SLK32 AMG supercharger INSTALLED PICS!!!!!!!! last page!!!!!
samg60 replied to potatonet's topic in Engine Bay
Be careful about the lysholm you choose as I did a bit of checking on IHI and Lysholm and I think the autorotor was a better option soley because the unit could rev much higher, I think about 15,000 continuous and 18,000 for short bursts, this may not be an issue if you arent running high boost or perhaps if you went for the higher capacity blowers and ran a larger pulley, perhaps something like the 1.2 litre type (anyone who does this on a standard g60 please let me know) autorotor 2087 (standard bahn brenner) is .89 litre. I guess the problem of running the higher capacity blowers is the eat more bhp to drive some of you may find the following excel spreadsheet useful for calculatimg bhp and the type of charger needed. http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/Blower_Calculator.xls states about 290bhp possible from m62 other engine internals allowing -

well my diy braketry would not break it that is the point its just that a few people have made diy braketry and then BBM have claimed this is the reason that some of the chargers fail (and in fairness it could be depending on the supports), my bracketry supports the whole underside of the charger, bolts to the existing g60 braket and supports the tail of the charger.

yeah sorted matey, will catch you soon for fun and frolics if you and sonic are up for it

yeah 3 times in the last three months, the damn thing just seized on me, admitdly I was driving the thing very hard (near red line in second and third all the time) but I was led to believe these things were indestructable, the scroll just got so hot it melted and welded itself to the casing, now I am not using BBM bracketry so people might argue that it was my fault but I know this has happened to people in the states, the problem is when running small pulley sizes these things spin vary fast and the aluminium gets very hot any specs of dust can get in or the metal can expand at different rates and the whole thing can sieze, it then takes lots of patience and some dremmeling to sort the problem out. I have managed to sort the charger now and hopefully will last me three to six months before I buy a new one from BBM. people who run the silencing kits are even more at risk as it puts a heavy weight on the side of the charger and can distort the casing. which is why I have special bracketry to support the full underside of the charger and the end where the silencing kit fits. I have also read other articles from other companies who produce twin screws where they have falied becuse of the heat generated. (dont get me wrong I love these chargers and would never go back to a glader, but be aware they aint perfect.

I am running an 18psi pulley 53mm (see my sig for full spec) and see about 16psi on the gauge (I guess the front mount IC eats a few and the big valve head breathes well. The boost is amazing better than any g60 or g40 I have been in, scary boost see 15psi at 3000 rpm and just keeps pulling all the way to the redline (damn I treat these cars badly) I have a spare 15psi pulley if anyone is interested

Hi there, I have had what you could say reasonable experience with these chargers now. They are a fabulous replacement to a g60 and produce fantastic boost. However be warned. 1. they are loud and will draw attention, I have just fitted the silencing kit to my car and it is near stealth now, but remember it is $600 more and will cost another £140 in postage, unless you can purchase one second hand. 2. these chargers, although indestructible, can and will fail especially if you run smaller pulleys (the whole point in getting one I think) or run a silencing kit (see vortex forums) I have rebuilt my charger three times now, a job which is not for the faint hearted as the tolerances between the two blades is 24000th of an inch and setting this gap can be painful. Although they do seem perfectly serviceable when they do fail (lets hope I am still saying this a month from now) 3. Bahn brenner will not warranty these chargers if you run anything above the 12psi pulley that they supply as standard so bear this in mind if you purchase one, My charger has custom bracketry built by my father in law in is much more supportive than the bahn Brenner kit. However when I have needed parts John Betz at Bahn Brenner has been very helpful. and once again the power increase from these chargers is amazing I know that people in the states have been hitting 235 bhp + at the wheels 260 - 280 bhp at the flywheel from these chargers, I know that is possible from the odd g60, but the low down power is fantastic

tis very load, at high revs it sounds awesome, it jsut when you are trying to go about town or through your local village and evereyone looks, and I mean everyone
-
trust me when youve had this kit for more than a month or two, the novelty of having your car sound like an F15 crossed with a fire engine soon wears off, especially when running silly pulley sizes.

the throttle body is before the charger to stop the lysholm sound escaping.

Hi Darren, I have just been told that I need to delete the ISV completley, and it could also be that I rewired the throttle position switch the wron way so will try this tomorrow http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/4919 ... 69a3lq.jpg

Hi Darren the MAP Sensor now reads from a blocked off boost return, ie the boost return is blocked off with a small outlet for the MAP sensor.

Hi Darren here them pics http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/1.jpg http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/2.jpg http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/3.jpg http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/4.jpg http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/5.jpg http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/6.jpg http://www.welshg60.demon.co.uk/chargerstuff/7.jpg could it be an air leak, as I havent put gasket sealer on all the plates yet as it was a test fit, so I guess the charger could be sucking too much air ?, put tried to see if the recirc vale was open and didnt appear to be chucking much air out?

Im on the case, just6 trying to get pics off the camera

Hi There, can anyone help me, I recently purchased a second had silencer kit from someone in the states and have installed it on my car (golf g60 front mount intercooler), I did not recieve the installation instructions, but everything seems very striaght forward. however after fitting the kit, I started the car and the car will not idle correctly, it just bounces off idle between 1,000 rpma nd 2,500 rpm, I have checked all the vacum hoses and everything is good, inlcluding the ecu vacum hose and teh vacum hose which goes to the recirc valve. I am a little lost as to what is wrong here and also wondered if I had missed something important with regards the setup. any help much appreciated

well bought a cooling mist system as the pump is a much heavier duty pump compared to aquamist and they will happily pump methanol, the aquamist systems look much better, but cant say I have had any issues with the cooling mist system.
-
well I am about to install a recirc valve on my g60 as the lysholm silencing kit I have on the way relocates the throttle body to the front of the charger and so I cant use the butterfly valve, I may end up replacing the Recirc valve with a BOV as I have water injection and if I cannot mount the injector far enough away from the recirc valve I will do this to stop any water from getting back to the charger. anyhow will let you know what the throttle response is like once fitted.

I thnk GSF supply good quality oil pumps, however I was told by two very reputable mechanics that the south america oil pumps (especially mexican) had faild on them, so I paid £90 for a genuine vag part.

Hi gibber, well if im running a 53mm pulley on my lysholm what would I need to put on it to make the same psi with that crank pulley, just thinking like you say as 53 can have belt slip problems
-
how are you making 23 psi with a 70mm pulley on a glader?
-
yeah when I first fiited my kit it felt exactly the same, however I raised the boost level to 15psi and put a 30% mix alchohol mix in and this sorted everything out, the water injection is only coming in at full WOT.
-
sounds to me like an igintion problem, plugs leads or distributor

I am currently running my injector about 6 inches before the co pot as this was the only, feasable place, When My silencing kit arrives I will be relocating the injector to just before the throttlebody. although my kit is not from the same company as the recent group buy mine was (http://www.coolingmist.com) it is essentially the same kit and, the main problem I have with it is the angle of the injector, and I will soon be purchasing and angled injector housing, so that I can angle the direction of flow with the air flow
