  1. ive heard the b and m ones are pretty good, they are about 140.00 if i remember correctly, try to get one from inters next weekend if ya going?
  2. yeah, youre probably right, so what else can be done to it whilst its out then, i was going the get the crank knife edged anyway, along with a lightened fly wheel, but what other internal mods can be done to achieve more power and torque?
  3. what other engine mods has H8RRA got then to give his 331 bhp? Do i actually need to offset grind the crank to run the larger pistons, or is it just a good idea to do so?

  6. so does anyone know how much a block is worth? if you say you can get it re bored for me for 100squiddies? Will the standard crank run the 3.1 then, obv in standard form im guessing it wont quite push 3.1, am i right, is that why it needs a regrind, to lengthen the stroke?

  9. right o stan24v, so how much for the lot then? if im gonna do it, im gonna do it properly, so 3.1 is the way i think! dont wanna lower the cr too much, just enough so i can run more boost woth less probs when i get a charger! How much for your block and crank stan?
  10. Any news yet Stan24V? Think i'll prob go with the eip jobs maybe, if i can get them anywhere under 600.00 that'll do me? My little mk3 golf 1.4 blew up today aswel, not havin a lot of luck recently, ha ha, never mind, new lump for that going in on sunday, its only a hack after all!

  12. so direct from eip it'll cost me 899 dollars then? thats not too bad, their kit is everything you need isnt it? If im going to do it, id defo go with the 3.1 conversion, so whatever size bore that would be (83mm??) not too sure?
  13. im not really too bothered what pistons i run, as long as they are well up to the job! Was already thinking of going down the lower compression pistons ready for when i feel the urge to buy a snail!!!! i take it vince is the ol chap from stealth? might be worth givin him a call when ive got the cash to get him to sort me out with all the necessary bits! how much can you get a charger for nowadays then?
  14. well, like chrisVR6nos says, its going to cost the same to bore out to a standard re bore or to a 3.1 so i may aswel go as big as is safe to do so! Where did you get your prices from chrisVR6nos? Are they forged pistons and what make are they? I should have my mk1 polo on the road soon, so ill use that and take the raddo off the road! How much would you want for your 2.9 block STAN24V as i'd prob have that off ya with it rebored to the required size, that way, like you said, the car can be off the road for the least time possible, and i've got a mate with a 2.8 who wants a 3.1 too, so he';d probably buy my block to re bore out the same?   15. yeah, but i'll be doing the rebuild on my own with the help of a few mates, just need the machining done by someone, all the other rebuild work and port and polishing etc i can do myself? so i only need rough prices on machine (re boring) work, and the pistons etc, along woith any onther bits i might aswel replace while im at it!
  16. hi, im thinkin of doing the above to my vr, as its using oil quite alot, just had the head all rebuilt thinking it was maybe stem seals but the problem is still there! Now thinking its probably the 'ovalling' of the cylinders thats causing the problem. :cry: Any ideas? If i go for the rebore, think ill go for the 3.1 jobby, does anyone have any prices on what this might cost? And what companies in the uk import eip tuning bits, as their piston kits seem quite good!   18. Just got the tope end rebuilt on my vr, to try and stop the smoke from following me down the road, but its not stopped it, now guessing it;l be rings gone! I've heard about the no's 1 and 6 ovalling, so how much would it cost to rebore the block and fit new pistons, bearing in mind that me and a few mates can do all the stripping and rebuilding work ourselves, only bit we can do obv is the machine work. How much roughly would i be looking at for a rebore, and how much are the parts likely to come to? cheers
  19. who is PSI? what sized pistons would i have to go to to re bore my 2.9 raddo? I also love the 12v, and dont really fancy a conversion to 24v, and i can do all the rebuild work myself, except the cnc bits etc. how much could i be looking at for parts and cnc work alone?

    think i've got the same problem, need mine doing too, but mine is already a 2.9 C engine, what is best to do, get a 2.8 block and re bore to 2.9, or re bore my existing lump to a overbore or 3.1 etc? What approximate costs could i incurr if i do all the rebuild work myself,and just get the CNC work done professionally? How much are new overbore or 3.1 pistons/rings?
  21. im also thinking iof doing an overbore on mine, does anyone know the approximate cost of doing this? wouldnt mind doing it all properly, and i know how to rebuild the block, so just need the work doing to the block, and new pistons and rings etc? any rough prices, and where to go?
  22. does anyone know the times etc that the wolfsburg museum and tours are open? we r thinking of popping in when we go to austria next month, just wondered if anyone knew anything, cheers
