  1. Right it seems that my running problems just don't want to be cured! I have replaced many parts, sensors etc and still I have cutting out and lumpy idle :x Here's a list of what has been done or replaced recently : NEW ITEMS IGNITION LEADS VW ISV VW PLUGS NGK CAM PS AND PICK UP VW LAMBDA GSF FUEL PUMP RELAY ECU RELAY COIL PACK TPS TRIED NEW ING SWITCH FPR VW FUEL PUMP FUEL FILTER SECOND HAND ITEMS MAF X2 ECU COIL PACK INJECTORS WORK CARRIED OUT FULL HEAD REBUILD CHECKED OR VAC LEAKS ETC REMAPED BY VINCE STEALTH It seems to start up quite roughly and recently started hunting for idle revving up and down between 650-1000. It doesn't seem sluggish and runs fine on the motorway etc. When slowing down coming up to a junction or lights, it just dies, the revs drop fast and the red lights come on! When coasting just drop the clutch and it cuts out. It starts up straight away but I still feel as though it turns over quite a lot before sparking, which I'm not sure if that's the norm for VRs, but it can take 2-3 secs ? It has on maybe two to three occasions cut out and the refused to spark! But after a couple of attempts starts again :? This made me start thinking that it could be the crank sensor playing up ? I must say that I don't think that the second hand MAFs have been any good either so that could still be the problem. I don't suppose anyone on here, that doesn't live that far from Brighton, has got a good MAF I could try, as I cant really afford a new one if it isn't the cause of this year long annoyance !! Ill be fitting a new crank sensor on Saturday so that will add another thing to the list. I really don't think there's much left to try ? Any advice is greatly welcome !
  2. Cheers mate Im pleased as well! :) Just one thing though, it cut out for the first time today and the idle is still a bit lumpy. I actually just stuck back on the original MAF the car had when I brought it, and I was wondering if buying a new one would improve things more so ?
  3. He asn't able to sort the stalling on mine (280BHP Stg2 OBD1 2.8), which is really bad, hot or cold. Did he manage to sort the problem out on your engine? What did he do? Do you think a brand new MAF might make a difference? As I said above, it was the MAF causing my problem. I think its hard to diagnose unless it packs up all together ! Its definitely worth thinking about !
  4. Well it looks like it was the MAF causing the cutting out after all Kev ! It doesn't cut out at all now which is great, and it f-ing flys which is even better ! I'm not too worried about the comp test as I might not of opened up the throttle whilst carrying it out or something ? The question is now could this be why my torque was just above average after the map ? Would the dodgy MAF of caused the dip in torque between 5 and 6k ? Could the fault of affected the power also? I'm so happy this has been resolved, I can now start enjoying the drive ! Thanks to everyone who helped with advice !
  5. Yeah I did, it made 230 bhp with 200 lbs ft of torque, with a dodgy MAF after the map. Was expecting more torque, but this could have something to do with the MAF ?

    re remap

eatthis, did you have to pay the full re-map price again ?
  7. Right, I just forked out £325 for a custom re-map yesterday after extensive head work and cams etc. The car was make good power 215bhp before the map and then 230bhp 200 lb ft of torque after ! The thing that concerns me is that it was cutting out rather a lot before the map, nearly every junction! When I got it to Stealth, Vince was puzzled that he couldn't sort out the stalling problem as simply as other VRs with the same problem ! All sensors are fine and a lot have been replaced due to the cutting out including fuel pump and reg. Vince was able to make changes to the map to help the problem, and it did reduce the stalling somewhat when hot but the problem still persists when cold! After I received the head back and built the car back up and ran it for a few miles I gave it a compression test to find that the pressures were good, the front three pistons were equal to each other as were the rear set but there is a bar difference between the front and back set. I was wondering if this has anything to do with the rough idle and it cutting out!? Could this imbalance be due to the flow work carried out on the head ? I will contact the man who carried out the work on the head for advice. This is obviously a great annoyance as I have spent a great deal of time and money on it and am having to take it apart again. Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated.

    re remap

Nice one, pleased for you mate ! Going for map on Friday, but I havnt got a charger :( May be Rotrex, low comp and 15-20 psi ! One day eh !
  10. I was also thinking of getting those OZs too ! You can get a sort of idea what they look like using this - http://www.bmf-application.com/oz/einstieg.htm Im still undecided, and I was really going for the lightness first before the looks. I think a set of 17"s, 5 stud, lowered a couple of times with the application looks not bad at all, what do you think ?
  11. You can always sign up and use paypal which is safer !
  12. Sometimes companies say the parcel worth less than it is so you dont get as much custom charge. It will still work out less than buying it in the UK anyways ! :)
  13. I should of got one of these sooner but their quite expensive. Im going to get a fuel pressure reg and see if thats the problem ? Ive been told that these very rarely go though, so I could just be adding to the forever growing list of things that arent going to break for a while, lol ! Fingers crossed !
  14. I know its been a while ChrisWardVR6, but did you sort your cutting out problems ? Im having the same problems at the mo its driving me mad
  15. I think I got mine from Gripforce, but I think there was two companys selling on Ebay.
  16. Right some of you will know that Ive had lumpy idle and cutting out problem for f-ing ages now, and it really puzzles me what the problem is! On the up side its booked into Stealth on Friday for a remap, that's if its possible to remap ! Just a question, why would taking the vac hose off the FPR stop it from stalling ! When it cuts out it does just dies, the revs drop quite fast then the ignition lights come on. This is happening regular, but taking the vac hose of the reg seems to stop it stalling, but you can see sometimes the revs dropping faster than it would normally, as though it would of stalled with the hose on :? ? The fella that done my head work did say that it would need remapping straight away and that it would be running rich, as old ECUs would chuck it so much percentage of fuelling. Others have told me that it should run fine as its all governed by the MAF, Lambda probe and sensors etc ? Any advice would be great, I think I may have to leave it to Vince to diagnose, or maybe it does just need remapping ! My worst fear is to drive all that way and for him to say that the cam timing is definitely out, as I'm certain its correct !
  17. I also have a switch and stat, but I think I need a new temp sender switch, as it rarely gets above 70 degrees ! I have also noticed lower oil temps too !
  18. martyjmcfly, I would assume that it still pushes 4 bar up to the engine, so shouldn't be a problem? VR6, yeah sorry
  19. After Vince telling me he doesn't really sell the rings separate, I phoned and cancelled the order from Demon. It turns out that the one I received from Vince today is actually for a Evo, and that's why you need the spacer. I spoke to him early and he said I could phone him up for help as it can be a little tricky. He also said that he will be taking photos of the next pump he fits, and doing a write up to send with the pumps in the future. I can mess around with my old housing before I take the pump out which is handy ! The Sytec pump listed for the VR6 is not that much greater than a standard, and as cheesewire said, this will handle 450-500 brake ! I may get some pictures up of how I installed it ?

  21. Right Ive gone for it, and ordered a sytec pump from Demon Tweeks. Does anyone know if these are easy to fit ? Does it just fit into the original pump housing easy enough, with out any problems ? There shouldnt be a problem with me putting it in the 3 bar pump Ive brought ? This has ended up being a very expensive pump !
  22. The Bentley states that the American spec has a 4bar with a 3.5 reg, and thats a 2.8 ?
  23. Corrado = 4 bar pump, 4 bar regulator Golf = 3 bar pump, 3 bar regulator. Well, actually, in both applications it's less than 2 bar with the vac line attached at idle, but when the engine goes atmospheric (full throttle), it raises to 3/4 bar and no more. There is just enough headroom in the 3 bar pump to sustain 4 on a stock motor, but with your cams etc, no way. Imo you should get a £95 Sytec uprated pump and be done with it. Enough fuelling for 500hp and more reliable than the Bisch Basch Bosch ones. Right I see now ! So the hole time its been the cars under fuelling rather than overfuelling. Taking the vac hose of is increasing the pressure, doh !
  24. TomD, that would be great cheers ! cheesewire, any problems fitting the sytec pump ? I was thinking about one of these, do you fit it into the pump housing ? I do think the ecu was over fuelling it anyway with the old pump. Why when I had the original pump in, taking the vac hose off stopped it stalling as much ?
  25. buttles, thanks mate but I think Im going to have to bite the bullet and buy another as soon as I can  I need to drive back to Hove tonight from Egham in Surrey, and I think Ill just take off the reg vac hose, as its quite dangerous cutting out at every junction !
