My Schwartz Black VR6 - BMC DIA fitted & on track again
was8v replied to was8v's topic in Members Gallery
Fitted the BMC DIA in preperation for another trackday: 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfSN151488.JPG[/attachment:2y9fp9zb] Not sure I like it, quiet at normal throttle openings, but makes a very loud noise on big throttle openings BAAAAAAAAAAR sounds very loud :gag: Still at least i could hear the engine note with a helmet on when on track. After an afternoon at Outlon Park with easytrack, melted rear Kumhos (this pic was after the drive home too) the fronts were a little worse  good job they are cheap! SN151497.JPG[/attachment:2y9fp9zb] Car handles much better now with new wishbone bushes and alignment. Had the benefit of an instructor showing me the lines yesterday, which is recomended although a little expensive for what you get. -
Ooops. I dont think they do anything except stop large bits of dirt hitting the maf sensor. Which is pretty unlikely given theres an airfilter in the way. I guess they put the gauze there as its such a delicate (and expensive) part. There was some theory that the gauze "aligned" the airflow or some such, I don't buy that. If I were you I'd probably just pull the rest out and keep an eye on the classifieds for a MAF witht he same part number to keep in stock as a spare.

would also stop corrosion in there? i had to clean mine up to get the car past emissions last time.

Ok I have bought 2x: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0261513114 and http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0004567911 Will let you know how I get on.

Back on this, I still haven't got around to it. What length of pipe do I need to do the 2 engine bay bits? http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/fuel-hose-8m ... -613-p.asp and these clips: http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/fuel-hose-cl ... -975-p.asp

The bolt through the rear of the front wishbone was loose on my car causing similar symptoms, also a knock over cobbles. This was after having the wishbones changed out. Check all your suspension bolts are torqued up!
-
you can hardly see where they bolted that alternative front end on? seamless....

Absolute godsend of a book! Got me through my whole first year, and i still refer to it when I have a mind blank :confused4: Shudder, brings back memories......

Here you go: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/16/humm ... alled-art/

Its "art". Its parked outside some gallery or other in London. Some artist's take on bling over sized wheels I guess.
-
I'd still gamble wishbone bushes if you have no record of replacement. Stick the handbrake on and have someone balance the clutch. Watch how much the front wheels mve forwards in the arches! My right wishbone rear bush was shot (clunking) and the left looked fine, doing the test above and the wheels moved a fair way!!!! Replacing both wishbones complete with new bushes led to there being almost no movement. My car measured quite a difference in centre of rear wheel to centre of front wheel ont he left side as to the right side. Now they are within a couple of mm. The cars handling is transformed - I thought it was good before! lol.

Some good pics in this thread of fitting: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15976&p=164765&hilit=bmc+cda+fitting#p164765

Adjusting steering wheel position after tracking
was8v replied to boost monkey's topic in Drivetrain
Before you do anything, check the number of turns from straight wheels to lock each way. This will tell you if the rack is actually centred when the wheels are straight. If so then go ahead and move the wheel. Otherwise take it back again, and again and again..... Oh and check your steering rack boots arent all twisted up round the track rod from where they adjusted it. -
Ok thanks - a fair bit tighter than i've been doing it, no wonder it comes loose. I have just worked this out too: torque = force x distance therefore force = torque / distance 170nm / 0.3m (length of ratchet, 30cm) = 567N since 1kg ~ 9.81n 567n / 9.81n ~ 57.8kg So I have to imagine using the same force as picking my girlfriend up on the end of the ratchet...... Yes I've got a grinder, not sure i'd be brave enough to do this! Will give my pa a bell and see if he has any big taps.

My passenger side wishbone vertical bolt keeps working loose causing a clunk since changing the wishbones. How tight is 130NM? I dont have a torque wrench - is it tighter than i can get swinging off a standard size ratchet? Should I use a longer breaker bar instead - I don't want to release the captive nut. I'm going to remove the bolt at the weekend, clean it up as much as I can and then threadlock it in place.

bump anyone fitted an exhaust recenelty and managed to buy a suitable sleeve? Anlso any verification on where to cut? MY OEM exhaust is coming off to fit a magnex, but I want to be able to put the OE one back / sell on in future if I sell the car.
-
Mines got a drain on the battery i've yet to find. When theres not enough juice to start it just goes clicky clicky clicky clicky. Your battery may be fine, bump or jump start it and get it tested.

It all helps - some people see it as the be all and end off of service records. However anyone who knows anyone that works at a car dealer knows the service stamp gets used by employees and their mates casually. You can order a new one from VW and they will stamp it with the services they have a record of. I'd prefer to see reciepts than a stamped service book tbh, unlikely tho at the age our cars are.

Nice one! Get it hooked up to VAG-COM to get the fault code from the ABS ECU. Probably a dead sensor . VAG COM will tell you which one it is, or you can unplug them in turn checking the resistance. Of course it could be something else and VAG Com will tell you.
-
yep just opull the horn button off (it wont damage, give it a tug) and undo the bolt. Bolt the new one up and bobs your uncle. Incidently I have a genuine momo 6 bolt boss for a corrado sitting here doing nothing if anyones interested.
-
I got my last one from eurocraparts and it was a continental belt (same as from VW).
-
Could be the belt tensioner bearing? Theres a how-to on replacing just the bearing on here somewhere. VW will only sell you a complete tensioner £££ or vwspares.co.uk has them cheaper.

Most people just trim it off when it starts deteriorating. The silicone makes it look a little neater and more OE.
