dunno, my new C has the same problem (big hole instead of [technical name] springy thingy [/technical name] ) I hadn't realised just how much use that springy thingy actually IS... :|

Hello and Welcome to The Forum... Nice site you have there 8)
-
think the nuts are part 22 on that diagram... 8)
-
still watching avidly and getting some mad ideas for J-DUB's next incarnation... ;)  Keep going Paul, not far off now by the sounds of things... 8)
-
yes yes try VW, they sell it off a reel, so make sure you get MORE than 100cm so you can trim it to exactly 100cm and not let the parts monkey sell you 95cms...
-
VW glued 'em on for some unknown reason... The plastic bit is just a crud guard and stops bits getting into the dizzy if the cap breaks up... I'm pretty sure that it's the same size as the ones off most VW dizzys so one can be had from a scrappy pretty easily... 8)

This is a nice car... it's had all the major work done to it that it'll need and, as long as it was done properly, should be in better condition than a 70K mile Corrado IMHO... 8)
-
your rear calipers could be sticking... It's worth having a look to make sure that the cams are turning all the way back to the stops properly when the handbrake is released and cleaning 'em up if they're not to try and stop 'em seizing up completely.... :|
-
hybrid, and obviously nowhere without street lights too... next mod is one of Gav's headlamp looms to be fitted tonight... 8)
-
yup, he's right though... VW huh? bunch of weirdos... ;)

benji16v, don't forget all the little bolts which hold the spoiler on... :|
-
broken switch then mate... :|
-
Yup, a faulty/loose/crappy main earth will cause the starter to try to earth through anything it can, including an ECU...

Can anyone help with this (insurance payouts)

Well, it works! Just got a letter from Flux and the cheque for £3500 will be in the post soon! :D That's paid for my new C and will give me a little bit to get it 100% before I start going mad swapping bits over from J-DUB and doing odd things to the rest of J-DUB... ;)  -
sounds to me like you have a faulty switch... is the rear wiper going intermittently, or constantly with the spray going too?

If you have a 1.8 16V or G60, then, yes, they are...

'ello chu805, Welcome to The Forum... 8) I don't think it's that it's a Golf that's the problem, I think it's that you've got an interesting problem that is quite specific and not all that common a type of fault... :| I'm a little confused as to the bit about the ECU being blown as a 1.8 16V 1990 Golf should be a K-Jetronic injection system on a KR block and so shouldn't have an ECU as such... :| Personally, I'd do these 3 things in order... 1) check the crankshaft bolt which holds the bottom cambelt pulley onto the crank. If this comes loose (which it's known to do on these cars) then it'll throw your timing out by a mile, eat through the woodruff key and eventually cause the crank to turn over without moving the cambelt... It's easy enough to check, and pretty simple to cure if you catch it before it destroys the woodruff key completely. 2) check the hall sender in the distributor is OK. 3) check all of the vacuum hoses are in good condition and are all connected properly (especially the ones around the air box) as these can cause the timing to go out, but not normally by 30 degrees... :| 4) check that there's no oil inside the internals of the distributor... They're known for leaking and that screws up the signals that the dizzy makes and throws the timing out by a mile. Hope this helps... 8)

Ow... not a good sign... :| Anyway, hope it all gets sorted out for you... 8)

G60Dub, the leather was already in it... I've not swapped anything other than the lupo wipers over yet (new set on order too! ;) ) hybrid, Brembos aren't on, but there's a nice new set of Mintex 1144s on the front... there wasn't much left of the old pads by the time I got her home (read as, they were down INTO the metal backing! :| ) Oh, and I've been looking at all sorts of plates... G60 ***, G6 o**, H***GG0, H*** DUB etc etc etc... just can't quite justify the £250 + at the moment as I'm saving for a 3 week holiday to New Zealand with my missus this summer... :? Banana Man, Aiming to get everything swapped over once the weather sorts itself out a little... need to sell 2 of my 4 cars first though so I've got some room to work on her! :| Anyone want a H plate Golf Driver (£300) or a stripped MKI GTI 16V (fully in bits!) ?!?  Oh, and I did the first mod to it last night... It's now supporting Lupo GTI wipers so I can see in the rain... Hybrid? How the hell did you drive it with those wipers?!? :|

Andi, yup, I'm with you there 100%... give your cars a good wiring loom upgrade, some decent (legal wattage!) bulbs and clean, fresh reflectors and you'll have the lights the Corrado should have had from the factory... 8)
-
yeah, me too... Roof liner was out to fit the moonroof on J-DUB (currently searching for one for the Grey one too! ;) ) so it seemed the perfect time to clean it... I used the autoglym upholstery cleaner too and it came up lovely... 8)

yup, I'm going through exactly the same thing with Flux at the moment... their inital offer was a smidgen over 2K for my G60, which I told them (in writing!) was insulting... I ended up sending them a letter which was over an inch thick which included print outs from this forum, copies of magazine articles with my car in it, print outs of autotrader adverts and adverts from this forum, and ALL of the major receipts for work I'd done/parts I'd bought etc, as well as the rolling road print outs, timing slips from the Pod, and photos from Curburough and lots of other shows too.... You really need to drill it into them that prices of Corrados bear NO resemblance to those in the glasses guide (which should, IMHO, be banned from ALL insurance places... ) Write 'em a nice letter telling 'em where to stick that offer (nicely of course! ) and include a shed load of bits of info as I have mentioned and you'll get a much better offer out of 'em... 8) Good luck! -
for that kinda milage I'd go with the Golf MKII too... purely on price... You can pick up excellent condition golf 16Vs for not much cash at all, and then the running costs of a Golf are peanuts compared with Corrado running costs... Ker-plink... my 2p

Has it definately hydraulic'd, or has the electrics just gotten soggy and given up? A mate of mine bought an Audi A6 estate (top of the line jobbie) which HAD hydraulic'd and showed me the internals of the engine... not pretty... :| Hope you get it sorted out with the minimum of fuss... 8)
