you can get watertraps from hardware stores like B&Q. Basically they're a powder in a box that you put in the damp area and they suck the moisture out of the air around them thus drying things out... I have no idea how effective they'd be in a car with a wet carpet though.... :?

If you can get a set... :? Took me nearly 5 months to get ONE spare to replace a damaged (read as WELL bent!) one for my C and in the end I had to buy a set of 3! (cheers CiaosG60! 8) ) I gotta say though, the OZ Chrono were on my list of replacements if I couldn't find any Borbet Cs... 8)

I guess I could be classified as a certified VW nut... I started messing with cars at a Beetle specialists which made me appreciate the engineering behind them and it's been a progression from there... :) Type2 bay window van, Beetle, MKI GTI 1.6, MKI 1500 auto, MKI GTI 1.8 (which became the 16V I've still got in bits!), Corrado 1.8 16V, MKII GTI 8v, Corrado G60 (J-dub) and MKII 1.6 Driver at the moment due to not having an engine in J-Dub! I've always liked the look of the C and when I left uni I decided I was going to get myself a nice car... Either a MKIII GTI or a 'rado... Test drove a MKIII and was disappointed... Test drove a 'rado and bought it!  For the 3 years after I wrote my first C off I felt that I was missing something, kinda sad I know, but that's how it was until I bought my current G60... 8) I'm now just missing my C a bit 'cos I know she's in my back garden and will be back on the road in a better form than ever soon... 8)

HEATHEN! you ALWAYS have to use a BIG hammer at least once in any job you do... 8) That could just be me though   Sorry  Cheers dazzyvr6. I'll store that little bit of info for if I need to do mine 8) tips and info like that are always useful... I forgot to say, it's a while since I had to do an outer CV and I've never done one on a C... 8) yet...  Good luck Chuck 8)

Nah, you should be able to get your brake peddle mate to hold it tight enough for you to be able to knock the CV off... It's not mega tight, it just needs "persuading"!  dazzyvr6 If you leave it on the car while you're knocking the outer shaft off, I always thought that you were likely to damage the inner joint 'cos it's not designed to take impacts in that direction... :? I could well be wrong on this though, I've just always taken the shaft off to do the outer joints... Inners I do on the car though... 8)

If that front bumper is ABS (plastic) and not fibreglass, then I want one! NOW! It's different without being "In yer face" like some of them are... I love the roofchop on that 'rado, but I really don't like the extended arches and that square looking front bumper... I'd bet it's been done well though! 8)

Hiya Chuck! To undo the outer CV/hub nut, you usually either need an air gun (loads of use for home mechanics huh? ) or a mate in the car pushing on the brake peddle as hard as possible with chocks under the wheels to stop the car going anywhere... Oh, and a sodding enormous long bar to give the leverage you need! If it's the same as a MKII golf then to "drive the outer joint from the driveshaft" you take the whole shaft, grip it tightly and gently "drive" it off the end of the shaft with a BIG hammer and a block of wood... (hit the wood, not the CV so you don't damage the CV joint!) Good luck!

Just out of interest, have you changed your power steering drive belt at any stage? This could cause the squeeking you are talking about if it's worn or just simply not tight enough... :? Sorry if that is a silly question to you, there's no way of knowing a persons tech level until you ask! 8) *EDIT* ooh, you sod, Dr_mat, you just beat me!  Great minds and all that!

2l and 1.8 16V tend to be the same insurance group. It's only the values that mess up the quotes... There's almost nothing in it performance wise between the two 16 valvers... :? 8) Oh, and HI! and welcome to the forum! 8)

Cash value to get another one to the same standard as mine will be when it's finished will be about £12K! It's worth SOOOOOOO much more than that to me though as I'll have done pretty much all of the work myself, specc'd up most of it myself and it's given (and hopefully will continue to give) me more pleasure and fun than the money could ever have done... 8) OK, it's also caused me it's fair share of headaches and heartache, but even that's significantly less than some of my ex-girlfriends!

there's a story behind that, eh, Biggrim?!?

The MPG is fed via a vacuum hose from the engine bay... If this falls off then you'll get mad readings like 99.9... It may also affect the engine's running as well as you'll have a vacuum leak in the system somewhere... :? It's also worth checking all of the ends of the vacuum hoses (thin plastic tubes) as they have a braided rubber connecting pipe on them which sometimes goes porus and so lets the vacuum leak...

erh-hum, That's HENNY!

have a look in the scuttle tray (the bit under the bonnet where the windscreen wiper motor lives). In the driver's corner there's a drain which tends to get silted up with leaves and general road gunk. This causes rain water to build up in the tray and escape any way it can.... Usually around the gromets and into the driver's footwell... :? Worth checking... 8)

Yup, I agree totally, what I was saying is that the gearing can also be too short and make you run out of revs way to quickly meaning you've got to rev the hell out of the engine to do anything over 20mph! I'm of the same school of thought about the top end too, that's why I fitted the 1.6 box to the 1.8 16V engine in my MKI... 145BHP at the wheels (dyno to proove!) in a car weighing just over half a ton meant 0-60 was around 5 seconds! Made a lot of people jump when it just "disappeared" from the lights... Pulling off in 5th was also quite a good giggle too, but only after I put in the heavy duty clutch!

You mean a Tractor ??....   Shhhhh! you're not supposed to tell everyone! 8)

This may be true in a standard car with the standard engine, but in an engine transplant'd car with an odd ball 'box it doesn't always hold true... In my MKI golf 16V I used a 1.6 gearbox... You could accelerate to redline in 5th and bounce it off the revlimiter which meant that the max speed was about 130mph.... :? With a different gear setup she'd have gone a lot faster on top end, but the acceleration would have been slower and she'd not have hit the limiter... Saying that, it was always quite good fun taking the car off both the end of the rev counter AND the speedo   (she had MKI clocks still, so 120mph and 7K rpm clocks!)

In Tenerife (south) air port's carpark there's a rather neglected Aqua Blue 'rado (4stud wheels)... Someone's had the handles, badges and numberplates off it along with a few other bits and bobs... It's a real shame 'cos the car looks pretty straight apart from that... :? Anyone want to go and rescue it, or claim ownership?!?

A kid at a local school had a bet with his mates that his dad would let him bring his new Lambo to school on his 16th birthday with him driving... He got the p!$$ taken out of him for a few days until his birthday when, sure enough, he turns up driving a brand new Lamborghini as promised!  Funnily enough it was an "off roader" too and the other kids all shut up for a while...

I've got the Supersport kit from Venom and I've nothing but praise for them... Nice ride, good looking, well made and all at a good price too... 8)

The ignition switches on nearly all VWs are a pile of poo... I've had to change mine and now know of countless others here who've had to do the same... I put a guide up somewhere on the site that details how to change the switch, there's also a guide on how to "hotwire" the switch to test if it is the switch that's failed... From what you've described, especially with being able to start it from the battery -> solenoid, I'd lay odds on it being the switch... Good news is that every stealer I've spoken to keeps 'em in stock for under £20 and they only take about an hour to change if you can use a screwdriver... :D See here for guide on how to change the switch: http://corrado.atx-hosting.co.uk/viewto ... highlight= And here for the "hotwire" tester... http://corrado.atx-hosting.co.uk/viewto ... highlight= Good luck! 8)

NOS?!? :? Sheesh, mine's a 20K mile per year daily driver! (or at least it will be when I put her back together  ) If you don't use your NOS then I'd like to see what we could do down the strip though... 8) :D I've not got all of the parts together yet... I'm still waiting on my money to clear for all of the bits other than the block work so I can work out exactly how much I've got to play with... I'm in no rush, but I really do miss driving her... :(

Oooh, oooh, oooh, I forgot! I went on a tank driving and 4x4 course for my 21st with my Dad (50th) and sister (30th)... Anyone know what the new price is on a flipping great tank?!? Gotta be in the high £100,000s hasn't it?!? Jim, have a look for RedLetter days, they do some really good stuff, and if the tank/4x4 day I had was anything to go by, it was really well organised and a huge laugh as well as a great experience... 8) :D

Fun innit?!? Damn, I miss my 'rado... :( not much longer to wait though :D

For which engine?!?
