my brother works there 8) :D Well small world eh! :) Im hoping this is the cause cause of my year long running/stalling problems! I shouldnt have anything go wrong with the engine for quite a while, as Ive replaced every sensor and fuel and ignition components with new! This has been a costly search and has taught me never to buy second hand MAFs again lol! I think Ill move to Emerald stand alone if the MAF fecks up again, or I Rotrex it ! Time to pay off what Ive already spent on the damn thing, and that could take a while !
-
Yes that is a staff discounted price. I'm not sure how strict they are on staff discount and that, but I could ask him. They may wonder why he has ordered two of the same part though. Didn't cheesewire say you could order them through Bosch for £150 exchange ?
-
Well I just called my dad who works for Amersham Audi. He ordered it today and said it was £150, but wasnt sure if that was plus the VAT.
-
I am buying a brand new MAF, but waiting for it to turn up. I just thought Id give one of the second hand ones Ive brought a clean and disconnect the battery and give it a whirl. Well it didn't go very well, the car was almost undrivable, cutting out, bucketing and spluttering! So I pulled over after about 2-3 mins popped the bonnet and unplugged the MAF. Started her back up and it idled like a bag of s**t, with the battery light flickering and all! Obviously it was still learning adaption and stuff, so I run it for I while 5-10 mins and the idle improved, as in the battery light wasn't flickering anymore, but no where near any ideal! The good thing was that it didn't die when coming up to junctions or lights, which just answers what I already knew, it needs a MAF! My question is though Ive heard people say they were running their car with the MAF unplugged, because of problem with it etc. Will the car idle like it was for me, really, really, lumpy. Even if you disconnect the battery and carry out basic settings with it unplugged ?
-
I have a 1994 coil pack with AG ECU I think .
-
Yeah I have been thinking about Emerald Kev. But that's a lot more money, and can you use the sensors that Ive already replaced? I have just forked out for a remap as well! I called my dad to order it through Audi, which will be discounted, but not as cheap as 150! Where did you get yours from as Ive tried Bosch before, and have been told I have to go through a supplier ?
-
As I said Ive now replaced probably every sensor, relays, switchs, a brand new ISV, coil pack, leads bar a MAF which I did clean, and have swapped for two second hand units. Ive even swapped the ECU. I have vag com, but it hasnt shown much, I sometimes get idle adaption not reached.
-
Right, well I thought it was a long shot thinking it was going to solve my problem anyway ! Would low charge at idle cause it to cut out, and lumpy idle ? Its also started hunting aswell ! I think Im just going to have to increase the overdraft and buy A blasted MAF ! Ive replaced every sensor/switch fuel pump etc, etc ! :bad-words:
-
I was just wondering what should happen if you unplug your cam position sensor on a VR6 ? When I disconnected mine at idle, nothing really happened, should it of done ? I did run it as well and I think it did run different, its hard to tell as its running like an absolute bag of poo at the minute. I was just thinking if something may of happened to the CPS pick up that I fitted, may be I damaged it or something ?
-
Right it seems that my running problems just don't want to be cured! I have replaced many parts, sensors etc and still I have cutting out and lumpy idle! Here's a list of what has been done or replaced recently : NEW ITEMS IGNITION LEADS VW ISV VW PLUGS NGK CAM PS AND PICK UP VW LAMBDA GSF FUEL PUMP RELAY ECU RELAY COIL PACK TPS TRIED NEW ING SWITCH FPR VW FUEL PUMP FUEL FILTER BLUE TEMP SWITCH SECOND HAND ITEMS MAF X2 ECU COIL PACK INJECTORS WORK CARRIED OUT FULL HEAD REBUILD CHECKED OR VAC LEAKS ETC REMAPED BY VINCE STEALTH It seems to start up quite roughly and recently started hunting for idle revving up and down between 650-1000. It doesn't seem sluggish and runs fine on the motorway etc. When slowing down coming up to a junction or lights, it just dies, the revs drop fast and the red lights come on! When coasting just drop the clutch and it cuts out. It starts up straight away but I still feel as though it turns over quite a lot before sparking, which I'm not sure if that's the norm for VRs, but it can take 2-3 secs ? It has on maybe two to three occasions cut out and then refused to spark! But after a couple of attempts starts again This made me start thinking that it could be the crank sensor playing up ? I must say that I don't think that the second hand MAFs have been any good either so that could still be the problem. I don't suppose anyone on here, that doesn't live that far from Brighton, has got a good MAF I could try, as I cant really afford a new one if it isn't the cause of this year long annoyance !! Ill be fitting a new crank sensor on Saturday so that will add another thing to the list. I really don't think there's much left to try ? Any advice is greatly welcome !
