I've used them for over ten years now and never had any complaints. Obviously you get what you pay for and all that, but overall the quality has been fine. I don't think twice about using their bits for my cars and have used loads of their stuff on customers cars where I work. I dread to think how much I've spent with them over the years. :)

Had this problem with my old Mk2 GTI and I think you're right about the 'T-piece thing'. It's a pressure relief fitted on a recall to stop the possibility of the heater matrix exploding. Try removing it temporarily and linking the pipes up with some tubing and jubilee clips. If the problems solved then either get a new one from VW (about £30 if I remember rightly) or leave it out and don't worry about it. I left mine out of my Golf and never had any probs but I suppose it must be there for a reason. :D

Most likely to be a deformed tyre or bent wheel I'm afraid. Probably a deformed tyre if its got gradually worse. Any tracking or other alignment problems would cause the car to pull to either side and balancing would cause a wobble at higher speeds than this. I would get it looked at pronto, if it's a tyre going out of shape it'll go bang pretty soon.

URGENT! - PCD 4x98 - will it fit??
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to chrishill's topic in Engine Bay
No need to 'force' them to fit. Any decent alloy wheel dealer will be able to supply you some wobble bolts. These fit using a 'floating' washer instead of a fixed taper seat and have 1mm movement in each bolt so the 2mm difference in pcd is no problem. Most alloy wheel stockists only keep the 4/100 pcd now and fit them to Fiat/Alfa (4/98pcd) using these bolts. As long as the centre bore fits the hub perfectly or can be made to fit the hub by using spigot rings then there's no problem. -
That was my mate with the 306. He appears to have a bit of a bee in his bonnet. Must remember to log this PC off in future. :D

My mate at work has got a 306 Rallye and it is such an even match for my VR6 down any road it's embarassing. Apparently it's the same drivetrain as a Gti-6 but with none of the luxuries so it's lighter. I've driven it and it goes like stink but you have to wind the windows up by hand. I'd never want to own one but I'd never get into a race with one! :?

I had an incurable wobble that turned out to be one of the front brake discs not sitting flush against the hub. We removed the discs, cleaned up the hubs and the back of the discs and it was cured. (This was after I'd replaced ball joints, track rod ends, balanced the wheels twice etc..) Generally if you feel the vibration through the steering wheel it's the front wheels at fault. If you feel it through the whole car it's the rears. :D

Grimsby. It rains a lot but its not far from Cleethorpes.

It's just a plastic tube that pushes onto the metal dipstick tube. A couple of quid from German and Swedish and a couple of minutes to fit. :D

I had a set on my 16 valver and they rode better than the original normal height springs! Nobody believes me but it's true, honest. :D
-
There's a bloke round our way who offers a 'Mileage correction service'. He'll reset any digital mileometer to whatever mileage you want for fifty quid! All sounds a bit dodgy to me :D

RAMS, I seem to remember we took the outlet pipe off the pump and (with the car jacked up) turned the steering wheel lock to lock until the resevoir was empty then kept topping up the resevoir until the pump was pumping green fluid out of it. We checked it again a week later and did it again cos the fluid was brown, it's been fine since. If you've got a Haynes manual for your birds Golf then the procedure is in there to follow. Have you priced up the metal pipes at VW? Mine were corroded (on my old 16valve) and had to be replaced for an MOT. They were about £300 I think so I got some made up at a local hydraulics company for about £80. :D Good luck mate. :D

Dealer in Scunthorpe keeps the VW emblem for the rear on the shelf so I'd assume other dealers will too? It's the same part fitted to Golfs etc. They sent me one by mistake when I ordered a new chrome 'Corrado' badge. Should be less than a tenner from dealers. I was surprised that the Corrado badge was only about 12 quid and came next day. :D
-
Could it be that it's suitable for VW auto gearboxes but not for VW power steering? :? I just know that when i refilled my system with it after changing the metal pipes the steering was very heavy and the power assistance failed completely while I was approaching a roundabout at about 90mph and I filled my pants. A certain motor factor admitted they'd supplied the wrong fluid and supplied me a new pump free. :D If you look at the two fluids together then it's obvious that the dexron is much thicker consistency. The green stuff is like water in comparison. :D

Have you tried GPC?

Why does nobody fit Sebring exhausts? I've always found them to be wonderful quality. Made in Germany I think. Bloody expensive, mind :D

I'll third that or whatever, I've got two of my cars insured with them and I've never had a problem with them. Recently insured my Beetle with them, bigger engine, big carb, lowered, uprated brakes, Porsche wheels. Hardly anything left standard on it, agreed the value at £4000 and they charged me £156.00 :D Unbelievable.

I bought 2 litres and used about 1.5 by the time I'd finished flushing the red stuff out of it. RAMS, my current VR6 had red fluid in it when I got it and my pump was making strange noises but it wasn't squealing. Have you checked the belt is tight? I was told that a new pump would cope better with red fluid than a worn pump. Apparently the red fluid is much thicker than the green stuff and wrecks the seals in double quick time. I would drain the red stuff out asap and flush it through with the green and the pump should be okay. :D

It just so happens that I've got a thing for birds with mental problems. Would you mind, awfully, giving her my phone number? :D 8)

Power steering fluid. Make sure you only put the green stuff in. Most cars use auto transmission fluid which is red but if you put this in a VW it doesn't do the pump or rack any good. Trust me I've done it and it cost me a fortune. I got my green fluid from German and Swedish, called M6162 fluid. VW dealers'll have it on the shelf too I would imagine. 8)

What mileage is your Corrado showing?
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to Bally's topic in General Car Chat
My 16 valve had just over 165000 when I sold her and still wasn't using any oil or water. I know a lad in Telford who's got over 190000 on his 16 valve with no problems. :D Anybody got over the magical 200000? -
Oh my giddy aunt! Campaign interior! The holy grail. Phhwoooaaarrr!!

Had a Snooper S6 for about six months now and it's superb for fixed cameras. I chose the S6 over the Origin bluei because the display is much clearer (but still not wonderful.) I use it with a Bel990i to detect the mobile cameras and haven't been caught out yet. The Snooper S6 is also available with an optional radar detector for a bit more wonga.

How long have you owned your corrado?
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. replied to Bally's topic in General Car Chat
Corrados for four years and a month. VR6 for 10 months. Stll smiling :D -
I had a bit of a tussle with my mates Golf VR6 down a lovely selection of twisty A-roads the other night and it was splendid. Surprisingly evenly matched motors. He was having a bit of a game keeping up round the bends and looked to be leaning quite a bit in my rear view mirror. If I'd been the one behind I'd say that I would have easily kept with him but would've had a bit of a game trying to get past. :D
