    What alloys?

would that be with tyres Bill? if so which kind and what tread?
  3. Thanks John, was hoping you'd be able to give the benefit of your experience with them. I have a feeling that using them would very quickly highlight how dismally bad non-4pot brakes are and lead me to change them soon anyway. I just dont know whether to mess around with wilwoods or hi-spec that will fit under 15s or get some larger brembos or similar from a more modern car.. The other thing I'm unsure about is if i go down this route is whether KWv1s are really appropriate suspension. I'd still like it to be reasonable to drive but noted what you'd said on another thread about track tyres requiring higher spring rates since they would cause more compression. At the moment I have Koni/H&R which is still fine but just not that low. Apart from a bit more drop i wonder if the KWs would actually be worth doing now i'm considering this direction. One interesting thing i learnt after ringing the people that I was planning to buy the tyres from (Rotation) was that from about a month ago apparently Toyo are now restricting who they will be supplying the R888s to. If true they are only supplying via recognised motorsports outlets and to people who are involved in some kind of trackday group or club. It sounds a little tenuous and Demon Tweeks claimed not to have heard of it but I'll wait to see how easy it will actually be to get hold of some. Cheers John
  4. whats the mileage Ben? i know someone might be interested in the spec you have..

  6. well i appear to have just won some team dynamics on ebay so the decision might have been made :) the tyres are definitely more expensive but i guess even if i had them on 15s then the additional grip would just have made me kill the 288s quicker, better start saving
  7. cheers guys. good point about the sump, i wont be doing it too often but i was aware of the issue so will keep it in mind. in case it wasn't clear, i meant that i'd be putting the track tyres on in any case, just whether there was noticable difference putting them on a 17 vs a 15in rim?
  8. think i did 15.4 in my standard VR but not tried since fitting other bits
  9. So, I've had a scruffy set of Solitudes hanging around for ages and having been round Silverstone last weekend with a mate in his car on Toyo R888s the decision is clearly made in my head that i need some :) However, I'm just wondering if a 50 profile sidewall on a 15" wheel is going to restrict the cornering benefit that I'll get from the tyres and whether I would be noticably better off going for 17" wheels with a lower profile tyre? I am vaguely tempted by better(bigger) brakes at the moment, but realistically i cant afford them at the same time as new wheels to fit over them. So for this year i dont "need" bigger wheels and maybe i'm better off going with the cheaper smaller tyre size on the wheels i've got rather than worrying about "going large" right now? If the difference of a lower profile was enough then I'd look for some cheapo 17s but if not then i'll stay standard(ish :)). Anyone with track knowledge of 15" Toyo R888s or similar?? These arent for daily use, just track days. Cheers! John
  10. just too slow ;) viewtopic.php?f=10&t=78168
  11. i think if you raised the car from 90 to 30 mm drop it would seem a lot better! but they are stiffer than standard yes, you could go standard with shorter springs but that could be expensive!
  12. koni shocks and h&r springs might be a good option for you - small drop, good quality..
  13. ah ok, yeah, should be no problem buying them in LHD either. you might also be able to get a deal from someone in the US as well, you still need to specify european LHD as i think they are different to US LHD but as they're coming from there anyway it might all work out cheaper.
  14. :norty: made me laugh, now that would be fun!!!
  15. Anybody know what a good target price for the front hoses is? - checked a couple of websites (Venom and C&R) and they seem to be around £102 which is a lot more than I remember paying for the standard set up hoses when I replaced those a while ago Vaughan, I paid just under £70 to C&R last summer for the full 6 hose kit for a late golf VR Mic is quoting above. cheers John
  16. Yes, golf VR and Corrado VR ones are different as are LHD and RHD ones. Corrado ones are generally made to order by Samco with 3-5 week delivery time(unless you want blue which some places hold in stock) and so anywhere that stocks any kind of Samco will be able to order you a RHD Corrado kit in the colour you want. Best price you'll get outside of a group buy will be around £210-220 delivered. Amber Performance have done good prices in the past. hope that helps, John
  17. yep, late golf mk3 vr set of 6 goodridge hoses is what you need to fit a corrado with golf 288s
  18. You've probably heard that the government is considering reducing the national speed limit on rural single track roads to 50mph. If not then theres a news story here. For those that believe they can judge for themselves the difference between safe and not safe at 60mph then the petition against this is there for the signing: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/noNSLreduction/ Cheers John
  19. it can happen with both Leon, i've got a VT mount on mine and it still scraped a bit even after vince did his hack job on the inside of the bonnet so the clearance needed needs to be checked carefully. I guess you've still got the metal one you were going to sell right? if you dont plan to use it based on this thread I was probably going to ask to take it off you! let me know when's good for the shelf as well! cheers John
  20. sorry to hear that mate, very sad :( cant fail to agree with you there though, have always thought that i might do this to address insurance issues! :D
  21. i tried it without success but it was a very big dent, but then so are the ones that the youtube guys seem to fix.
  22. well, it is now £50 +VAT per hour, which is a bit painful when your car is there for 18 hours of work but i certainly still recommend them.
  23. no problem, hope you find some for a good price!
  24. yes, they're good, especially out on the open road, just not so good in central london's generally shabby roads though! have probably done about 25k but no issues at all that i am aware of. could get them checked out by a garage at a service though. let me know if you might be interested.
  25. the ones on my car cost £477 4 years ago and may well be for sale soon if money works out to get some new stuff on..
