  1. Thats what has made me wonder if its the oil, when up to temp maybe its too thin or not working properly.
  2. Should be getting my oil today, so going to try that tonight. Bought some INA tappets from Lewis on the forum so will try them after that. If still noisy am not sure what to do, its quite hard to ignore.
  3. Nice, will be interested to see how you get on, in terms of costs and reliability. Am starting to wonder if i'm mad keep ploughing money into the corrado and its still never right.
  4. I spose you're right, for the cost of some tappets i may as well just renew all of them. Started taking my old head apart lastnight, not sure what i'm looking for in terms of wears etc, everything looked nice to me, but its the first time i've ever looked inside an engine.
  5. Am thinking i might as well look into my lifters and hope thats sorts out my noise. Got some engine flush and castrol magnatec on the way so will try that first. Has got me thinking my old engine started getting noisy and now i think back the oil i've usually used changed. They discontinued the old stuff and renamed it. (am not confident that is my issue, but am hoping it is) I have some new lifters on the way anyway, but would rather put them in my old engine that i will rebuild. Can you visually or in any way inspect the used lifters to tell they are worn? It crossed my mind i could try using my old ones from old engine to put into current engine. Hope that makes sense
  6. Got mine from gsf, not sure if the price has gone up at all, haven't looked.
  7. Sorry about that, i Pm'd Lewis as it seemed like an old thread when i found it and wasn't sure if Lewis was still selling the bits. 24v sump is baffled inside, it does fit straight on. The Head bolts are not VW parts but a good replacement, i just been thinking i should of bought them as well, was going to get the arp kit but thats over £200. VW bolts are something like £7 each and you need 20no
  8. I have the same, have changed pretty much everythiing, starting to wonder if its part of the dash or a wire now.
  9. Tried to video it, but you can't really hear it like you can while cruising through a town or slowing down through the revs etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifwobBFIcRQ
  10. There is oil on the underside of the cap if thats what you mean, or take it off with engine running? Tappets aren't new, i bought the engine 2nd hand, it does have 263 cams, i wondered if that may affect things? Am sure i didn't notice the noise on the test drive before i fitted engine, although its one of them you notice at certain speeds while driving next to a wall etc
  11. Changed my engine recently and i have a tappy/cluttering noise (will have to get a recording) Its not as bad as some i've heard on youtube. Sound like something to do with the head imo Don't notice it so much at idle, but mainly hear it from 1500rpm to 2500rpm, am sure its still present at around 3000rpm, but harder to hear it over the engine and road noise. I have originally thought tappets/lifters, but the fact its louder at 2000rpm than it is at idle has got me thinking its something else, or could still be the lifters. Just wondering if it could be anything to do with the chain, my old engine had a similar sound appear. The only bits i swapped over was the upper chain tensioner and the tensioner bolt and one plastic guide (both mk4 items) I feel confident enough to change things, but am no expert and still not great at diagnosing things. I may just ask a local garage to see what they think, but tbh i don't have much confidence in non-specialist garages and not sure i fancy driving all the way to stealth.
  12. Just googled it and seems like the same stuff, am sure my rocker cover had that on it. Just don't use loads, i don't even apply it with the nozzle, i squeeze it onto my finger and smear a light layer around.
  13. I just use the blue stuff most garages sell, hylomar blue its sometimes called although see loads of similar things from different companies. Its a non-setting stuff apparently.
  14. Hi Martin, thanks, I found swapping the engine quite easy really, will probably be doing it again (going to have a go at rebuilding my old one) Yeah thought it was you i saw yesterday. I kept seeing you over the last 2yrs but corrado has been off the road for most of that so was in other cars. All photo locations are as you say, i like to park in that corner at clavering, loads of old & bad drivers in that car park, would like to get some with Audley End house in them.
  15. If you can find a pic of another car with the wheels on then i can have a go.
  16. I don't mind, i like keeping spares, seem to get one broken by the tyre fitters most times, i take the caps off now before giving wheels to the fitters. I think it refitting them that people fail at.
  17. I had funny oil temps once, was all over the place and turned out to be the wire to the top of the oil filter housing had perished where it meets the sensor.
  18. I have one £5 posted ok? Not sure what they are worth.
  19. Gave it a polish and wax yesterday, pic is a bit crap though (was a bit lazy after spending nearly 7hrs cleaning) Ordered some new detailing products to try, like Poorboys natural look for the interior and this IronX stuff i keep hearing about. ---------- Post added at 2:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:42 PM ---------- Popped out at lunch and took a better couple of pics
  20. Think it sits amongst the metal rods that operate door lock etc, and fixes to the bottom part of tailgate (internally) Maybe?
  21. Am going to rebuild my old head, just wondering if anyone on here has any parts they wish to sell? Headgasket kit Tappets Any head bits i might need etc Thought i'd check here 1st before buying elsewhere. What have you got?
  22. I might have one spare, will try to remember to look later on.
  23. Have often heard people say to use the VW dealer supplied one and seen quite a few threads where people are having troubles with other versions. But i don't feel my VW one is anything special. I don't know who makes the VW one, but noticed mine says made in England on it. I still think my original one the car came with was better made than any replacement, even a VW replacement. I have heard the same said about the exhausts. I know i went to VW to get exhaust manifod gaskets and they weren't any near the quality of the originals i had just removed.
  24. There is some difference, its not a massive change though. I think if i'd bought the cams myself i'd feel disappointed. Got a loud tappet sort of noise though, which is bugging me, Have bought some engine flush and might try a different oil. Fuel consumption seems the same, but i've only done about 300miles so far. Just keeping an eye on oil and water. Which seem good so far.
  25. Are there any decent guides to look at? Not something i've looked into before, but thinking of stripping my old head and then deciding if i fancy trying to rebuild it. Any special tools i need? Have worked out that i need a valve spring compressor, thats as far as i've got.
