Biggerbigben - Golf sold.. another new project!

Does sound great... :) -
Yeh it'll only be about 2-3 percent fast, your tyre will have a smaller circumference and so will rotate faster and put the speedo out. I'm no expert on wheels and adapters but I doubt you wont be able to fit those on... EDIT: Wheel offset calculator says 59mm over standard.
-
Hmm.. what's the thinest adapters available? I'd go for them!
-
Ideally you should be fitting a 205/45 to that wheel. Your speedo will read to fast with a 40 profile. 25mm spacer will push your wheel out about 6cm, i'm sure you'll have issues with that! I wouldn't bother with any spacer adapter on that wheel if you can help it.

Much better, a must IMO. Now change your sig! :)

Goldie197, have a go at it yourself mate. I wrote that guide and it's not that hard as long as you take your time with it. Satisfying once you've done it as well.
-
So is the idea to hook it up to your alarm so it flashes in time with it? Black ones would look cool, maybe a bit too knight rider though.
-
Jim, Never seen many pics of your old G, just found this though... ...more than a slight resemblence! :)
-
Thanks mate. Modern improvement is exactly what i'm going for with the wheels, didn't want anything to fussy or blingy. They look like the solitudes only newer. I do think 16 is the best compromise, keeps the car looking standard but better. Apart from a few bits of paintwork that need touching up I have no more exterior modifications planned... Exterior:

I managed to snap the rod on my passenger side one so I might just bung them both up. Makes door card removal that little bit easier as well :) I don't lock mine whilst i'm in. NEver know when you might need a speedy exit!
-
M15 VW, do you just use rubber grommets?
-
I know, it's a tough one that. I'd probably regret selling them but buying the comp's has left me a bit short.. :? Also I can justify the new wheels to the missus a bit more if I sell the old ones, having said that she's been in and out of the garage and still not noticed the speedo's piled up!
-
Yeh it is, they guys at RK couldn't believe it either. Well chuffed. And I knew i'd win you over just wait till you see them, even better in the flesh :)
-
Easier if I do it like this... Before... After... EDIT: Also notice how my wonky gate is angling more towards the car now in admiration. :)
-
Yes, yes I do as it happens. Just measured up and she's 59.7cm at the front and 61.5 at the back which is slightly nose down which I like.
-
Ok just been out and meausred, lower than I thought. Riding on Koni TA's with H&R springs, JOM lowering caps on the front and rear circlip set to lowest level on nearside and one up from lowest offside. Front: 59.7cm Rear 61.5cm Springs have been fitted 8 months, shame I didn't do a measurement when they first went on...

quicky1980, get some pics, sounds interesting!
-
We've had a few threads of this nature already recently which is probably why your not getting many bites. ;) :) Also i'd say this is general car chat rather than off topic?
-
'snotrag'...
-
Peakz, I think I might actually. My bank balance isn't to healthy at the mo and I really can't see myself wanting to take the Comps off. I'll have a think about it and maybe get some pics up tomorrow. Did the speedos for a year, can always buy another set at a later date. Just had a great drive home, loving it. :D

You can usually only get NCB protection after a certain age or years of NC.
-
Cheers Chris :) Oh and another thing... the boys worked out a cheats way of ajusting the circlip that holds the spring platform without even taking the wheel off! Jack the car up and let the wheels hang then lever the spring platform up from both sides using the tyre to lever off. Then simply get someone else to unclip the clip and move it down (a pair of long nosed pliers do the trick). You can do both sides in 10 minutes as long as the clip isn't a bugger to shift. Only reason I say is that i've seen a couple of threads that suggest removing the entrie strut etc.
-
Just been down to RK engineering for the day. The boys have done me proud and fitted lowering spring caps to the front and dropped the rear strut a few notches, looks soooo much better now. The rear in particular is heaps better - The nearside strut has the circlip on the bottom notch and the offside is the one up from bottom, this seams to level up the rear nicely whilst keeping it ever so slightly higher than the front. This is all great as it means i'm no longer tempted to splash out on coilovers, i'm perfectly happy with the ride height now. Coilovers Schmoilovers... :) Another thumbs up to RKE :thumbleft:

Yeh I know they're not your thang really! Still keeping the speedlines for some 15 action when the moment suits me. It really isn't worht selling speedlines IMO, always nice to have a spare and i'd only get £100 anyway... So come on then Nick, what are the lowering caps like? I intend to have the rears down a few clips, kev reckons offside should be middle notch and nearside the notch down from middle to level it off. Not sure about centre caps, I kinda like it the way they are I think. Centre caps could really change the way the wheel looks alltogether. The exposed bolts look nice and racingy!
