I'd always used Mintex 1144s (C-Tech) pads with standard disks until I got my Brembo brake conversion. I found that the C-tech pads with genuine disks, DOT5.1 fluid and braded hoses made for a superb brake setup, although the mintex pads don't half shed some dust onto your wheels... :|

my new Corrado has a late bonnet on an early car, with early lights so I can guarantee that it fits properly! I've also just compared the 2 front bumpers I have, and they're exactly the same width. (one early, one late g60)

Cheers! J-DUB will be back at some point... there's so little damage that it'd be criminal not to put her back on the road... I've decided that the only way to do it is with a complete engine transplant though, so expect something a little different when J-DUB does make a come back.... ;) Mu-ha-ha-ha-ha!!! It's sat outside looking all sweet and innocent... little does it know the plans I have for it...

I'm not sure if this one's male or female... I normally call my cars names made from the numberplates, but the only thing I can get out of this one is Hughie (H U YY ;) ) Anyway, it may be getting a different plate on it soon, so naming will come later... 8)

quikstu, J-DUB was involved in an accident and is now a CAT C write off... I haven't got time to fix her and get her re-assessed to make her road legal again at the moment (new passenger front wing and suspension required) so I'll swap the interesting bits over onto the new car and then do something different to J-DUB once I get some spare time/cash... 8)

Gallery thread for my new Pearl Grey G60 is HERE 8)

108C is about average running temp for a standard G60/VR6... The thermostats on most after market oil coolers only open at 90C, so I'm not sure how you're running at 82C... :|

Welcome to the gallery and history of my new (as yet nameless) Pearl Grey '91 G60 (H-YYU) So far it's pretty standard, but that's all gonna change over the next couple of months which is what this thread is all about! ;) 8) It's a 1991 (07-91 registered) HPI clear, Corrado G60 in Pearl Grey with 151,000 miles, lots of history and 4 previous owners... It's got the smaller (12ish UK Gallons) petrol tank and no ABS to go wrong! ;) At the time I picked it up it's got the following mods (Well, these are what I've found so far! ;) ) Jabba Stage4 supercharger rebuild (soon to be visiting G-werks ;) ) FULL milltek stainless system and de-cat pipe (Fitted by Jabba) Black tinted (painted) rear lights Red rear VW badge Black leather interior Gold battery terminals with LOTS of extra wiring which I'm yet to investigate! (car has apparently been used for an ICE demo car, and has all sorts of odd wires, brackets and mounts in the boot under the carpet! :| ) Dynamat covering in all sorts of places Stealth shelf with 6x9 speakers Non-standard front door pods with Kenwood speakers... Kenwood head unit 3 spoke Black leather steering wheel (made by OBA?!? ) MAS Italy 17" 10 spoke wheels Clear side repeaters Later spec front grill Later spec bonnet Remote start, CAT1 alarm/immobiliser Body wise, it's got a couple of parking/trolley dents, a couple of stone chips and a slight rust patch by the passenger side repeater, but nothing too serious... 8) Oh, and the sunroof tilts but doesn't slide... Looks like another moon roof conversion is in my near future!   I've got a hell of a lot planned for this car, so keep watching as things should move pretty quickly with this project as most of it will just be swapping bits from J-DUB over onto this car... ;) 8) These are the pics from the for sale advert which was on this forum as I've not taken any myself so far...

wasn't the 2.4 the V5 engine? I didn't think that Ford had a compact V6 engine like VWs VR6... :|
-
post up a pic of the alarm fob... someone here will probably be able to tell you the make from that... 8)

thanks Phat, glad it wasn't just me that did that then! 8)

 I know that feeling well Paul... Just after I fitted the leather to J-DUB I accidentally fired off the extinguisher that used to live under the rear arm rest... I can catagorically state that it's a REALLY dumb idea setting off a powder extinguisher in a confined space...   Glad you're OK and there's no real damage caused... 8)

G60 judders on pull away and always crunches third gear
Henny replied to g60Dazzaman's topic in Drivetrain
also have a good look at the pipe which feeds the slave cylinder (the one with the coil of pipe in it) as I've seen a few of these which have either sprung a leak or gone porus in the last couple of months... :| -
Have a word with Vince down at Stealth. He's the Guru on VAG boxes and charges about £500 for a full rebuild... 8) It's difficult to do a box at home due to some of the specialised tools you need to get it apart/back together again... Gearboxes are about the only bit on a car I won't strip apart and try to fix 'cos they scare me... :|

the red ATF stuff can cause problems due to it being too thick and therefor damaging the internal seals due to overpressuring the system... IIRC it also can eat the seals as they're not designed for that fluid... :|
-
yup, I'm in at that... Full smoked set for me please... 8)

OldYeller, where are you from? I recognise that bug... 8) (I used to work at a Beetle specialists and so do most of the big shows...)
-
G60Jet, yup, spot on mate! 8) Sounds like you've got either a loose plug or a damaged wire VR6_Pete... The wires normally get damaged by the sensor itself or as the wires come through the chassis leg and into the enginebay... ;)

Oettinger SLC, If you put a boost gauge take off there and then something goes wrong with the gauge or the pipework to it, you run the risk of melting your pistons due to underfuelling! :| It may be easy to plumb it in there, but it sure ain't safe... Your best bet is to tap into the pipe at the back of the instrument cluster as if that leaks, you're not gonna mess up the fuelling as much and risk damage to your engine... (ANY vacuum leak on a G60 will mess up the fuelling/timing)
-
why do I have a sudden urge to have fish chips and mushy peas for lunch today?!? ;) Not my taste in colour though... :|
-
it depends on which resistance protocol your new gauge works on. Each manufacturer has a different range of resistances which their dials work on. If the gauge you have is VDO, (or works on the VDO range) then it'll work properly with the original sender. If it's not, then you'll get all sorts of weird and wacky readings off the new gauge... :|
-
you won't notice it "working"... All it's supposed to do is to pulse the brakes on the side where the wheel is spinning below about 10mph so that the power HAS to go to the wheel which isn't spinning... In reality, it's not quick enough or powerful enough to work with any great success... :|
-
EDL = crap, don't worry about it... ;) It's not dangerous, it's just not very good... Welcome to The Forum by the way... 8)
-
ah, Feck Gav, that's bad news... :| Hope all goes well with the insurance... 8)

The notch on the pulley on the belts side of the engine is TDC (0degrees) there's also a notch on the FLYWHEEL (which is where you should be shining the timing light as it's more accurate) which is 6degrees as well as the 0 degree marker.
