  1. Oh well you was right dr mat it was the column! After fiddling around with it at the weekend I located the play at the column adjusting mechanism! I normally have the steering set at one notch down from the highest setting ,but taking it up to the top........no more play hurray!! I just have to get use to the wheel being slightly higher. The car has never clunked or given me other problems, noises etc. So I Im happy with this cheap quick and easy fix!
  2. Ive got a K&N panel filter at the mo and it does give BOOORE! sound when accelerating hard, but I am thinking of sticking a induction kit of some kind on. Probably a CDA or Carbonio ,but am considering attaching a custom air feed from under the original box to the panel.
  3. Well done mate sounds like money well spent! :)
  4. Yes thats right, thats who I got this lot off. I do realise that trig ,Im thinking in the future mate not right now. Id like to see what Ill get with the goodies Ive got so far! Is your car finished now mate how does it feel ?
  5. I think Im going to fit my ported/port matched manifold at the minute with a reprofiled 2.9 TB. A little down the line use an adaptor to take the OBD2 TB with the manifold, and convert to OBD2! Itll be interesting to here how yours is now with OBD2 trig ?
  6. I'm thinking of taking my rack out and sending the it and the UJ to Driveshaftuk.com and let them have a look and if need be a refurb it'll cost me £140. Just thinking about getting a second hand column though. I shall replace these with poly rack mount and roll bars. Ive already replaced the wishbones, track rod ends and ball joints. Hopefully this will stop the play ?
  7. I think ive heard somewhere before that a 2.9 mani on a 2.8 is supposed to give more torque, and thats the reason why people fit them?
  8. So any tips at all to determine the play from the column? Is it just a question of taking the under trays out again and having a look around? I think I read earlier that the column isnt serviceable? So I guess I would have to start looking for a low mileage replacement! I am really not happy with the steering at the mo. I can only describe it as slack , vague and unpredictable! So any advice would be great cheers :)
  9. I had steering play - it proved to be the column itself, not the UJs or the rack.. Check yours out.. Do I need to remove it before I could tell if thats the problem?
  10. Right Im going to replace my drivers seat bolster but think something else is wrong with the seat. The metal bar seems to be very loose and can be moved around,so im assuming this has snapped off the frame! I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen and how they fixed it? Im thinking that maybe it will just be a case of getting it welded back on. I have seen the wiki guide on how to replace the bolster ,that will come in very handy cheers! :)
  11. have you got the part number for the seat rack lee? I do think mine could possibly be the UJ though as the slack in the steering only appears when turning over bumps.I did try to check the UJ before I went Stealth and nipped up the pinch bolts. What is the best way to determine UJ play? All ive ended up with now is a rubber rubbing the UJ as a turn the steering wheel. Ill have to get that boot on probably! :x I also checked the Allen bolts on the column, but they seemed fine.I have replaced the wishbone recently and all I know is the bolts were done up FT,so maybe I should get back under and torque them up! I havent replaced the rack bush yet but I dont think that would cause this problem would it?
  12. How much did it cost from GSF mate? And does anyone know if they would be the same torque settings as the nuts and studs with the alloy cover?
  13. Ok just ended up buying some bolts from VW! They cost £28.11 inc ,and the gasket for a tenner. Quite pricey but I need to get my bits together to carry out the mods before Santa on the 9th July! All I need know is the cams, tappets, injector seals, gaskets etc. The plastic covers are fitted to the late 98 VRs!

Zymol ,I dont know if thats the correct spelling do a product which is supposed to do exactly what youve asked! If youve got a demon tweeks cat have a look. Was thinking of getting a bottle myself! VRT :)
  15. I cant see why not the engines still round the same way isnt it anyone?
  16. Where did you buy your sytec pump from kev ?
  17. Doesnt it come down to flow rates etc?
  18. Thinking of replacing my tired fuel pump with an uprated aftermarket type. Has anyone fitted one and was there any improvements i.e trottle response ,more top end power etc? These dont actually cost much more than an oe one from the stealers! I was thinking of getting a (Sytec) pump, anyone heard about of or fitted one of these?
  19. I dont suppose youve got the old bolts? I wonder why they changed them to alloy maybe they kept cracking,or melting away!! lol  The rocker cover on now seems to have studs and nuts?
  20. Im going to be fitting a plastic rocker cover to my rado when I carry out the mods listed in sig. I was just wondering if I would need anything else apart from a different gasket? Im fitting one of these as it reduces heat and deadens valve train noise slightly! Anyone fitted one?

  22. Is this with the 24v engine ?
  23. Has anyone got any other VR6 times ?
  24. Ok guys cheers for your help! gradeAfailure have you got your setup on standard height or are you using lowering caps, or maybe even taken your rears down a knotch or two? Will I get any arch rub? How would you say your car drives like with 17s as opposed to 15s on the same setup, because it can be quite harsh at times over bumps with the standard speedies?
