Fingers well and truly crossed for you Jim, hope it turns out to be just that! :?
-
Hmm it is a while ago though, what kind of mileage did it have when the dampers were replaced?
-
Hi Tom, What are the dampers like? i'd be thinking it could be that along with the top mounts. Although i dont know much about this sort of thing but since replacing all my suspension and associated bits it feels much better even on the standard ride height  Hope this helps!

Looking so good dave! Am a bit jealous if i'm honest
-
Yeah i have to agree, i took my pride and joy for its last service at the main dealers last year. Had it ten years this year and always serviced by my local dealers but £180 for an oil & filter and a quick look over is pathetic and i think anyone who takes them to the dealers when they re so old is a bit daft if i'm honest. Me included  Will be doing the service bits myself from now on as i have changed the colant and the brake fluid without problems and feel so much better in myself for doing it too! theres so much info on this forum that if anything does go wrong there always some good info to fall back on :salute: Been there done that and wont be going back now!

Any ideas what you might have fitted Jim? just curious. got clifford on 3 of ours and they seem very reliable. :?

Hi Drew, as i said at the NEC i really hope it works out for you with this project! how about asking if this thread could be made a sticky? to help get custom from the forum? maybe then you could donate a percentage back to Andi. Just a thought but best of luck with it

Oh man gutted for you! my partner (Butterfly) had her 8v insured thirp party fire & theft and that didn't include cover either only she had to spend £350 on a new screen too which made the total cost including insurance for that year about £200 more than it would have been fully comp. :cuckoo: Am sure you wont forget it next time you insure. Best of luck mate and let us know how you get on. Try the dealers too! you never know.
-
Claim on your insurance mate, about £50/60 excess these days  unless of course you did the silly thing and took out a policy without this cover???? if so give yourself a slap on the wrist and dont do it again

    Blimey as i cant say anything stronger! staggering stuff!

Realy gutted to see this Jim, hope it's something simple :( Daft thing for me to say but have you checked the fuel pump fuse yet? mine wouldn't start last week and it turned out to be the fuse for the fuel pump, but the silly thing was the fuse for the lights had also blown and this was stopping me from starting it so after changing that too it worked fine :cuckoo: Good luck with it mate!
-
Give over mate, try it again and something different to stick it with! Not sure what but have a search i'm sure it'll be suggested whats best for the job there
-
Take off the panell and do it yourself mate, much better option and there's allsorts of adhesives around that'll do the job too! An hours job on a sunny day including tea and biccies

Yeah most of the early VR's came with red badges front and rear i think it was up to mid 94 but dont quote me on that. :?
-
I sympathise mate as i'm having a nightmare too! so many things it could be though so i need to replace the loom in the door as it set on fire recently :( Try a search for some other ideas though as most faults have been covered before. Sorry i cant be any more help! Kip.

the only advice i can possibly give on this one mate is to go and lay down in a dark room.
-
Scary stuff Dave, hope to see you tomorrow for a better look :norty:
-
Well you know our thoughts mate, a real shame it has to go but understand all the same. Was really good to see you last week and catch up & hope we can do that again soon  I'll give you 2k for the storm if you get stuck

I was trying to sort out the central locking/windows so i put in another fuse and strted the car and it started smoking inside the door so whiped off the panel quickly to see the wires all singed :( and now it wont start either so i reckon its damaged something else in the process :censored:

Real shame Stefan, as if life these days aint hard enough you get this kind of twits roaming around at night. Keep an eye out for a bonnet in the right colour too! could save a few pounds when you get round to it. Hang in there matey! if its any consolation my Vr needs the clutch and chains doing££££££££££££ and my 8v had a fire yesterday and fried all the electrics so it wont start either :( so i'm cycling to work instead WTF 2 cars and they're both FCUKed. Big sigh

Looks stunnng indeed, saw ths recently and loved it straght away! the engine bay is mint :shades: -
Regarding the ABS it could be the sensors on the front or rear but would replace the fronts first as they are cheap as chips on ebay and sorted it straight away Think i managed to get a pair for less than £30 :D
-
That helps a lot bill, if its only a case of a fairly short set of wires then i may see what the dealers charge for on if its available :? Cheers for the reply and happy new year

Hi All, Well 'll start from the begining, the 8v has had a problem blowing the main fuse which operates the central locking and electric windows, it started blowing around every 10 days but now it blows straight away so thought id take half the inside out to try and source a short somewhere. Came to look at the central locking pump located in the boot and it had disconected the whole plug from the unit, this i thought would be it so i reconected the plug and replaced the fuse 30 amp and started the car and it worked the windows again but then i could smell burning and smoke started to appear inside the door. So i whipped of the panel pronto to see the wire that goes to the pump thingy for the central locking inside the door melting itself silly and stinks awfull and is now proper useless as its melted all the way along :( So if i get a new door loom how far into the car does it go? does it plug into the back of the fuse box somewhere or does it go through the bulk head? I did take a quick look but it was going dark by this time. Any advice on replacing the loom and its location beyond the door hinge would be very welcome. Thanks!
