  1. if everything works, the chains are done and the only bad thing you can say about it is that it looks a bit scruffy then I'd say its still worth £3k if you're patient. its a desirable colour after all - whack loads of polish on it and I'm sure it will go. theres someone i went out with on a viewing the other day looking for a solid blackberry one with that kind of money to spend..
  2. cheers, yup keen to try out various different places!
  3. I know these threads come up every now and again but just to get a bit of discussion/interest going again I thought I'd say that I'm thinking of doing one or two fairly soon. I've done the Ring, Snetterton and Castle Combe before but not enough to say I've gained any significant proficiency. So, if anyone else was thinking the same and is interested in joining up at any then just say so here! The three organisers I've been looking at are as follows (combination of relatively affordable airfields/tracks): The first one i might do is this thursday morning at Brands Hatch - its a novice one so not too much pressure! http://www.clubmsv.com/car-home/calendar.aspx The next might be Woodbridge on April 24th with these guys. http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackday/ And another good value company (also recommended by Corozin) with lots of airfield options. https://orders.motorsport-events.com/EventList.aspx Any one else have any plans? Cheers John
  4. 99.99999% certain it doesnt :) where u getting it from?
  5. updates?! slightly brief visit last time!
  6. I'm sure the monos would go easily and that takes a whack out of it - there's always wheels around to swap with people if you get bored - i seem to have 3 sets at the moment..
  7. I dont know if it helps Jim but I think for all of us who effectively have these reasonable to high performance cars, on this budget, of the age these are, that have been modified, then everything about them becomes a consumable. I dont know where you're at, but say the car owes you £10k after you fix the engine, its still a 300+bhp car on reasonably modern management, with good suspension, bushes and a (proper) engine rebuild behind it. Thats still pretty good value compared with other cars out there. You could go and buy a Focus Asbo for similar money lets say, but even though that will be newer, you wont want to be driving an Asbo and anything else you buy for similar money wont have had everything on it replaced like yours will have. I fully get that now having a house means money disappears frequently but i dont think that you're throwing good money after bad if you fix it - i think your only gripe really is with the previous owner or people that did the work. Sometimes we all have sh!t happen - imagine if it had been you instead of me at that corner 18 months ago, this rebuild will be cheaper than that.. ;)
  8. Everyone bought them as a single kit in a one-off group buy - i think it was coordinated through G-Werks who imported it directly from the US. This is the supplier as far as i know - http://www.eurospecsport.com/products/b ... brakes.htm - the reference for the kit is EBK 698 280 G/J3 RE5. I dont see any reason why you couldn't buy it yourself directly from them but the exchange rate is worse now.
  9. yep, it was bypassed, and had been since before the guy bought it i think too! and there was another join in the water hose futher down too, something strange had gone on in the past i think!
  10. ah, yep, good point :) thats a good swap too!!
  11. hi there, been out so didnt get your pm but if you struggle tomorrow then let me know, i'll pm you my number.
  12. absolutely :salute: if there was only one thing i would ever have said about your engine bay it would have been that the blue samcos were a little bright for it - i think black keeps it looking nicely unmodified (even yours!) to the untrained eye ;)
  13. werent you tempted to get it running right first rob? although i understand the temptation to buy stuff!
  14. if you mean surface driled like the ebc discs then thats cool but dont go looking for fully drilled - grooves are all you need.
  15. look very nice andy, glad you've still got the golf, still have hopes of taking it off your hands one day!
  16. well, unless he's taking a looong detour, i think we should expect to hear first impressions any time now :)
  17. yes, everything kev mentions could be done for about 1200ish quid, if you want a new exhaust add another 400 or so, and then you've got 400 which would do quite a few other bits and pieces that you'd want before getting to the obvious clutch and chains job.
  18. coded looks good :) its a nice colour! (and i coded a badgeless grill and hated it!)
  19. I've done a 1200 mile trip to the ring including laps, and then a 2000 mile trip to scotland and back via laps at castle combe and it didn't skip a beat! As long as you're not driving to a wedding or anything super-important then if anything goes wrong that's just part of the adventure!

25s would be a bit better but if you're on standard suspension then it wont matter - they should look well placed in the arches but if you lowered the car then they would rub on the arch sooner than if you had slightly narrower adaptors. no issue for now though and 205 tyres will mean its not too bad if you do.
