  1. Fighting talk there David - I know your 16V is fast - but really !!!!  Think we all need a day at Santa Pod - RWYB, or perhaps the Autometrix Day at Coombe that is coming up. Maybe i do need that Supercharger that Vince was mentioning !!!! Plus Strut Braces and Quaffe Diff !! Oh and bigger brakes - might be an idea !! Not that i am competitive or anything  Actually, Dom said he was struggling to keep up with Dave the other day. And I've still got 127mph on my Satnav :D Had a fair bit more to go, but ran out of road, and the slightly hexagonal tyres put me off a bit. :)
  2. If you get stuck, call me, I've got plenty of corrados to reference against....
  3. Does 0-60 really matter though? Isn't it just a willy waving contest? I have more fun throwing the car around than I do drag racing mobility scooters....
  4. This is a family forum, Rob :nono:  Might be the way to win Kev back though....
  5. You have a tool that screws into the plug hole, and turn the engine over, the guage then shows you the pressure in the cylinder.

I don't think there is an ECU reset for the 16v... There is one for the VR, but that's a far more complex ECU. What's the issue??

Lift the gear lever surround and you'll see the connectors. You probably need the 2x2 connector, but don't expect to find any engine fault codes, just ABS ones on the 16v.
  8. Well, I *think* the shoulder on the head end of the bolt fits against the bush, so that the bushes are both held against the outside of the brackets. Or something like that. Not 100% sure...
  9. Just looked it up in the Bentley, looks like they have to go the awkward way...
  10. Hello. How critical is the direction the bolts are inserted through the rear axle pivots? The correct way involves me moving a couple of brackets out the way which is a pest, but judging by the shoulder on the bolt I guess there is a reason for it poking through that way.
  11. This does sound stunning. :) Was listening to you driving down the hill today. Wanted to touch myself a little bit.
  12. The bias valve continued to be awkward today until it was cut into about 6 pieces, when it gave up. Wish I'd just bought a new bracket and launched the old one with the bias valve. Got the rear beam off, caliper carriers cleaned and painted. Axle brackets are cleaned and painted and the passenger side one needs refitting cleaned the holes for the ABS sensor wires in the floor and threw paint over them as there was rust forming. Attached calipers to brake lines on new rear beam, just need the carriers to finish drying and I can fit them properly. Removed the little brake line from bias valve to rear axle, cleaned and painted it, also cleaned and prepped the one running between from the bias valve to the driver side. Was surprised by how well the brake lines have held up. Also was surprised by the amount of oil left on the underside after an oil leak when I first got the car. Still miles behind though, was hoping to have the car back on 4 wheels tonight. :(
  13. Mine is covered in crusty corrosion at the joint with the water pump that needed removing with a screwdriver, and is pitted along the length. :(

  15. They aren't an MOT item as they can't get grease on the brakes., or cause a safety issue...
  16. I've cut through it about halfway through and removed half of the length of the bolts but it's still stuck fast, despite being hit hard with the encouragement stick. Now trying to cut roughly down the side of the bolts, but the air hacksaw is very slow at cutting through the piston etc.
  17. :( Bloody cars, eh? Brake pipes are funny buggers, I didn't have half the problems I was expecting with mine today. Sometimes I think you're either lucky or you're not. Trying to bleed Dom's brakes on his old car involved me heavy-handidly snapping the nipple straight off. Sounds like you made good progress on the interior and paintwork otherwise... :)

  19. It's a bit of a weird mix of feelings I have for it. I really want to get in and drive it, but dispair at the work I have to do. But then again, there's nice things like the magnex looking at me, and the mound of good/exciting bits I have to wedge on it. Bit depressed about how little I actually managed to do today really. Think I'm going to rope father into helping me tomorrow for a while. Little things like the brake pressure regulator being well and truely stuck on are such a pain in the backside.
  20. Spent a fair bit of today fiddling with the car, removed the passenger side rear caliper carrier and cleaned it up ready to paint, removed the brake lines from the compensator and set about cutting it up so that I can remove it. Only halfway through though. :( Still, should have the old axle off tomorrow and get the brackets cleaned up and painted, possibly even the new axle on. Sorted out my issues with the headlamp loom not working on main beam all the time. The fuse had melted, not as in blown, but the body has melted and deformed, probably caused by some corrosion on one leg causing issues with a bad contact.
  21. Out of interest... Has anyone else noticed corrosion on the outside of their crack pipes? I know mine is a bad example, having been sat for 18 months, but I was a little disappointed by the level of the corrosion I found...
  22. Three mm is easy to wedge your way past. My Trimsport in the VR actually needed a 3mm spacer though.
