Corrado Spotting Archive February 2005

Standard metallic Blue VR6 with VAG mud flaps spotted on the way to work in Rutherglen. M***HGB. I bottled out of waving as we were side by side at the traffic lights for a bit of the journey  Was hiding behind my tinted windows! -
Check out the knowledge base. There is a how to on it.

Brentacre have done me a good quote and has a 210bhp power limit so I can do what I like so long as the power doesn't exceed 210bhp @ the flywheel. The xs is £450 which is a bit more than I'd like but £700 TPFT for protected NCD is very good IMHO. It is through a company called ENZYME or something like that. Not sure to go for it yet or not as HIC quoted me £700 but not protected NCD but the guy said he'd try to beat any quote I got. I'll also phone my current insurers back to see if they can match or beat Brentacre. Wallet is going to take a hit either way methinks!

Cheers buddy :)

Got their number handy at all?

Jim, I've just had my renewal through from Chris Knott. It's £650 TPFT. Down £100 since last year but I'll have 4 years no claims, no convictions/accidents or anything. Wouldn't mind paying what you are for fully comp. Do you have a power cap limit? I'll have to phone around tomorrow to get prices, not sure if I want to stay with Chris Knott after hearing some scary stories on here recently.

Capet removal is easy, just time consuming and a bit fiddly. I've had my carpets out 2 or 3 times and it's just a pain. You need to remove the lower half of the dashboard (the little shelves etc), the rear seats (bottom half), front seats all the centre tunnel, rear doorcards (might be able to get away without), plastic trim along inside of doors and I think that's about it. Sounds like a nightmare but is relatively easy when you've done it a few times.

Spotted 2 today! Red J plate (i think) on Glasgow road just down from Shawfield stadium at about 8:15am on my way to work. Got a flash and a wave back, anyone? On the way home spotted a metallic blue VR (possibly, it was dark and they belted past me at the lights) as they went right heading towards the kinston bridge. You wouldn't have spotted me as I was on the inside lane sitting in heavy traffic and you cruised round the corner the opposite way.

depening on what colour you are after, look at halfords' V.H.T. paint. tis what i used on my calipers (well Henny's calipers to be exact).

Sounds like the grille in the engine bay is clogged with leaves thus letting water in or the seal around the grille has perished and is letting water in. The water drips down along the blower motor for the heater and gets the carpet really wet. Same happened to me bout a month ago. Easy enough to sort out, just takes a while. Well it did the way I did it. I removed the grille and the seal and cleaned it all up. I got some black sealant and went crazy with it! I made sure that between the bodywork and the inside of the blower motor was water tight and then made a new silicone seal and it worked a treat. Good luck in sorting it. Whereabouts in glasgow are you anyway? Might be able to give you a hand.
-
Good call. I was hoping that anyway. I'll get a new waterpump, stat and housing and get it fittet as soon as to see if that sorts it.
-
Not replaced this yet as I really only had time to sort out my alternator before I started my new job. Anyway, after having to top up my coolant bottle on tuesday morning with water, I have noticed that when my engine temp is between 50-100 (bloody rush hour) and water temp is just under 90 there is no hot air being blown out of the heater fans. Are these problems related in anyway? Sounds like it to me but I am a bit of an amatuer.

You could do actually. Never thought of that Kev.  Ah well, save your pennies and just get the foamy bit.

Urgent alternator help required...somethings missing i think
biggrim replied to biggrim's topic in Engine Bay
Bugger! Nevermind, got the new alternator for £100.44 after the nice parts dept man gave me a cheeky corrado club discount. I also got the bit that I forgot to take off and it's all fitted and the car is doing what it should, when it should. So I'm well chuffed with another first time attempt at something that went right. I took some pics of what I had done so I'll try to do an easy to follow guide (for people like me who aren't too sure of these things). Just want to say thanks to Darren for giving me a bit of guidance as I really had no clue what to do. Just have to sort out my water pump now..... b0llocks -

It's the little black rectangle that plugs into the alternator then onto a spade connector. It's on my old one at the dealership. My dad picked up the new one and dropped off the old for me but I didn't know that bit had to be kept aside. Is it something that I can get from euro or gpc on monday morning if my trip to the dealer fails today? Cheers for the pic matey -
Hey all, quick question for you if you don't mind. My dad picked up my new alternator from the stealer today while i was at work (so I didn't get hit with the surcharge). I've just got in and it looks like there is something missing from the new alternator. It's a little black or brown plug type thing i think. I thought I'd get that bit with the new alternator. The problem is, the dealer ain't open again till monday and my old alternator will most likely be gone. Is there deffo a bit missing and if so, where can i get one from before tuesday? It's a bit of a random so apologies. Cheers in advance, Graeme

My alternator has been on it's last legs and lastnight the car died on me. No power, no nothing. Knew what it was so got a cheeky jumpstart which lastet 5 minutes. Got home eventually with the voltmeter dropping at quite a pace and stuck it in the garage. Bizzare thing was that the voltmeter jumped back up to around 12 volts when I got it back in the garage...strange. Typical, that it happens the week before I start my new job where I'll be needing the car everyday. Anyway, phoned the dealer today and they'll have a new one for me tomorrow for £95 + V.A.T. I've checked the bushes and they are very worn and my mate has checked the alternator and said it is fooked. Just before I spend £112, it it deffo buggered?

So I should replace the waterpump, stat housing and stat itself? Do either of you guys have the part numbers and idea of the price of these parts? Would I be aswell waiting till I bought a new alternator before doing this? What I mean is if they are in roughly the same place, to save time and money get them both done at the same time? Most likely give Star Performance a call and see what Jim can do for me. Not sure if it's something I could tackle myself. I'd be willing to try it to save a bit of money but I can't have the car off the road as of next Tuesday cause I star my new job. Any suggestions? Thanks for your input guys

Hi there. After having my G60 for nearly 2 trouble free years all the problems start now. I've recently fixed 2 rainwater leaks and 1 coolant leak (the side of the block). However, after doing that I noticed the coolant level dropping slightly but put it down to the coolant settling. It would seem that there is some coolant dripping onto the ground from the water pump. Not good, particularly combined with my need for a new alternator and bonnet release cable. I have taken a 10 sec video on my phone of what's happening but I need someone to host it so you can all have a look and give me your opinions. Any takers? It would be greatly appreciated. All this comes when I will be using my car 5 days a week as opposed to the weekend/special events I use it for just now. Think I'm gonna :cry Dinkus has kindly hosted it for me (cheers matey) http://www.brainwavemedia.co.uk/~domini ... pumped.3gp Might need quicktime to view it.

It may have been a Volkswagon, at a guess!! You know what I mean

Just off the phone to the stealer this morning. The part number is 536 823 531 and costs £23.31 + VAT and surprise surprise, they don't keep it in stock. I wouldn't have thought it would have cost nearly £30 for a cable. I also asked if they do a Corrado Club discount only to be told, "No, not really but I'll see what I can do". I have had Corrado Club discount before from there so I don't know what's going on. I'll have to find out more from CCGB. So I'll hopefully be picking it up tomorrow morning and fitting it before I start work.
