  1. bit of an update, booked my car into the garage to get the abs sensors checked over as the light was constantly on. i hadn't noticed that my wipers weren't working till last night so did a search & hay tesco (presto taken over by safeway then sainsbury etc!) something came up about the number 18 relay! rang the garage & told them what to do & a possible expensive job has turned into a tenner repair! my fan blower still isn't working but it's been apart so many times i've probably not put it back together properly! i'm going to have a faff about with it tonight, hopefully i can get it grafting! thanks for all your help chaps, :D
  2. i hate electrical faults!!! i'm totally clueless so it looks like i'll have to call an auto electrican. bet they're expensive?
  3. i've just been to a scrapyard & found a fan blower off an old seat toledo which is a perfect match for a corrado (mk 2 golf are only 4 pin as opposed to 5 pin on the corrado for future reference) got it for a fiver! bargain i thought! anyway, i've now tried a different fan blower a different control panel, i've checked all the fuses & i've checked the copper contacts on both switches i've used & still nowt! still totally dead! is there anything i've missed like a relay or something really simple or is it time to call an auto electrician? this is really doing my head in now so any help would be great!!! cheers
  4. i've plugged it into a spare controller i had so i think that should rule out anything being wrong with the switch itself ( although my spare could be knackered) so that's why i'm thinking about replacing the fan. although the fact that it doesn't work at all is slightly concerning! definitely not working on stage 4 (just been to double check) oh yeah & i've checked the fuse (no 6 from the left according to the hand book & it's fine & dandy!
  5. just after confirmation really, my heater fan is totally dead so i've read through loads of searches & think this is the right thing to do, would you agree or am i wasting my time? i'm wanting to take the course of either replacing the complete fan in the footwell (if i can source a cheap one) or just replace the thermoresistor thingy? i had a quick look on flea-bay & a mk2 golf looks very similar & i was thinking about seat toledos or passats. does anyone know if they are the same? many thanks, chaps & chapesses
  6. i was just thinking mine had been on it's best behaviour for months, not a single problem when the abs light flickered into life! don't know how many times i tried the old ignition on, ignition off, ignition on etc..... i was so confident that this would fix it! it never!! booked into the garage next week, hopefully it'll be nowt serious.
  7. back on the storm topic, if you drove in reverse at 60mph into a 60 mph head wind then stuck your head out the sunroof, would it be a perfect day? obviously keeping the speed at a constant 60mph & also if the wind stayed at a constant 60 mph. (thought i'd better get that in just incase someone called me stupid? alternatively you could just do a j turn to save the sore neck...... that doesn't make sense does it? you would have to drive in the same direction as the wind, wouldn't you? i'm getting all confused.....going for a lie down!
  8. yeah he has a very smart yellow 16v but he's stuck a storm badge on the back. def not a storm though.
  9. just go & have listen to how a vr sounds! that'll make your mind up! you'll get a very good vr for that sort of money (i did) decisions decisions............. not a bad dilemna to be in
  10. i've seen quite a few injection rocco's recently, mostly on ebay. i think the earlier gtx models are all injection, not sure if they are 1.6 or 1.8 though. i'm sure tempest will know. if your after a later model i think the scala i is the only one you can get. i know these are 1.8's & one day i'll have one. although i quite fancy a blue storm? also injection. i'd def go for an injection one though, once bitten 'n' all that! there's a canny site that i used to find really helpful, i think it's msn.com/sciroccoworld or something like that. worth a look as they have cars for sale on there & as its an enthusiasts site you tend to get well looked after cars.
  11. thought i'd mention a few more of the common faults these cars have (coz the one i had had em all!) already mentioned the carb & brakes, leaky window seals ( usually accompanied by swimming pools in the footwells or boot, gearbox problems (synchromesh i believe? ) heater controls sticking (easy repair) fuel tanks & filler necks rot like bastards & clog up the carbs so that's something to watch out for! but all pretty cheap to repair. personally i'd go for an injection model purely because my pierberg went the way of the pear within 3 weeks of ownership & a new weber is about 200 & odd quid now i believe? none of this would put me off coz i luv 'em! still on the look out for a nice white scala injection. someday........
  12. you can tell your a young 'un, steps ripped off kylie! sacrilage!
  13. i loved my 2ltr, still miss it now & i've got a vr! not the quickest off the mark but as scarlett said, catch it right at 4k revs & it was away to fxxk! for some reason i'm finding i'm getting better mpg in the vr but then i drove the 2ltr like a 2 stroke motorbike, always in the power (above 4k) i found the parts reasonably cheap apart from the time my slave cylinder went just after xmas & the only garage who could collect it charged me over 3 hundred quid to fix it! :x but apart from that brakes & service parts were cheap & i could do the basic stuff myself so saved a fortune! if for some reason i cant afford the vr anymore (another driving ban?) i would def go back to a 2ltr, preferably my old ice gay one!
  14. speaking of economy, since the weather's got warmer i'm averaging an extra 20 miles for my 30 quid & i'm probably driving like a bigger twxt as well! v v strange!
  15. i have to say this is probably my biggest pet hate!! i'm quite lucky at work coz there's a parking space right in the corner of the car park that no one uses coz it's the furthest away from the front door & it has a disabled space next to it that no one can use! and as it's a next to a disabled space there's loads of space between 'em! as long as i'm on time i'm gauranteed it but there's one tw*t in a crappy pug 206 who parks there if i'm late & i'm sure he only does it to pxxs me off! maybe i'm getting a little paranoid there?
  16. been looking at getting the bonnet & the wings sprayed on my car coz they have quite a few stone chips & i want the front end to be as good as the rest of the car. i know myself that i'd be wary of buying a car that's had the front end resprayed but i was thinking if i documented the painting with before & after pictures then that would go some way to reassure the next buyer. not that i'm thinking of selling mind!!! i've heard some people saying it's sometimes best to keep the original paint work, stonechips'n'all but i think it would look much better with the front end painted. tbh the stonechips are probably not that bad but it's starting to annoy me coz they keep catching my eye when the sun shines! would it put any of you lot off buying a corrado that's had the front end painted?
  17. it not like you can drive one car while the other one's getting fixed. a double whammy! death by insertion of hot pointy things is too good for scum like that! hope you get sorted soon.
  18. don't think anyone's mentioned wayne rainey? that guy was cool as a fizzbomb! used to love to watch him & kevin schwantz go at it! such a tragic shame what happened to him!
  19. poor ickle 125 strokers, getting a bit of a bashing here! i had a full power tzr 125 & it was a hoot! fair do's it wasn't much fun on long journeys but round town & on country roads it was fantastic! my mate couldn't get near me on his cbr600 round the twisties but then i have been riding a lot longer than him. the bike you choose should be down to what you like (sports, tourers, streetfighter) what you can afford coz the insurance can be pretty steep & how & where you intend to ride it. i've got a yzf 750 & it's not an ideal commuter but it's fantastic for everything else! as for bike storage, you can't have too many locks & alarms on 'em so get a ground anchor cemented in! mate of mine had his in the back of his garage with his car parked so it was blocking the bike in. some scumbag's broke into his garage, had a quick go at the car but saw the multilock then decided do drag the bike over the top of his car!! i've always found bennetts as the cheapest insurers & they spealise in bikes. i'd struggle to pick an ideal 1st bike but i love 2 strokes so i'd go for a import tzr 250 (the v twin one) or the reverse cylinder one(just for pose value) but sensibly something like a cbr 400/600 are probably best. honda do tend to build the best bikes (as much as i hate to admit it being a born & bred yamaha fanatic) anyway i've rambled on far too much, better get some work done!
  20. bradford & bingley!! always thought it was named after 2 posh blokes...you know like on the advert, with the bowler hats on! how dense am i? doh!
  21. didn't happen in my c or even a car for that matter but quite amusing none the less! many years ago i'd been working on my yam rd125lc i had changed the jets in the carb in the vain hope it would extract an extra 0.5bhp out the thing! when i put everything back together i managed to put the carb slider in the wrong way which resulted in the bike not kicking over. so in my infinite wisdom i thought i'd bump it not realising the carb slider was in the fully open position! the outcome was the engine fire up, revved up to its 11,000rpm redline so what do i do? totally sh*t mesel, paniced, dump the clutch & took off down the lane desperately trying to cling onto the wheelying bike! unable to steer the thing coz the front wheel was off the ground i then hit the kerb which swung me into a neighbours fence, flipping me over the top & landing on this concrete yard narrowly missing a clothes line pole! my neighbour who was washing dishes at the kitchen window colapsed in a heap, tears rolling down his face, had to crawl out the door to see if i was ok! not before checking on the bike & killing the engine coz his kid was asleep!! i then had to sneak the wrecked bike into the shed & try to walk in the house without looking in agony coz my mam would've killed me again! happy days!!
  22. know what your saying but you get no gaurantees when you buy any car. paid a lot for my vr, had it 5 days & the brakes seized on! nearly 400 quid it cost me! think the clutch is on it's way out & the temp gauge is acting up. i was so close to buying a bora tdi but then thought F**k it! lifes to short. if your interested my ex has a white h reg valver for sale, hardly been used & is totally standard apart from the stereo?
  23. sounds like your being drawn back to the dark side! just get shot & buy a valver! you know you want to!! JUST DO IT!
  24. bought one of these for my old c, brill piece of kit & relatively easy to fit. reckon i could do it next time in 15 mins. (took an hour last time & i've got the mechanical capabilities of a chimp! think i'll get a spare just in case. pm sent soon-ish! gaz
