not something im proud off mate :gag: Saw this parked at the side of the road so left a note on it with my number and the owner got back to me. Its got service history up till o5, stainless exhaust, dodgy aftermarket rims, tsw voodoo's? momo steering wheel (for sale) and a kenwood headunit. Went to have a look at it and it fired up with a bit of help from my chunky jump leads and my works van. Very lumpy but this soon cleared once it got warm. Exhaust blowing. after having a quick look, n/s wing needs replaced (badly dented) sunroof runner borked and wonky. Rear bumper is dinged and a small ding on n/s rear arch. Wing mirrors dont work, neither does central locking. Interior is in good condition albeit minging and the rest of the body seems pretty straight albeit looks like its been polished with a brilo pad. The roof is badly oxidised and the paints very very dry. :ignore: Made an offer, he declined then rang me back a week later saying ok. :D Picked it up that night,Boot full of new servicing parts, leads plugs, belts, discs etc. Also a new fog light which was nice. He also came out with a working sunroof frame and mech  Nikki drove him home and nothing orrible came to light :salute: other than the battery being deader than a dead thing. Rummaging through the service histopry and we found the receipt for the battery from halfords :luvlove: Popped in next day and they swapped it free of charge  Nice one. Also whilst rummaging in the boot i think ive found the soruce of the poor running and blowing exhaust...er the lamda is in the boot, lol  Hes had a new cat fitted but it doesnt look like theyve fitted the lambda lol :camp: . Well thats it, not going to get a chance to have a fiddle this weekend :( but maybe get a chanve during the week. Feck knows what im going to do with, id like to say ill keep it but i always say that and something happens and i end up selling we shall see i guess. Gav

Quick question- need to get insurance for a day to pick a car up and bring it home. Only problem is i also need to tax it. If i transfer my current ins over for the day will they issue me with an ins cert so i can tax it or will they only give me a cover note? Same question if i go to one of the specialist companies that do one day insurance. Any ideas? Gav

I think so, i can only rember there being one round seal on the lower chain cover when i took it off and can only see one on the diag on the bentley manual. Is this right?

Might be worth taking the upper tensioner bolt of and having a look at the rubber o-ring on the piston. That sounds similar to when one i had perished. Piston cant hold the pressure and loses tension in the chain Gav -
Oh and another thing....when you do take your car rounbd any circuit be it uk or abroad, nask up or take off your number plate. Their are more and more ins companies now going to track days and noting peoples reg plates.
-
Ive done a lot of track days up until the last 2 or 3 years in both the uk and abroad and can highly recommend them. Theres some great deals at off peak times thoughout the year at most of the circuits so its advantageous to get on their mailing lists to find out when these are. Oulton park and Cadwell are two of my favourite tracks but ive also got a soft spot for Anglesey (which can be had very very cheaply) and Lydden here in kent. We used to go to the Ring 2-3 times a year with the bikes and as stated its in no way the same as any track day. Its a toll road not a track and people treat it as such. Oddly enough when gt3 came out with the the ring on it the accident rate went up there approx 50%. I remeber seeing lots of posters around their basically saying forget what youd learned on the ps2. Becasue its such a long track and the scenery is pretty similar its pretty easy to get confused as to where you are on the track if comparing it to gt3 and thats where people were making mistakes. Taking a line expecting one bend but actually being another. The Biggest thing that hit me the first time i went round were the gradients. Some of the dips and hills are bloody massive (another thing gt3 doesnt replicate). Dont get me wrong it is worth going but just be very careful. Also be prepared fo a wait as it often gets closed for 2-3 hrs at a time if theres an accident and there are many accidents Some of the exotica that goes round is simply jaw dropping and worth the trip in itself. I was lucky enough to take and ex frank beila touring car round a few years ago and it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life. Alos dont forget to check your insurance before you go as many ins companies actuall state now your not covered to drive round the ring even though its a toll road. The european circuist as a whole have a very different feel to them than the uk. The whole attitude is very different to the uk. Personally spa is my favourite circuit by far. Ive only been once but its fantastic. Folembret is also very good too in the south of france but the quality of tarmac wasnt particularly good last time i went but it does have the advantage of only being about an hour or so away from calais but never seems to be very busy. word to the wise, First time i took a rado vr round oulton park it had stock brakes and i went through 2 sets of pads in a day. Take spares HTH Gav

Positive this is an ex forum car too. Im sure bigchris used to own this. Very nice it is too Gav

Chances are your ecu wont have a plug in eprom so that will needed to be fitted, (its the socket that the chipset plugs into, most later vr's from the factory had the chips soldered in)

The names have been changed in the following story to protect the inoccent, namely me being sued. Once upon a time there was a tuning company, for this story lets call them AM.....errrr. The new quite far in advance they were going into receivership so were a little lacklustre shall we say with stock managment..ahem....then along came a big company cally large mens toys who bought them out. During the many years AM.....er....had been in business they had developed a wide range of generic maps for predominantly Vw/audi/seat ect vehicles. When it came to shut up shop, rather absentmindeldy someone had lost all the originall software for these maps. How very carless of them. Then coincidently and in no way related someone on ebay began selling generic chipsets for vw/audi/seat etc hmm....

ok, ill give it a go and hope for the best, cheers. Engines out so ill crank it over by hand to try and reduce the chance of it slipping when i fire it up Thanks again Gav

Can i pureg it and torque it up with the piston compressed then when the oil pressure builds itll push the piston out and take up the slack. Any ideas muchly appreciated Gav
-
Right, im struggling with these bloody things for some bloody reason. The first one i refitted is the reasoon for the earlier failure in the upper tensioner pad. Not sure if it had an airlock or i simply didnt purge it properly. I followed the instructions in the bentley but still managed to balls it up. Bought a new one from vw, pulled the piston out, submerbed both parts in oil and refitted the piston. Torqued it into the back of the head as per the bentley and all was quiet for about 5-10 secs then the chains made almightly racket. Removed the bolt and then pulled out the pluber to find the rubber seal had been piched allowing the psiton to lose pressure. Ive now got a replacement and want to do this properly any ideas? Ta Gav

mmm....shiny. 1 more sleep lol

6 DAYS honkey!!
-
actually, its still got the early grille
-
iirc the main one used is a Y-plate WR pre facelift with the facelift headlights and grille. Nice to see them doing something a bit different and not taking the easy route like a sierra or granada
