  1. no offence to swiftkid but that doesn't look good to me at all, you at least want the curve of the arch to follow the curve of the wheel whereas the arch is cutting off the top of the wheel in that pic. and i scrape my catguard on speedbumps with only a 40mm drop let alone the 80+mm that that looks to be. if you want a good looking KW1 set up on 15s then look at Goldies members gallery. his storm was on solitudes but they're the same size and it looked perfect to me - probably about 55-60mm drop.
  2. never heard of longer wings before, where are they showing as longer? possibly to do with unmatched slam panel or bumper (early with late or vv)?
  3. Did you go for 205 or 215 - if 205 the stretch is much less than i thought!
  4. bigpants baby normally puts everything together out of cars he is breaking for around £275 IIRC - maybe worth a PM
  5. Ya would be a club meet with a difference like the sound of that a lot!

    Knocking noise.

damn, was just going to suggest golf balls rattling around, apparently thats what was causing a strange knocking in Tom's car :D
  7. the only shows i *hope* to do this year are Gti international and leed Vw Festival,if ya around give us a shout :) ;)
  8. they are clearly required business expenses Dave!
  9. its kind of pointless to post all these mpg shots - everyone can manipulate their car into showing a high figure by driving at unrealistically slow motorway speeds (jon!) - i got 36ish out of my VR doing that once, but its not possible over anything less than 50 very straight miles... if everyone is being honest the reality is that in normal running you'll get 24-28 mpg and a bit more on decent motorway runs. i spent 4 hours driving back and forward across london yesterday and got 17mpg just to add a bit of balance to everything. it doesnt mean I wouldnt have a VR every day of the week, its just that if i had the money I would buy an 8V as well as judith suggests
  10. Isn't it the ultimate insult to put the engine of the fiercest rival into one of most iconic cars from the opposing manufacturer??
  11. Why is he intending to put in lots of work to get the car into top condition again?? Why are you asking why?!
  12. it would never be more than £900 unless you were getting ripped off, see my link above!
  13. £3k plus or minus £500 depending on what interior and what mechanical upkeep has been completeted in the last few years.
  14. example prices at The Phirm on this page, so parts/labour split is slightly different to my estimate, but you can see it starts at around £700 plus vat
  15. they are chains on a VR6 and as the gearbox has to come off to change them then you would be wasting an opportunity not to replace the clutch at the same time. doing both including parts and labour starts at around £750 depending where you go (ie around £350 for genuine parts and £400 for 7-8 hours labour).

    Correct ET

i'm surprised but yes, if you think its needed then maybe go for a 3 or 5mm spacer all round. I bought a pair of 5mm ones on ebay the other day for £15 if that helps. here's a link to some more http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0162449947
  17. it would have been rude not to :)
  18. i think leon is about to scrap an aqua blue shell if you want one to have as a last resort to swap everything to...
  19. ok, maybe my old ones were just so worn that they had clear air gaps in them!
  20. that picture looks right to me. as far as I remember there is clear air in the (3?) gaps in the standard VR6 bushes - think of it as a 3 spoke wheel, whereas the ones in your picture do have thicker and thinner moulded areas, but are still solid all the way round - ie. no "spokes". hth
  21. not used it myself, just looked up dremel polishing bits as you asked where to get them from.
  22. heres one: http://www.healystool.co.uk/catalog/cle ... p-864.html
  23. cool, love all the detail inset on the face!
