i need to srot my seat loom for the drivers side too. Passenger works good, but mine dont, right pain in the arse - literally in winter, lol

yeah, dont worry, im havin mine done properly. Just got a price for having 2 heads skimmed, new valve guides inserted, and re seat all valves in both, and a re bore on 2 blocks, totalled 700.00? Does this sound ok? Where is the best place to get the shells etc from? VAG dealer, or other?

hi there, am currently havin my engine and another one of my spare vr engines rebuilt. Was wondering if anyone had a price list for the parts needed to do a full bottom end and head rebuild on my VR engines. All parts are needed from shells, bearings, all throungh to chains, tensioners, and head bolts etc including all gaskets etc. Any info would be awesome, and if anyone knows the best place to get bits from, let me know, Cheers

mine do this too, think its just a raddo thing, mine dont do up propely all the time either, they rattle a little when wound up, but if push the button up a few tmes, the squeek up a bit higher, and stop rattling, it does this both sides? how can i fix this?

is the 2.8 bottom end same as 2.9 other than piston size?

im thinkin of doing the offset grind thing when i rebuild my 2.9 lump into a 3.1 with 83mm pistons. Can you tell me how much i need to offset grind them, or will the machine shop need the engine etc to work all this out? how do i go about doing this? Wanna rebuild it into a torque monster. Was thinkin of puttin low c/r pistons on and chargin her up, but dont think i can be bothered, what sort of power would a 3.1 with normal c/r give over a standard 2.9? not alot i shouldnt think, just a little more torque?

well thats what i was thinking, use my 82mm pistons and re bore the block, then just throw them in. new shells, and poke the bottom end on my head etc, and stick her back in the car! Then, when i get the chance,im still going to bore my block out to a 3.1 and get some huge ass 93mm pistons and rings etc, then when all thats done, swap the 3.1 bottom end into my car, and sell the 2.9 block etc to my mate with his mk3 golf vr, which is still only a 2.8! I can do all the rebuild work myself, along with my aforementioned mates help, and i know of a machine shop willing to do the rebore for about 20 quid a bore. Im not really sure what happened to the engine in the 1st place, started smelling a bit of oil, then i noticed blue/black smoke out ouf exhaust and smothering everyone else behind me when it revved under load. then it started smelling badly of oil inside when i revved it and used to give me a headache etc. And now it just stinks badly of iol in the car, out of the car and whatever on tickover constantly, and on every other rev it just gets worse! I've had a full head rebuild, thinkin maybe it was stem seals, the seals were shot to bits, but it hasnt cured the problem, its still getiing worse, so im thinking its either ovalling of the bores, or the rings r shot to bits! -

stan24v, yeah, im still interested, but this block is mine for free dude! will wait to see what state my block is in before i let u know stan, this bottom end is just to get me drivin again, as the car is slow as buggery now, has no revs, doesnt pull, and blows oil alot! -
reason 4 asking is coz my 2.9 bottom end is knackered and im thinkin of runnin a 2,8 bottom end until i rebuild mine, will this be ok? could even bore the 2.8 out and use my pistions in it if they r that simillar?

couldnt agree more robbo, i've been for a blat in robs car with him, and my god is it quick, and it makes all the right sounds too. Spoke to a few people at inters and got some ideas for the lump, so might be going ahead soon, as soon as i can get my other car mot'd, the raddo is being started!!!

yeah, thats what im thinking of doing, it may not do much on a vr, but if its better balanced,as you say, it'll defo help?

chris, i cant use the cc calc as i dont have the program i need to run it, what prog is it, i'll download it now? prob wont bothrer with the offset thing then, as it sounds well above my head, lol, just get the crank knife edged and balanced,a nd get the flywheel balanced and lightened?

right o, this defo sounds like the best way to go then? so is it best to stay maybe a 3.0L and go for slightly lower c/r, or go with the pistons vince has got, which are slightly lower c/r 3.1 jobbies? i suppose if im going to do it, id rather go 3.1 jobs, what sort of difference will offsetting the crank do? and what companies can do this work? as if im going to do it, i may aswel do it all in one hit eh? what other things do i need to think about?

right o, i thinkim understanding this, lol. So it might be better to run a slightly lower c/r than to run a ver low one, as it will save the charger working its arse off?

sounds ok, i havent got the cash at the minute, but should have within a few weeks, if thats still ok? I just need to find out exactly what pistons im going to use, so you can get it bored to the right size? did you say vince had some low c/r forged 3.1 jobbies in for around 500.00, is that all in with all the other bits too? or would you reccomend going for eip?
