VR6 cooling pipe burst! anyone know the part number?
was8v replied to madmansi's topic in Engine Bay
I got one from VW,, but Vagparts.com will get you a genuine one delivered for £50 -
what year is the corrado? Late ones came with factory fit immobilisers, so the manufacturer would be VW OEM. Otherwise find where the immobilser cuts the loom wires around the fuse box (will be plain black wires joined to original coloured ones) and follow the wires back the the main unit and the make and model will be printed on it.

Sounds like a good buy if it's not burning oil and the gearbox aint too crunchy. New suspension, bushes and a bit of paintwork and it will be very nice I suspect! re missfire - probs coilpack/leads/plugs, the latter 2 may need changing anyway? see if anyone has a known working coilpack and try it, or they come up on ebay cheeeeeep sometimes.
-
Bear in mind the bank will charge you for this!

Apparently Redex is paraffin dyed red with a BIG markup. Sure I read it on here written by oilman.
-
Keep us updated on the G60 conversion - these covins seem to be a wallet friendly alternative to a real 911, and lets face it - miles better looking than 90% of kit cars :? Did they do a non-turbo bodied one?
-
Hmmm. My mother had a brand new Honda Civic a couple of years back, after washing it where the blobs of water sat on the rear hatch, they "stained" blobs into the paint for about a day. Very bizarre, seems the laquer was permeable for some reason and the only colution was for Honda to respray the hatch under warranty. Do your blobs go away after a day or so?
-
hmmm. I was tempted by a covin once. Trouble is, you can pick up a pukka lhd 911sc for as little as £6k. How does it handle?
-
I had this and it got much worse - was the coilpack in the end. Check plugs as said and HT leads first tho.
-
Someone only went and made a real one. http://www.rs-mania.co.uk/forums/index. ... ntry136640

Nah surely not? When using the key to effect closure, the passenger window goes up then the drivers, with the sunroof closing *at the same time as the windows* so everything is closed at the same instant. When using the alarm fob, just the windows close, no atempt is made by the sunroof!
-
HMMM when using the key to do full closure everything shuts on mine - windows then sunroof. Using the alarm fob just the windows close, not the sunroof. (1993 L reg coilpack VR6)
-
My windows open with one touch but not my sunroof.

Got another coilpack and it's running fine, thanks to all for the help. Was no evidence whatsover of damage or leakage from the coilpack, looked fine from the outside. Cylinders 1 and 6 definatly share a coil in the pack, 3 and 4, 5 and 2. :)
-
500ml over 2k miles ish? (there is no blue smoke, except a slight puff on overrun) Which cylinders share the same coils in a coilpack then?
-
done this, same result, miss on one, however..... UPDATE: Out of curiosity when you said this I pulled no.6 plug (no.1's twin) and this was covered in petrol too, so must be missing on that cylinder too. Does this point to the coilpack then? Anything else I can try?
-
will do, have been advised to swapo leads on the coil pack to see if it changes anything:

Apologies for the short sentances but I'm at my wit's end with this. My VR is not firing on cylinder 1 - this only seems to happen when warmed up. Removed plugs, the plug from cylinder 1 is the only one wet with petrol. Swapped whole HT lead (new leads 4 months ago) with another and still plug 1 is wet. swap plug with a new one, still wet and missing. connect spare plug to lead on cylinder 1 and start car - runs the same (missing on cylinder 1 obviously) and plug connected to lead 1 is sparking away happily. Hook up to VAG com, no fault codes. Wait till dark and spray coilpack and lead with water and see no sign of arcing any ideas what is wrong?! I suspect coilpack - any other way of checking this apart from the water spray? Given that I get spark when the plug is out and there is no sign of arcing I dont really want to buy another (£125). Any signs of a lack of compression on cylinder 1 to look for? Engine fouled up plug 1 over 3k miles on 10w40 oil, but still pulls like a train and ran great until this missfire. If the O2 sensor was out, I'd expect too much or too little fuel across all 6? I hear I have more chance of winning the lottery than a Vr6 injector failing.

hmmm related qusetion - My full closure does the windows but not the sunroof. Is there a way of connecting the sunroof up to it too?

The oil consumption was due to a missfire/poor spark produced by a faulty coil pack NOT bore wear / head wear as suspected!! My car is a 106k Vr6 and has a plug fouling problem due to oil deposits I believe due to bore wear / head wear on cylinders 1 and 6. When I first got it I ran it for 3000 miles on 15w40 halfords semi synth with only the occasional puff of blue smoke on overrun and the plugs (1&6) got black deposits though no missfiring, prob consumed 500ml of oil. 1.5k ago I changed to 10w40 synta silver semi synth and i've been getting bad problems with drinking lots of oil (1.5 litres in 1.5k) and the plug 1 badly fouling up to the extent that it doesn't spark. My question relates to oil weights: My understanding is that both the oils I have used are the same viscosity when at operating temperature (90-110deg), the 15w40 being slightly thicker than the 10w40 when cold. Now I understand oil also gets thinner as it gets hotter. So ignoring any other factors, why the difference in oil consumption and plug fouling - if the oil is thinner when hot surely this is when the oil gets past the seals and fouls my plugs? So the 2 oils should be no different being the same 40 weight equivalent? I don't understand why there is a difference. Also I need to do something about this oil consumption and plug fouling - (a rebore/head rebuild in an ideal world) - a thicker oil? I've read on here that mobil 1 fully synth 10w50 is used for cars driven hard so presume that weight is safe for the Vr6. Now I don't want to waste that cash if it is just gonna go to foul my plugs up. Will there be any ill effects from running cheaper 15w50 non synth oil? Is there actually any benefits of using semi-synth other than increased period between changes? I usually change every 4k so are the benefits of semi synth negated when changing so often?

Anyone ever had a handbrake (drums) seize on when its hot?
was8v replied to mrbeige's topic in General Car Chat
Happens lots to my sisters fabia. a quick tap on the drum with a hammer sees em free again (after releasing the handbrake!). -
The OE VW rack is better if you can find one (2nd hand only) Apparently the short roof kit is not necessary as there is a location of the rear bar to clamp - take a look at your side window rubbers and you will see two little arrows - it can mount here between these like the OEM VW rack does - someone with the thule kit needs to back this up tho!
-
No No no, sod second hand. http://www.broadspeed.com will get you a BRAND NEW ford Ka 1.3i for £4995 plus delivery. If that isn't a bargain, I don't know what is.
-
thats grounds for never letting them use the car again!
