Na that cant be right! the last time we bought some which was only last year they were around £20 each side :? but they could have gone up considerably since. Going to the dealers today so i'll ask if i remember.

Hi Mate and welcome to the forum  There should be plenty of topics about the rear brakes if you do a search (top right hand corner) all i'll add though is that always use genuine vw bits here as the quality of the ones from gsf and the like are pretty poor and vw ones aren't much more expensive anyway and last years longer as opposed to a few months which has been known to be the case. A caliper windback tool is also a good purchase for this job too around £30 from halfords. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165469 Oh yeah, before you start the job buy some irwin bolt grippers to remove the caliper carrier bolts as these are almost impossible to remove without these. trust me i tried some recently after 15 years of corrado ownership and it is the best £20 i have spent on tools, and lastly you'll need new bolts  http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... -tool-sets

Yeah i guess its me getting old too though as i like practicality best  I just hear the woes of all my work colleagues with lowered cars and i just struggle to understand when it causes so much grief. one of them does a 5 mile detour to avoid speed bumps on the way to work :cuckoo: add that up the extra mileage at the year end
-
Or just lift the car up a bit  sorry but just dont get this driving around whacking the sump, you are probably risking shearing some of the sump bolts heads off if you hit it hard enough which will then be a right pain to remove the left over studs stuck in the block

As in the VR6 DOHC cover?? Yes mate, i had a small crack in one but had it plastic welded and then painted silver but while it was being done someone offered us another that was ready to go so we fitted that hence this spare one. £25 posted -

looking good  would love to stick one of these on mine too, you just need a bit of eye kandy in the form of a painted cam cover now :norty: got one spare if you fancy it! Kip -
I dont mate, the ones i have will have probably been mixed up a long time ago as it's on Judes daily which we are fixing. I remember having to replace a rear carrier on my VR though about 5 years ago after that siezed and i ended up getting one from a scrap yard so i probably put the pins back in the wrong way round anyway. It still works fine though so maybe it isn't that critical but i did see a post a year or so ago on here with the correct procedure but i cant see it making that much difference and i know i'll be whacking them in any old way when they come back from being refurbished at bigg red.

HI all, Are these caliper carriers left & right specific? they look identical to me so thought they may fit on either side. http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info. ... ts_id=1901 Thanks :salute:

Ok numpty question, what does short to earth mean  and open circuit? sorry but i hate electrics with a vengeance  How does a complete novice tackle these few issues? Thanks!

Cheers chris, Just had a google too but couldn't find anything concrete so to speak so i'll take a look at these little critters. Thanks buddy :salute:

HI all, been having some major problems with the 8v for a while now, it nearly always starts from cold but has been known to not do but if i drive it a while be it a short 2 or 3 mile or more say 15 to 20 mile when i come back to it after a few mins it struggles to turn over and i just leave it for 5 mins and wiggle a few wires and sometmes it fires up but sometimes it takes upto 30 mins :( Plugged in on of those generic code readers and these came up, 00522 & 00523, any ideas how to cure them? The car has also cut out and died several times whilst driving when this happens the revs just drop instantly and the car just rolls in gear but wont go again untill i stop and leave it for a short while. This happened while i was in the outside lane of the motorway recently which is not good when you put the hazards on doing 70 or so and no pillock lets you through as they all drive so close :censored: Really getting to me now as been rescued by the AA a couple of times now but it will always fire after leaving it a while so at a loss untill it completely goes pop. Either that or it goes off a bloody cliff i'm so hacked off with it. Sigh :(

Goota love the red leads and i wouldn't change mine if i was given a set of brand new black ones, i actually bought a brand new set last year and demanded they be red Lol! black just look a little boring to me so nice to have a bit of candy under the bonnet

Sounds like a good deal Andy  Agree with the common courtesy too you wouldn't believe some of the stories i've collected over the years
