Torque setting for the bolts is 15nm/11lbft.

I hate the silicone instant gasket stuff that gets everywhere but I must admit to being a big fan of 'Wellseal'. http://www.wellseal.co.uk/ I rebuilt my VR6 engine earlier this year and put a smear of this on every joint (except the head gasket) and there is not drip or dribble anywhere. More importantly than any of this is of course is the fact that Wellseal smells ace.

It sounds daft but I got mine recently from Amazon... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0068MSCKE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 It's the rubbery one not the card/cork/cr@p one. I tried ordering from Euro Car Parts but gave up after getting two wrong ones.

What's wrong with your old one Gavin? Mine works fine but is missing the clip that holds it in place. I'd be interested in taking your knackered old switch off your hands for a reasonable price if it's complete so I can make a good one out of two sh1te ones.

Exhaust Manifolds to Downpipe connection
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to Jim Bowen's topic in Engine Bay
I used copper grease on mine. Sounds daft but I used to work in a tyre/exhaust emporium and the best bloke there used to swear by it. I use it on all exhaust joints and have done for years. Never had a blowing joint and everything comes apart again when you want it to. The only negative is that it smokes and stinks when it first gets hot (I imagine the grease burns off and leaves the copper behind). -
A little bit left over...

Beautiful. Thanks for the diagram it helped me find a photo of it... That'll be a scream to put back then (now everything else is already in place). Thanks for everybodys help. -
A little bit left over...
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to Fine wine, Belgian chocs.'s topic in Engine Bay
It is indeed. With a C on the end if that makes any difference. It doesn't fit up me tailpipe either. I tried and it was damned uncomfortable. -
Good evening, I've spent most of this afternoon strutting about like a dog with two cocks because my two month engine rebuild has run for the first time today. Everything appears to work, nothing seems to leak, it sounds fine, and I've only got one bit left over... Can anybody tell me where to stick this please?

VR6 Sump Gasket replacement advice
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to Andy T's topic in Engine Bay
Old thread but if anybody ever needs to know: The torque setting for the sump bolts is 15nm according the VW manual. (and if you over tighten the ones near the flywheel then you'll strip the thread and have to tap them out to M7. Don't ask me how I know.) -
Leftover part identification, anybody?
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to Fine wine, Belgian chocs.'s topic in Engine Bay
Thanks chaps. Starter solenoid earth is still attached to the starter but the distributor is a good point. I suppose it could've been stuck in the crud on the gearbox for years. -
Evening all, I've got the engine and gearbox out at the moment and took the opportunity to give the gearbox a blast with the powerwasher. When I'd finished I found this on the ground: It looks like a 3 inch long earth strap but I've no idea where it came from. Any ideas? (Car is a 93 VR6 manual)

Practical Classics 90's Coupe Supertest
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to 16VG60's topic in General Car Chat
I'm not sure I like the way I've also been highlighted as an 'inaccurate factiod' in your copy. :) (I know I was due a haircut at the time but....) What can I say? I had an ace day out and the bloke who wrote the article was a proper Corrado fan who was there at the original launch and had nothing but compliments for them. The conclusion he came to came as no real surprise to me. I was slightly disappointed at the reference to the fictional 24 valve head but I always thought the back axle was 'Passat derived' too (and I've been driving Corrados for the last 16 years). -
Practicle Classic Magazine Article
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to mr.ots's topic in General Car Chat
That's my car. It was a superb day out and I'm a bit surprised at the inaccuracies as the bloke that wrote the article was a right fan of the Corrado and seemed to know his onions. I'd post some pics up but I've just got back from Holiday and I'm desperate for my bed! Maybe tomorrow. -
'93/'93 VR6 bit of seat trim?
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to Fine wine, Belgian chocs.'s topic in Wanted
"Not with the cover, but yeah easy to remove. Half a dozen metal teeth at the back need to be bent up to free off the material, then it all just folds forward and the plastic bracket unclips from the metal strip along the bottom." Thought it was something like this. Thanks for the advice, just need to find a good cover now. -

Is the passenger seat undamaged? Will you sell it on its own or are you hoping to sell the complete interior? -
My passenger seat has picked up a small hole somehow which has hacked me off a bit as the rest of the interior is mint, so I'm after a decent cover for the base cushion. I know it comes separate to the bolster covers and I seem to remember it being quite easy to remove and refit (although it's about 12 years since I rebuilt the drivers seat). And here's a close up of the material just to be sure: I'd buy a full seat or even a full interior to get what I need (as long as the price is right and it's not the other side of the world from North Lincolnshire). Can anybody help? Cheers, Lenny.
-
That's sounding promising then. I only actually need the cover of the base cushion of the passenger seat. The bolsters on mine are perfect- I've just got a small hole in the middle of the centre bit. This is the best picture I could find of my interior: Is this the same trim as yours? It's amazing how excited I can get about a bit of mouldy 20 year old cloth. I need to get out more.
-
Evening, Have you still got much of the interior left? My passenger seat base has developed a hole somehow so I need to get hold a good cover/seat base/passenger seat. I really don't need any more of the interior and I'll understand if you don't want to split it. (This is all assuming it's the boring dark grey early vr6 interior with the lighter grey diagonal stripes, and that the bit I need is in good nick?) Cheers, Lenny

Evening Dave, Have you still got the fan control module available? Is it a 1HO 919 506?, Cheers, Lenny. -
Evening chaps, I've got a bit of an issue with my VR6. I took her for an MOT on Saturday and she sailed straight through again but to do the emissions test they ran her until the fans cut in and they've not stopped yet. Whenever the ignition is on the fans are going. I reckon they're going full blast too, they make a hell of a racket. I disconnected the fan motor to drive it home and since then I've so far replaced the big brass fan switch in the radiator and the yellow and black sensors in the thermostat housing. None of this has made any difference. At the moment I've got the black sensor disconnected. I'm now suspecting the fan control module, does anybody agree? Is there any way of testing it? What's inside one of these black boxes? Anything that can be repaired? I got in touch with my local TPS earlier to price one up and they tell me the part number (1HO 919 506) is now obsolete. Can anybody tell me the difference between mine and a 3AO 919 506 or a 357 919 506? They all look the same to me. Apologies for the barrage of questions but I'm a bit lost with this.
