  1. this is on my list too....
  2. Whats going on? I spend the first 3 months of Vr6 ownership not seeing another C in my town (Lancaster), then I see 3 in the space of 2 days! Blue 16v parked on westbourne rd on Sat, another blue valver (poss same one) yesterday driven by a lady on westbourne rd, and I think a dark green valver driving past my house (corner of aysgarth rd) yesterday too. crazy...
  3. Right this has been resolved by the seller (alpha-bid) replacing my cable with a newer model (comes as an OBDII cable with 2x2 adaptor rather than both sprouting from one connector). I now have VAG-com 409 up and running! Looks like we were sent faulty cables, so I guess this thread could be locked?
  4. I did my sidelight on that side the other day and just took the airbox out. After I reckon I could have done it without removing the airbox, but it only takes minutes anyway.
  5. mines insured by greenlight through adrian flux. Brentacres couldn't match the quote (438 for a vr6 2yr ncb 23yo). Requirements were members club and approved immob. I fell off my chair when I was quoted that, and took them up on it. Not had to claim though.

    Gearbox oil ?

I used Fuchs (Silkolene) 75w-90 GL4 gear oil from Oilman on here, he recommended it as equivalent to redline MT90. Much cheaper than Redline MT90 since its not imported from the states - I paid £6.99 a litre posted (you'll need 2 litres). Certainly improved my shift no end since the manky old stuff was drained (gear box oil not a service part so it never gets changed normally!) got rid of any crunchness on my 100k box. Plus they sell 4 litre packs to save you even more cash - http://www.opieoils.co.uk/performance_l ... fuchs.aspx
  7. nice motor, but lets see pics of the girl
  8. er walk away unless he will drop mate. £3k is about the money recently for an OK Vr6 with EVERYTHING working. Fixing the ABS will be expensive unless you are fairly handy. VR6 Corrados are going for what seems like peanuts recently - see the classifieds on here for some examples. You don't state the mileage, but it is likely the owner would remember having the chains done cos its a big bill (circa £1k with clutch).
  9. Hmmm I got some from a pikey shop called "half price or less" (called home bargains in some places) for £3.99 and they are great! You wouldn't believe the quality of them, better than the ones I looked at in halfords for £25 +
  10. Try the specialists offering Corrado Club discounts too mate. I was quoted £620 fully comp on a VR6 and I'm only 24 with 2 years ncb. In the end I paid £438 TPFT to Adrian Flux, £200 less than the TPFT reneal quote for my previous 8V golf GTI by elephant.
  11. I thought you had 14 days grace when taking out any insurance policy over the phone? That should have covered that!

The students compete in it from our dept too: http://www.lancaster-racing.co.uk/ The thing the website doesn't mention is that the plan last year was to use a supercharged R6 engine, but they melted an engine in testing... so they had to run another engine without... It was pretty phenominal running unrestricted through the engineering car park with the charger! PS the events in July....
  13. can't be real - the last "o" is smaller than the first...
  14. ECP only had 1 set listed, and the bloke assured me they fit both coil pack and dizzy... is there an difference?! I needed them quick hence buying HANSA leads from ECP.
  15. Changed the leads on my VR6, in the new set is the lead shown below like the lead that used to go from the coil to the distributer on non-coil pack cars. Does it have a use on my car? I am assuming mine is a coil-pack car - see pic.
  16. er buy them from rochford instead for £460 delivered to your door in the correct fitment and with toyo proxes, saving you £140 and the hassle of adaptors. Or am I missing something?
  17. You could get these for £395 with tyres: No need for adaptors then..... I'm tempted too: clicky Upgrade to uniroyal / avon / toyo for £40 there too...
  18. These have been around a while.... IIRC some guy called Farboud started the company with his dream of making a car, designed it all, then sold the company. A few articles in EVO on this car, looks promising. This person will make a good friend Shaggsy......
  19. 29.... got 34 when taking it for real 7 years ago
  20. The noise is coming from that breather box! Ok so we think tappets then! It's not too bad now i've topped the oil level up, guess I'll have to keep a strict eye on the oil level. The car did smoke a little when accelerating after in gear coasting when running 10 40 oil (valve guides?) hence why i'm running 15 40 (cured the prob), so maybe a head rebuild is in order if anything gets any worse.
  21. Has gone with change of oil, now just slightly clattery like all VWs.... My VR6 sounds like a Diesel with a "clattering" noise from the offside of the rocker cover. Its not coming from the chains side so I don't think its the tensioners. The noise increases in rythm with engine revs. I recently replaced the belt tensioner due to a whining bearing. Car is on 102k with full VAG service history (last at 100k, I changed the oil 1 month ago since the car has been stood for a few months). Its a clattering noise not unlike the noise worn or misadjusted tappets make. I checked the oil level, was just over the minimum, so I filled it to the max (is running 15 40 semi synth, topped up with 1 litre ish 10 40 semi synth). This quietened it slightly - does the VR prefer a slight overfill to properly lube the tappets?! I'm no engine genius so will prob be wrong. I'd just like to quieten it down!
  22. yep a functional CF roof would need load of development and FEA modelling, unless you over engineered it in all directions in which case it would probably end up being heavier than the original and hence an expensive cosmetic mod.
  23. sold at 4450? would have to be pretty mint for that surely?
  24. Woudl a human have survived in there though?
