finished polishing my gearbox :D Pics in the gallery shortly.

this is a common mistake its 1001 ps, so not so many bhp But like all VW's it was dynoed at 40 degrees C so on a cool day it will be higher. I'll be waiting for Clarkson to say something about the Tyre pressure monitoring system on it, this will be my moment of Glory as I build them.... 1001ps is the minimum power!! Some examples put out 1100bhp, the engineers had to ensure with production tolerences on a £850K car that the customers get the full 1001ps they were promised. 0-186 in 16.8sec and electronically limited to 253.4mph!! Amazing stuff.

as above, really looking forward to this.

not worth the hassle.

Brand new block and pistons for a VR, how much?
A20 LEE replied to Stan 24v's topic in General Car Chat
See your point Kev, it is a much cheaper option but my goal is a little different. I get the most enjoyment out of stripping bits down and rebuilding them into little pieces of art i guess. The concept of swapping an engine isn't as appealing as building one and seeing how much better is it. Dutch, i'm in the same position as you. Realistically i don't need a new block as mine should be fine but like the idea of building the engine with a new block, uprated rods, pistons bit at a time without worrying about having the car of the road. -

It sold on ebay for £490, but either the buyer backed out or someone was pushing the price up. I was going to buy it myself but only interested in the block not the pistons. -
no, hopefully i should have the guages and metalwork done next week. This is a mod for the G60 owners to copy if i can make it work. I'm mounting the air/fuel LEDS in the instrument cluster so they'll be in the field of view. Oil Pressure anyone??
-
Ordering my dials tomorrow and need a bit of help with this question. There 2 different Oil Pressure Guages available:- 0-5 bar & 0-10 bar Which should i order as i've know idea what the oil pressure is on a VR6?? TIA
-
Here you go, pic attached. As far as i know VW Motorsport made just 2 16V G60's one was a syncro and one was FWD. One looked standard and one had the bodykit shown fitted.

please post more pics of your enginebay!!

Loving it!! So got to get a pic of mine from that angle.

Found a couple of deep marks (inflicted) on the gearbox case but luckily I don't think you see them once the box is fitted, i'll blame Dinkus for them as I believe it his old gearbox i'm rebuilding which I bought off Mike. Also a few swirl marks but I can probably sand them out. Just looking forward to getting it to the chromers, hopefully before christmas. Dreading the bill for it though!!

yep, deffo
-
doesn't that make the N/S/F light though, the engine is set off to the O/S/F with the driver. Battery in its current position will help to balance thing out a little?
-
Don't worry, i'm planning on doing all those parts too as you guessed. Getting there with the gearbox now, should be fully polished by the end of this weekend. Got to start on the bellhousing then, not even looked at it yet. Hope its alot easier!! Got to say its a great help have you and toffeerado posting your gearbox pics on here, its really spurring me on with this horrible job. Never again :!: Well kind of, got the subframe to do yet :(
-
think its in the place is it for balance.
-
i'd heard £250, not sure if thats the fitted price though

What's my US-spec Rado worth, another thread ;-)

Sorry if i'm pushing this OT, but I'll disagree with that. My mate has just bought a LHD 964 Turbo for £16k, RHD it would have cost £24K. -
Pictures wednesday night i hope
-
kettle, pot, black matey!!
-
What can i say but wow!! Awesome job, total respect from me for that work of art. Just noticed your starter motor, is it polished or chromed?
-
In places yes, but not on the flat sections as i don't want to spend time sanding out low areas cause by enthusiastic dremeling  Yours is looking good to me tho.
