  1. thanks for that, i kinda guessed at 8 hours. he'll be well pleased when i give him the good news! i can see the pound signs in his eyes already!
  2. just a quickie, how long would it take a decent mechanic to change the clutch & timing chains? the guy who does all the work on my car just wants a ball park figure so he knows how much time to set aside. done a search but cant find any info on actually times! cheers
  3. that's the word i was looking for! had my work head on when i was thinking about beldon! stan 24v the toledo i got my spare set out was an L reg so 93-94ish. it's the toledo that looks like a rounded mark 2 jetta. hope that makes sense!
  4. got the chance of a really cheap valver so the vr maybe getting stored for the winter that's if i can find a nice warm garage for her to be stored in! but then don't know if i could stand having two c's, i swear i've gone grey since i bought my first! so at the mo i'm def not selling the vr, getting new timing chains & clutch next week so she'll be sweet as again. plus got a set of speedlines to go on while i get the momos refurbed (might keep the speedlines on though coz the 17" momos are causing my fillings to fall out!) so at the mo i'm def not selling, quite the opposite & maybe buying another! but then i'll really miss the noise of the vr! decisions? decisions?
  5. bought a white corrado off a lad years ago who got sick of all mates saying 'why you driving a hairdressers car?' lad at works who just doesn't believe it's as fast as i say it is! 'but it's old though' sick of hearing that from him the fxckus driving knob!
  6. i can do it & i'm a numpty! just take your time & you'll be fine. took me about 20 mins & that was me taking my time. from memory there's just 3 beldon cables to undo, i made sure i noted the position of each dial when i took each cable off & set the new control to the same position (if that makes sense) hopefully that way it'll work as it used to. remember which cable went where too coz it's easy to forget which one does what. also there's a couple of multi plug connectors that just pull off & push back on. think i just took the ashtray & cig lighter out then popped of the control surround & you have four screws to undo. bit tricky getting it out the hole but you just kinda put your hand under the ashtray & pull it out on an angle. be careful not to force it coz each corner has a bit of plastic that holds the fixing screws & they tend too snap quite easily! hope this makes sense coz i've done it arse about tit haven't i!
  7. seat toledo's of the same age are exactly the same, usually cheaper than corrado ones.just make sure they are intact, where the clips hold the cables they sometimes snap off.also think passat one fit but you have modify it slightly, there's a thread on here that tells you how to do it.
  8. had exactly the same dilemna just before i bought my 2lt c, couldn't find any corrados in my area so was just about to buy a 2lt 16v mr2. as much as it was a lovely car to drive it just never felt as solid as the c! but since moving onto a vr there really is no comparison! the 6 cylinder lump is just so lazy & you just don't realise how fast your going where as the four cylinder you have to rev them canny hard to get them shifting! obviously a corrado is a hell of a lot more practical day to day & as much as i love mr2's i'd have to say get a vr! plus you won't lose much (if any in depreciation) on the vr! suppose it just depends what you'll be using it for?
  9. bit of a strange one this, just had a new throttle cable put on my car & i swear it feels like its lost power! usually when i put my foot down & it hits 4k revs it's away like stint but it feels hesitant! found myself flooring the acelerator like you do & sitting there urging the car on like it was a 1 ltr corsa! pedal feels heavier too! i thought it might be because i've been riding my bike while i was waiting for the part so i was used to going bike fast but it definitely feels a bit sluggish. do any of you bikers find that your car feels slow after riding your bike? i've never had this happen before so it could all be in my head. plus it's a vr so it's not like it's an 8v (soz to all you 8v owners) the cable was fitted by a garage who does all the work on my car & they are excellent so i've kinda ruled that out. it's all very perplexing, going to give it a proper good hammer tomorrow & see if things improve.
  10. i for one am well pleased jays coming back coz i wasn't on here when he started work on his now 'legendary' c so i missed loads of stuff & it's not the same reading through the thread from start to finish. i bet it was proper exciting waiting for the next instalment ( bit like a harry potter book if your 10) i imagine! soz starting to ramble! i just wonder how much pressure ( if any of course coz he's got naff all to prove to us) jays feeling coz it'll take an amazing effort to top the last one! but then if anyone can jays ya man! good luck with the new 'un, i cant wait & at the same time soz about the porker! regards, gaz
  11. my mate andy green give me a go of his gaffer's car (think he was called dickie noble or something)took it for a spin when we were in the black rock desert in nevada. anyway this car was proper fast!!!! had a stupid name though, it'll come to me later? anyway this thing had a strange speedo so not sure how fast but it made a boom type sound at a certain speed!,not sure how fast i went, shat myself when it made the boom sound! it handled like a pig on roller skates though! think the shockers were on the way out! oh yeah, think it was called thrust scc....! yes the above is all bullsxxt, just wanted to be a big man! :( fastest car owned-my very own vr fastest car drove-a wedge shaped tvr thingy (proper fast & handled fab) once again, i'm very sorry!
  12. is that actually a corrado!!!!!!!!! ffs! at first glance i thought it was a butchered integrale! it's just hideous!
  13. i had a ice grey violet pearl 16 valver, totally standard & i thought it was the mutts nutz!!! def go for a 16 valver, get them revving above 4k & they do go rather well. just do it! you know you want you!
  14. yeah i'd second that, really nice motor! i know of a nice white 1.8 16v which is only minutes from sciroccotunes? not sure of the price at the mo but it'll probably be a similar price to the red one. there you go, got a choice of two already! shame they're red & white! not the best colours in my part of the world (in the football sense of course!)
  15. just been saying similar things on a different thread, hava read of the 'possible inane chat ' thread. he's in a similar position to you. personally if i really wanted a corrado i'd think fxxk it! & go for it, if you expect things to go wrong then your forewarned but when it's running sweet these car are an absolute joy to own & drive. if it does keep breaking down just get shot, there's loads of us waiting in the wings with our credit cards at the ready!
  16. i had a 2ltr for a year & a half & the only thing i had to replace/fix were your main serviceable things, brakes, plugs, filters etc. the slave cylinder went between xmas & new year which cost me a fortune coz it had to get towed away to the most expensive garage that was open & he pulled my eyes out! but apart from that it was relatively stress free motoring. for every good 'un i'm sure there's a bad 'un, you just have to read some of the stories on here. at the end of the day it's going to be at least 10 year old so things will go wrong. best bet is to buy just under what you can afford & keep a bit aside for anything that does go wrong! i never found the parts particularly expensive & you can do loads of jobs yourself with the help of this very forum. the one good thing about these cars is they all share the same common faults so most people on here have had the same problem. if you cant find the problem on a search then people are only too willing to help you! just buy one, i promise you won't regret it!!! ( promise not legally binding)
  17. mine did this two weeks ago, are you windscreen wipers working & your fan? mine turned out to be a faulty relay (no.18 on a vr) but as therapor said there's loads of threads about it. could just be a faulty sensor, best bet is take it to a garage & get it plugged in!!!!!!
  18. personally i wanted one with full service history but i if i couldn't of found one with service history & it had a load of reciepts for parts & stuff then i'd still be tempted to buy it. as you've found out most of these cars are owned by corrado nutters so they tend to be well looked after. you tell a lot about the car by the owner, i've bought cars of people who have had 5 & 6 corrados so i know they love 'em! but your best bet is printing of a copy of the buyers guide & take it with you when you go to look at one. if your like me you'll be too excited about getting one & forget to check loads of stuff!!!
  19. when i bought it in january this year it had 98k on it, showing 102K now. i'll take some pics & post them up, be a camera phone so don't know what the quality will be like!
  20. yeah that's mine, still got the momo wheels on. in desperate need of a refurb though! it's still in mint condition apart from a few stone chips on the front. the guy i bought it had it for years & he really looked after it, regularly serviced & he was quite handy himself so he done a lot of work on it himself. did you sell it to a guy in sunderland called will?
  21. alreet mate, what part of newcastle you from? i'm just over the water in gateshead, not far from sciroccotune actually. i've got a vr if you fancy a test drive,it'll give you an idea of the difference between the two. def not for sale though! if your interested i know of a very tidy white valver for sale, just been put through it mot so should be pretty sound. bodywork's excellent from what i can remember & it's been owned by a lady for the last 5ish years. it hardly gets used now so it needs to go to a new home.

    Driving me nutz!

mine drones a bit on speed one but goes away on 2-3 & 4. i've had loads of problems with my heater so i've changed & swapped most things. put a new fan motor in & it stopped the droning. it's just behind the passenger footwell shelf, you have to take the shelf out to get to it. then there's a locating tab at the back that you bend out & the fan should drop out when you twist it anti-clockwise. older seat toledo motors fit & are usually cheaper (got mine for a fiver, they're in the same place as a corrados) also mk2 golfs do but you have to change something on them. (golfs only have 4 pin connectors, c's & the seat ones are five) hope this helps, the motor's in the top left corner & it's only a 10-15 minute job.
  23. that's well smart, never really liked red c's but i love 'em now!
  24. a while back got followed by a couple of dodgy looking lads in a ropey white van. they started flashing me for no apparent reason so i put my toe down & left them for dead! they eventually caught up with me at the next set of lights & continued flashing me. at first i thought they might try to nick my car but then i thought maybe something's fell/hanging off & they are trying to tell me something? so i slowed right down & got stuck at a set of lights, the driver jumps out runs to my window & said " is it a VR6?" when i said yeah, he said "firkin mint car mate, can we take some pics of your engine?" at this point i was still wary but i made them follow me to work, just in case! anyway turns out they are doing a mk2/vr6 conversion & were a bit lost with where everything went! so after spending nearly 20 mins taking pics & videos of my car (nor sure why they took pics of the whole car) they drove off very happy teddys!
  25. huzzarr!!!!!!!!!!! i managed to fix the fan, it was the contacts on the switch itself. had to sort of twist it so that it made contact with the front & back of the switch. just when i thought it was all fixed my leccy windows wouldn't work & the imobiliser packed up! a search on the forum & it mentioned a fuse for the leccy windows just above the relays. took it out, bit of a rub with some sandpaper, put it back in & all is well! everything is back to normal & works as it should! hope this thread helps others like the forum search has helped me! don't know what i would've done without it! actually i probably would've sold the car!!!!!!!!!!! wonder what goes wrong next???
