VAGCAT Down - Part Number Required: Sump Plug Washer
Jim Bowen replied to tentonhammer's topic in Wanted
Someone showed me a new/different version of vagcat, will go find it. -
Yeah pull it all tight. I held the cable with pliers and pulled it tight. Worth watching the trumpets while someone pulls the handle as they can catch in the cut outs in slam panel where cable passes through. I think I reversed my passenger side trumpet. But it might of been the wrong way round to begin with. Something else I noticed on mine. Was the tabs that hang down from slam panel and the outer sleeve of cable pushes against. They rust and start to bend when you pull the cable.

The real cost of a genuine VAG VR6 exhaust...
Jim Bowen replied to Joss_Durnan's topic in Engine Bay
I was always told that replacement exhausts are never as good quality as the ones they left the factory with, i always buy an aftermarket -
They are, maybe just left in place to leave a clean surface once they are removed.
-
They are a ****ty design, i renewed all mine, it worked great for about 1 month then got stuck again. All thats holding it in place is the tiny grub screw on the metal trumpet. Its quite easy to reset it all, just need to make sure you do that little screw up really tight, or thread lock it in etc, I'm thinking of putting an extra something on mine to stop it sliding

Even though i'm not selling mine, i always check to make sure its not mine  I put a mates gameboy up for sale once in a local shop window, then went and showed it to him. He had to go in shop and explain why he wanted it taken down

Updated original post to remove sold bits

Could be one of the little trumpet shaped things that sits above radiator/slam panel area, might of broke or slipped into the wrong place
-
Passed its MOT today, quite chuffed with that, had no issues apart from an advisory on a slightly corroded brake pipe..

Corrado Gear Surround, Rocker Cover + Window Module & Loom
Jim Bowen replied to StueyB's topic in Parts for Sale
Will take the spoiler mech if it has a motor. -
What coilovers are they, do they state a range they lower or is it a fixed rate, i.e: -70mm or is that the maximum amount it will lower your car?

I used some stuff called Tardis, but it seemed to be the same as white spirits, i just sprayed it on, let it soak and scrapped glue off with a plastic scrapper. Might take ages though
-
Just wondering if people could think of someway of having them reproduced? I'm guessing it would be pretty hard as they are glass, Would a plastic be good enough or would it melt? If so, could a mod be done with cool running bulbs? Am just thinking aloud really, i have two spare lenses a left and a right which could be used for templates.

Finally finished the corrado, got a few issues
Jim Bowen replied to Jim Bowen's topic in General Car Chat
Put the ABS back to how it was, so should be able to get MOT, just booked it in for Friday. Tried to set the camber up myself, seems to have negative camber on the rear so set the front to match that, as best as i could with a spirit level, an adjustable set square and my galaxy s3. It a bit over 1degree and a bit under 1.5degree  -
I wouldn't pay £100 for it, considering 75% of the picture is actually a blank page  i spose thats "arty"

Thanks, hoping to post everyones bits out today, but it might be tomorrow if i don't make it in time.

Think i'll just ask them to do the alignment, can i ask for a certain thing, like an amount of toe out or toe in?

I remember somewhere along the line people saying to adjust tracking on one side(track rod) only? Does this really apply? I have both track rods as adjustable ones, and just rebuilt everything. Will the local garage think i'm mad if i go in asking for tracking to be setup by adjusting one side only? When i rebuilt everything i measured out the track rods to some factory spec length, but now my tracking looks way out, wheels are toeing out quite a bit.

Thinking of buying an MG TF 160, anyone had one ?
Jim Bowen replied to daleyboy's topic in General Car Chat
I never listen to rumours but since seeing the hassle the guy at work has had. He loves them and has had three in about 5yrs. All had headgasket problems and other cooling issues and I remember something about some weird suspension setup that leaked. Really put me off them and he hates his now. Has sat at home for a year after having headgasket done. Then dumping all the coolant a month later. He has a smart car as backup and it's always there and working. To me. They all both a bit gay. -
Do you want both rack brackets? The rack only needs one.
