  1. Well ive refitted the valves and topped up the coolant with some lovely G12 plus. Problem is the heaters are still throwing out cold air. At the minute im hoping its due to the recent coolant flush, and that the coolant system is working air pockets out, as this happened last time i changed the coolant over. However, whilst i was bleeding the system i checked the pipes leading into and out of the bypass valves. The pipes leading into the valves, and the smaller pipe between the two valves was hot, but the pipes leading from the valves through the bulk head were not. Knackered valves?
  2. Replied to your PM fella. Thanks v much for the help. I'll get them refitted and some new coolant in once i can see my car through the snow again
  3. Where has it gone?!? I found it a while ago and now ive lost it again :mad2:
  4. suck on them  if you put a finger over the small bore by-pass connection on each, then each one should only blow/suck air through the path with the arrow marked, i.e. in on one and out on the other, block off the out side on either and the small bore exit should blow the air out if left open. Well the black plastic one does as explained, but the metal one does not. The metal one lets me suck/blow through any combination of holes. I can actually hear the valve open and close on the plastic one, but the metal one is letting a small amount of air through in various different way. Bugger
  5. So they're probably not even needed? Well mine are soaking away now, i'll see how they cope with the cold for the rest of the week once fitted 2moz
  6. Well it was -7 this morning, so possible. I've got the valves off and a whole load of brown gunk piled out when I cleaned them. Now, before I soak them, is there anything I can do to check if they're working correctly?
  7. Well the heater worked fine on the way home, so i'd assume that they froze solid over night. I'll take them off and clean them up anyway to see if they behave any better over the coming weeks. Thanks v much for the help 8)
  8. I'll have a gander. Don't suppose anyone has an engine bay pic they can use to point the valve out? I've gotta look over my lunch break so wanna find it sharpish cheers
  9. This morning my heaters threw out freezing cold air, even when the oil hit 100c the air was luke warm at best. Can't really live with this as we've been forecast sub zero temps for the next fortnight. What's the crack then?
  10. Now then. My wipers are pants, but i dont want the hassle and expense of TT/Lupo conversion, is there a cheaper alternative? Im i likely to see an improvement by simply buying some new blades? Ive also heard that people have used a dremel on the plastic that the spring presses against to allow the spring to clamp the wipers harder against the windscreen, if that makes any sense at all to anywone  Cheers
  11. Any of these still available? I DEFINATELY want the 3 relay set please
  12. Burst water pipe did me good and proper whilst stuck in traffic on the M1
  13. Fan switch replaced Coolant flush Oil replacement SORTED
  14. I would be interested if the price is right, would need to be cheaper than an aftermarket item for me
  15. Anyone else ever had this problem? This cold damp weather is actually causing my steering wheel to malt in my hand, clearly time for a new one, but just wondered if this was a common problem?
  16. I was going to have a go myself, but ive come to the conclusion that theres far too many variables in the coolant and oil system, so its booked in at a VW specialist on Thursday, fingers crossed it'll be something simple
  17. Question, if i were to simply replace the oil pump what is the likelihood of this solving the issue? Its just that if i can avoid having to mess around with a garage then i will, as i could replace the pump myself in a few hours, and its due for an oil and filter swap anyway. I understand that the water temps are high, and im going to be looking at the switch on the rad to try and solve this too.
  18. Well I've left the C at home today, hopefully getting it looked at over the weekend
  19. Fan kicks in at 100. Again that's from stop/start town driving, it's not running at that temp when I'm cruising down dual carriageways, on a run it's very well behaved, coolant around 80, oil around 100
  20. Coolant temps are pretty normal, around 100-110, but then the fan kicks in. Looks like I need to get my engine man to take a look, just what I need before crimbo. If it turns out to be something big or expensive I think that might do it for me, I've been slowly losing patience with it and something else big will push me over the edge
  21. It generally gets that hot when driving through town, stop/start/traffic jams, its usually around 110 when driving normally. Unfortunately i cant really afford to get it into a garage until after crimbo so i guess i'll just have to avoid this kind of driving, it does sound quite rattly when i start it up. As for damaging the engine, i had it rebuilt around 12k ago, so if it goes again i think i'll be throwing in the towel with C's
  22. This really boils my blood when it comes to insurance. WHY, WHY, WHY should you lose out here? Someone else drives into you, and you lose a few grand and a car out of the deal, why?!?! I believe that if someone hits your car then their insurance should give you enough money to replace it. Ive spent over £4k on my car and i know i'd get offered less than £500 if someone hit me, its bloody stupid. The worse thing of all is that she'll probably pay a few hundred excess and be given a few grand to replace her pug. Sickens me, the entire system is flawed. THEY smashed YOUR car, THEY should REPLACE the car. What good is £365 when £2k's worth of car is missing?!? :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :censored:
  23. When my oil temp hits around 122-124 my oil warning light goes off, but its intermittent, sometimes it'll go off for 10 secs, other times it will remain on, then if i turn the engine off and back on again its fine. Im guessing its a sensor issue. Any ideas?
  24. Im running 25mm adapters, which i imagine doesnt help
  25. My rado has decided to start making a strange noise. When i hit just over 30 i get a distant rumbling/grinding/humming noise. It doesnt happen at lower speeds, it literally just kicks in at 30, increases in pitch and dies off at 40-45ish. I initially thought it could be a gearbox issue, but it occurs in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and when im cruising down hills out of gear (i only did this to test, i dont normally do this). So with this in mind, am i looking at something like a knackered wheel bearing? Ive had a wheel bearing go on it before and it didnt make this sound
