  1. Kev, you just reminded me that my MKI 16V with the weber was running an Audi WUR which got around that problem... 8)
  2. Red=Fast, they're taking the p!ss mate... the sump (oil pan) over here is under £30, the gasket is under £10 and the bolts can be re-used... :| need to torque 'em up to 11Lb/Ft though to make sure you don't get a leak... I replaced all of mine with stainless steel ones so I don't have any problems in the future! ;) It's not the easiest of jobs to do 'cos you're working above your head all the time, but it's do-able on a trolley jack with basic tools... you WILL need a 1/4 inch drive socket set (and a hammer!) though else you'll end up stripping the threads on the bolts in the gearbox bell housing area! The MKII (and even 1.8 mki/rabbit!) pans will fit, as long as they are 1.8, even the 16V one would do 'cos there's no difference... 8)
  3. nope, the ones I had were too dark to see much, and the car's in my garage with the damaged side next to the wall (so I could get out of the drivers side door!) I'm trying to get hold of a guy who stopped to see if anyone was hurt and then took a load of photos to get a copy of his photos as it was still light when he took them... It doesn't look much, it's only knocked the bumper off (the plastic has come off the metalwork 'cos I'd not received the clips from VAG to hold it on properly yet, so it's not damaged it!), dented the front passenger wing and damaged the front wheel and suspension on the passenger side...
  4. 1) they're all at least 9 years old now, so you'll struggle to get something properly reliable... the 16Vs are pretty rock solid though... 2) some of the parts are eye-wateringly expensive, but again, the 16V has the least of these parts 'cos the engines were used in bulk in other VAG cars too, so second hand spares/after market bits are easier to come by.... 3) good luck.... milage is largely irrelevant on these cars (unless it's mega low!)... It's how the car's been looked after that's more important... 4) obviously... ;) 5) again, good luck, most cars will have had aftermarket bits used on 'em now as some of the dealer prices are just silly... this doesn't mean that it'll affect your insurance though, and also doesn't mean that the parts will be of a lesser quality either... 6) obviously! 8) 7) there's not a lot in it speed and accelleration wise... the 1.8 was upgraded to a 2.0 to compensate for all of the emission stuff and Cat that had to be put onto the car to get it through the newer regulations and also to make it run on unleaded from standard... the 2.0 will be a newer car so would probably be a better bet, although for the money you want to spend, the extra new-ness will take a large chunk of the 4K... 8) fair enough... the insurance would also hurt you too... 9) good luck! 8) 10) the only "higher specs" were leather or Riccaro seats... just about all except the very early 16Vs and the 8Vs had the full electric pack... 11) they all have the active spoiler... Hope this helps... 8) Oh, and Welcome to The Forum! 8)
  5. nah! Weller 8 spokes were COOL! 8)
  6. That's exactly why I had her taken back to my house rather than to the storage yard they wanted to put her in... I've heard too many horror stories about the yard in question with people getting bits off the cars being stored for repair like they were in a general scrap yard.... I dread to think how quickly my Brembos, wheels, DVD, Stereo, Leather etc etc etc would have "gone missing"... Feck that, she's in my nice, warm, alarmed garage with a trickle charger making sure she's all topped up, the tracker armed and the alarm on... anyone tries anything, they get deafened AND I get a text message to let me know! ;) There's a couple of J-DUBs around the Salford Quays area too... one's a very nice MKII Golf GTI whose driver always waves when I'm in mine... DUB is a Leeds area plate, so there's loads of 'em out there... ;) 8) J666DUB is out and about there too, 'cos I quite fancied getting that one for mine!
  7. I've got a photo of John's twin exit exhaust at home somewhere... I'll dig it out later, but it looks great! 8)

    water leak?

yes. It is VERY common... so much so there's a sticky thread about where the water leaks in to corrados and how to fix it at the top of the problems section... I'll lock this thread up as there's so many about leaks already...
  9. Timo., nah, he's just a jammy get who gets some bloody good bargains... ;)
  10. I wish, but she's STILL sat in my garage... fecking insurance people haven't even been out to see her yet and I'm STILL stuck with a fecking Punto hire car... :? I WANT MY 'RADO BACK!!! (thanks for the kind words though... 8) )
  11. oooh, nice one Paul.... 8) Think an R32 Rado will be my next conversion when I finally get bored with J-Dub... (or she gets written off... :? )
  12. the bolt is just a 12 sided bolt, most good normal socket sets will fit it with no problems... DO NOT attempt to turn the engine over with this bolt though... it's a stretch bolt and could snap off if you try and turn it with any force! :| Best way is to put the car in gear and push it to see if the crank turns... ;)
  13. the heads on the screws will almost certainly be in a bit of a state, make sure you soak 'em in WD40 or Plusgas before even thinking about undoing 'em and use a screwdriver which fits 'em properly else you'll end up having to drill the heads off... (yes, that IS the voice of bitter experience! )
  14. the annoying squeek sounds horribly like the P/S/water pump idler pulley on a 1.8 16V... It's a free-wheeling pulley which is attached to the waterpump pulley and has a nasty copper bush style bearing in it which wears out... It's a crap design and is quite expensive to replace too... :( If I get chance, I'll dig out a pic from Etka and post it up... When waterpumps go, they don't tend to squeal, they just throw water everywhere... :|

    Front end probs

that's the lower subframe crossmember... it's the one that goes onto the back of the bumper if I'm thinking of the same panel as you... This holds the radiator up and the bolts also support the actual engine subframe which holds the engine and gearbox up at the front... removing it's not difficult, you just need to be careful to prop the engine up with a jack so it doesn't fall on your head! You mean these bits? part number is 535-199-171 D for early cars, G for all later models I'm pretty sure it's the same as MKII Golf and some other VAG cars... have a word with PhatVR6 as I think he's got a Seat Toledo one on his which he got cheap from a scrappy and it fitted with no problems... 8)
  16. The single butterfly just means that you have to be more careful with how much you press the loud pedal... It CAN'T change the fuel economy if you drive it the same way you used to, as at the end of the day, it's still a butterfly which opens and lets air through into the engine, so can return the same fuel economy as the old twin butterfly if used properly... The bit which WILL make the difference is when you do boot it, it WILL drink fuel like an alcoholic in a free lock-in... The extra air getting in will cause more fuel to be used too, hence the lower economy, but much better performance... 8) The smaller butterfly has nothing to do with economy, it's about ease of driving... you'll find that for the first couple of weeks your car feels completely different to drive at slower speeds and may seem to be a little jerky as you get used to the instant-ness (is that actually a word?!?) of the throttle, but once you get used to it, you'll be getting similar (if not identical) consumption around town and HUGE grins when giving it some! 8)
  17. yup, actual photos with map overlayed where your cursor is... which then isn't picked up when you press printscreen! ;) Multimap RULES! 8) That should shut the insurance people up when they get those instead of a sh!tty sketch! 8)
  18. that's how I've been treating J-DUB since the rebuild Gav.... does wonders for her too... having since stripped the engine again and looked at the wear and bedding in of the rings, I can say that it was wonderfully bedded in, but not worn and had used less than 1/4 litre of oil in 2000miles of being thrashed senseless! 8)
  19. something like that.... I could tell you what, but she'd kill me (the G/F, not J-DUB! ;) ) It works both ways though, I had to get the approval of her Black Labrador before getting involved...
  20. Phil K, RS bumper had already been sold and an original one put back on... but you are right that she'll be better than before as the respray was long overdue in my eyes... ;)
  21. ah, bugger, there goes that joke then... The pics thing still goes though! ;)
  22. Until 2 months ago, I'd have agreed, but now I'd say you just need to find the right girl who'll put up with, and fall in love with, the Corrado almost as much as you! :D 8)

    Door Pins

I'm pretty certain that these are OLD aftermarket Beetle ones and were probably being sold for quite a bit of cash... at least, the last time I saw a set they were on a '62 Beetle... :|
