What the hell does that first bit mean?
-
It is a very similar shot, but my spoiler is down. Is yours stuck?
-
[/quote:39846] But yours is standard is it not..? Until I upgraded the headlight loom

I must be one of the lucky ones, I can't say there are any noticable squeaks in the cabin. My car is still on standard suspension so that could be one reason for it. :)

Looking very bling, nice job on the polishing. Like the wheels too.
-
Correct. Thing is Paul, they produce such a measily amount of heat that you wind up ignoring them & using a cloth anyway  Nick, I wonder if their efficiency decreases with age. I could do with a new one on the passenger side as the mirror is going a little brown around the bottom edge, it would be interesting to see if a new one demists any better. I know someone got hold of some mirrors from TVR recently as they are cheaper, maybe I should give them a try.

I've been led to believe that all corrados (or at least all VR's) had heated mirrors. Or.... maybe this is why they're not working......[/quote:98c1e] Just had a look in my Storm brochure and heated mirrors are listed as standard equipment. I take it they should come on when you put the rear window demister on. Can't say I've ever seen the mirrors misted so I wouldn't know if mine are working or not.

The 2.9 was definately used in the passat syncro although I'm not absolutely sure that the first VR engines that went into the Passat in '91 were 2.9's

There are different ways to improve a cars emmisions, after all a lot of modern V8's have cleaner emmisions than a Moris Minor. VW decided to reduce the capacity and subsequently the power output down from 190bhp to 178bhp which was probably easier and cheaper than fitting lots of emmision control systems to achieve the same result. I believe the VR6 engine first appeared in the Passat in 1991 in 2.9L configuration
-
Heated mirrors, were they standard?
-
I could be wrong but I think the VR engine started out as a 2.9 and was down sized to a 2.8 to meet the more stringent US emmisions standards. The 2.8 was the engine used in the US spec VR's and all VR goofs

The flashing headlamp could well be the bulb, had the same thing happen on mine, changed the bulb and all ok. As for getting rid of the car don't go there, you know you would end up regretting it. Just get the problems sorted, probably all quite simple things to resolve.
-
mine does it too. It goes as soon as the engine warms up although I still get a slight whistle at high revs. It sounds like it's common to VRs

There is something magical about 3rd gear in a C, the car comes alive! :)
-
Sorry to hear that, you must be totally gutted.
-
Oil on the clutch friction linings could cause judder but i would expect you would get some slipping as well. It could be that the springs on the friction plate are worn or broken. How many miles has the clutch done? As suggested, judder could also be caused by sloppy engine/gearbox mounts

Campaign - the girl or the horse? :)
-
Horse lover are we? Now what made me think he was talking about the girl?

Just had a look on etka and there does seem to be a chain that links the cams on a 16V. As Walesey says probably worth chaning it when you get the belt done.
-
You don't need a timing chain for a 16V. Timing chains are only used on a VR6
-
It's funny, I was so into taking some good pics of the car that I didn't notice. I must be slipping!!!!
-
Thanks for the comments guys, makes all that effort worthwhile. Phil K - They asked me if I wanted some real horsepower in the photo so how could I say no
-
I think you can pick up the 15's for about £70 a corner so the 17,s will be a little more I guess. Add extra for fitting.

Glad to see you got it sorted. Looking really nice and very shiney. :) -
Like that a lot Luke, suits the car perfectly :)
