  1. Get a VR6 clutch from GSF and that'll easily take 200BHP (it's taking 250ish in mine! ) and is actually slightly cheaper than the G60 clutch! :| 8)
  2. Yup, they're the electronic ones then... in which case, the speed sender is on the gearbox NOT on the back of the clocks, so I have no idea how swapping the clocks has solved either the spoiler or cruise problems... :|
  3. if your fan is coming on, then I'd say your temp gauge is shafted... Connect the two pins in the black temp sender's wiring with the ignition on and see where the gauge points to... ;)
  4. dead simple job... very similar to doing it on a G60, only no boost hoses to get in the way! Same as a 2.0 8V and 2.0 16V too! disconnect the battery put a jack under the front of the sump with a block of wood on top of it and jack up until the engine is about to lift slightly... undo the cables on the starter motor (2 under the 13mm nut, one on a spade terminal) undo the 2 VERY long bolts which hold the motor on and also bolt into the front engine mount (hence the jack! ;) ) remove the bolts, and gently tap the starter with a hammer to crack off the corrosion seal between it and the gearbox flange. pull the starter motor out away from the engine and remove. Re-fitting is the reverse procedure, only will probably involve a bit more swearing as you try and line up the bolts into the front engine mount bracket... :| No idea what the torques should be for the bolts though... I'm at work, so haven't got any info like that kicking about at the moment... Good luck! 8)
  5. IIRC, it works out at just over 300% increase in total butterfly area from the (combined) original twin butterflies...
  6. yeah, mine jumps about quite a bit (yes Mike, it's getting new uprated mounts soon... ) even though the mounts were new VAG ones, they simply couldn't handle the engine anymore...
  7. Holiday? Wot's one of those? I book more time off work to work on my Corrado and go to shows than any other reason... My girlfriend is attempting to educate me in the way of the Holiday, but seems to be falling for the Corrado too...
  8. I'd go with engine mounts more than clutch/gearbox... The G60 box is actually pretty strong and doesn't tend to fail in this manner... when the diff goes it simply blows a hole in the casing and stops working in most cases! The springs on the clutch plate aren't for the driver's comfort, they're for assisting the mechanical components in relieving the instant strains applied when the clutch bites... Quick way to tell is to get a friend to get the car upto biting point with the handbrake on while you watch what the engine does with the bonnet open... any more than about half an inch of movement in any single direction indicates dead mounts... Do it in both 1st and reverse gears so you can also check rear mounts... ;)
  9. JBL 6x4s used to fit straight in with no problems... until they started putting HUUUUAAAAGGGGEEEE magnets on 'em... :?
  10. there's a second bolt behind which hold the P/S pump on... it's at the bottom and goes in from the gearbox side... You'll have to search for it as it's quite well hidden, but you'll find it! ;)
  11. do you have the mechanical clocks in your car? (ie. is there one or 2 LCD displays on your dash)
  12. The problem is that the boot light switch "leaks"... it allows enough current through to flatten the battery over a few days, but not enough to actually light the bulb (the switch and bulb act as a resistor) Closing yourself in the boot, or taking off the parcel shelf won't help as the bulb may not actually be getting enough to light up... take out the bulb, connect in a multimeter instead which is on your parcel shelf and see if there's any voltage there when the tailgate's shut... if there's any voltage at all, there's a problem with the switch... 8)
  13. Access is under a round cover in the boot... take obvious precautions like dis-connecting the battery and making sure there's no hot objects or naked flames about before going anywhere near the petrol tank though! ;)
  14. yup, that's correct whiteee... Alternator off, alternator/P/S brackets off, water pump off. clean block around seal area. fit new pump, refit other bits, re-fill coolant, drive! 8)
  15. Mmmm, weller 8 spokes... 8) Looked great on Beetles and Vans... ;) Not into Borbet A's on my car, but liked 'em on Daz's... 8)
  16. too hot, I thought they had 7 seats?!? ;) g-man, ;)
  17. have you checked the level since you changed it? It's possible the gearbox drive flange seals have gone and it's leaked a load of oil into you inner CV gators... It's worth checking as if this has happened and the gator splits, you loose ALL of the oil in your gearbox which is NOT good... :|
  18. coolrado, some of the early Corrados didn't get it, but it's just a case of swapping the relay over for a variable one if yours hasn't got it... 8) It was also fitted to quite a few of the late top end MKII Golfs too... both of my MKII GTIs and my Driver had it... 8)
  19. I work as a broadcast engineer at a radio station... I got 'em off one of my suppliers "for evaluation purposes"... ;) I used 220 micro farad capacitors... Details are HERE 8)
  20. I seem to remember reading that someone did a test when I got my first Corrado ('98) on the bigger tanks, and got 72litres in from absolutely empty... The tank is actually a 70 litre tank, not 15 Gallons 'cos it's a metric car, not imperial, which is why the halfway mark is 8 gallons and the marking's don't line up with any scale you can actually understand!
  21. mid tweets, yeah.... just the low end bass removed so they're just making the mid and top end noises they're best suited for... I went a little bit mental with the capacitors though and bought pro audio grade ones which retail at about £8 each! (I didn't pay that though! ;) )
  22. yup, got my Basslink in the boot with JBL 6x4s in the rear and JBL components up front... fills in the rear nicely... I have, however, fitted a pair of capacitors onto the rear speakers to kill off all the bass frequencies so that they can handle the louder volumes that I want them to without just flapping about trying to make bassy sounds while there's a nice sub next to 'em! Makes a nice difference... 8)
  23. change the fuel filter first though... this may cure it totally! 8)
  24. Inifinity do a VERY nice set of 6x4 (yes, that's the correct size for the rear standard speakers) two way speakers... not mega money either, but have a VERY nice sound to 'em for the cash... 8)
