  1. Spose its better than George Michael.
  2. Look super clean, has it just had a respray? Lowering it would look amazing.
  3. Thanks, didn't think i'd ever be swapping the engine myself, i used to be scared to do anything other than change a wheel  Dads double garage is making a good workshop
  4. Have nearly finished building the engine up now. I managed to ruin an exhaust stud hole so that's held me up a bit, hoping to get that fixed tomorrow and then i'm ready to put engine in the car. Put the mk4 tensioner and a new upper guide in the engine, swapped most ancillaries over, stuck my reinforced sump on, done the starter motor bush in the gearbox which i'm chuffed about, only had to buy simple bits like gaskets and o-rings. Spent most of my money on tools this time around
  5. Great news, well done that man :D
  6. Yeah, i just sprayed it on the foam, you get a few minutes to slide it around and get it in the right position. The only piece i'm having trouble with is the bit on the left side has you look at my last pic, keeps coming unstuck in the bottom right corner as it meets the hump in the bonnet.
  7. Hi Mic, welcome back, i used to be called 3corsameal but changed my name. Has someone been throwing golf balls at the car :!
  8. Managed to change the starter motor bush that sits in the gearbox. Am hoping this will of fixed the dodgy noise i get whenever i start the car, the noise i've put up with since buying the car nearly 7yrs ago.
  9. Bought this about a week or so ago, just to hold one engine while i removed some bits and fitted to another, Don't need it anymore (i bought two) Its a Sealey ES350, Holds 350kgs. Am after £40 Collected, Postcode is CM6 2LX
  10. I fitted mine from the last group buy. Wasn't too hard really. I bought the spray glue it mentions on the instructions, can't remember the name of it. Scotch #80 or something like that. Removing the bonnet would make it easier to do, but i didn't bother. I didn't use the grease proof paper method either. I would practice fitting each piece first, before you spray any glue, then i laid each piece of foam out and sprayed the back, then stuck it to the bonnet and held it there for a while (which is when you get arm ache and start thinking maybe you should've taken the bonnet off  I also had one piece that needed trimming to fit. Crumbly old foam Covered up engine and scrapped foam off Was left with the original layer of glue, which i softened up with white spirit and scraped off with old plastic windscreen scrapers, Takes a while All removed The bit i had to trim All fitted
  11. I've ended up ordering a thing called a Wurth Timesert, meant to be a lot better than helicoils, just expensive. Hopefully i'll only need it once then i can sell it.

    Intro

Welcome, forum seems to be a bit quiet lately. But its got a lot of great info about the place.
  13. I saw some weird circle logo with numbers that i couldn't work out, think its the manufacture date stamp.
  14. am sure i saw a number along the front, bottom edge near the dip stick hole at the sump end.
  15. Just fitting a couple of studs the engine and one of them wouldn't torque up, just spinning in the hole in the head :( Is it possible to fix this with a helicoil? Hopefully i can source one tomorrow or thats me buggered
  16. I bought them all from VW yesterday, but left the part numbers at home, they weren't that much more expensive than those linked in this thread. If you have removed the head you need both the gaskets, each one covers 3 cylinders. I also ordered the triangle shaped ones that join the mainfolds to the downpipes ---------- Post added at 3:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 3:03 PM ----------
