really chuffed to see this back to life. You started having issues with your 12v and the subsequent rebuild etc when we had similar issues with nikkis vr. Are you still planning on doing the detailed build story you mentioned earlier. Will definitely be taking lots of pics at e38 if thats ok. Do you have any pics of the downpipe you had made up? cracking work anyway, good luck with the mot, fingers crossed Gav

As per the title, does anyone know the weight of a single standard vr6 piston? Ta muchly Gav
-
really looking forward to seeing this up and running. Undecided at the moment as to keep the fly by wire and use s much of the loom as possible allowing me to access all the diagnositcs later on or to splice the 12v loom into. Are you going to inters if you pick it and alls ok? Gav

woohoo, excellent news. Did he say what the problem was? ive got exactly the same set up sat in our garage waiting to go in Gav
-
lol, yeah i forgot to mention the crank :cuckoo: just need to get them out this faternoon as quick as possible and the head still on, thought it might be easier to whip the sump off and get them out that way. Hows your 24v coming along? any luck with the ecu issues? Cheers Gav
-
can it be done without taking the head off? as in sump off, pistons out? Cheers Gav
-
sadly not, just a little 2.8 24v from a 4-mo. And a box full of wiring that makes me poo oneself everytime i look at it

lol, yeah i agree. howver a change of wheels and a few sublte mods would make it less recognisable to someone who isnt familiar to the car. But yeah, its still jays rado -

Thats the whole point with this though. its heavily modded in its executuion to make it as oem as possible (does that make sense?). Its built in a way that vw would have done if theyd built a 24v rado. Its not your usual cut shut of wiring looms incorporating the complete 24v car (not just engine) loom. Even to the extent that the fuel pump primes when you open the door as per the mk4 4motion  Its this attention to detail that i admire, in that for whoever owns it , albeit a comparative novice, theyd still be able to plug vag com in and fault find throughout the whole vehicle as per the 4 motion it was all transplanted from. -
that lives about 15 miles from us. No its not mine :hitler:
-
on a side note id try and get your carpet out sharpish. Its not the wet carpet youe got to worry about, its the sponge sound deadening thats underneath and glued to the floor. It soaks up the water and starts to rot very quickly Gav
-
yes thatll give you the clearance you need. I made this mistake last year and couldnt be arsed hoisting the engine out again. Unbolted the two bolts that hold the strut to the hub and bobs your uncle
-
right,im another one to convert to the darkside. Mine will only be a 2.8 from a 4motion though. Engine should be on its way in the next few weeks. Hoping to use as much of the 24v loom as possible including keeping the fly by wire. Loads of excellent info on here. Does anyone have anypics of the work neededon the downpipe? Thanks Gav

anymore updates? been looking forward to this Gav

Just read the whole thread from page one rather than just doing my usual and skimming through the pics. Inspirational stuff i must say. Think a few people need to have a look at this next time it pops up for sale to appreciate how unique this car is. Gav -
Good lad, excellent news another one been saved
