If you think the Corrado is difficult to work on....
skinnyman9000 replied to was8v's topic in General Car Chat
My mate has recently bought an 07 plate TT, the engine bay looks like a nightmare. Having a KR lump in a bay the size of the rado is sooooo easy im comparison. -
Its first MOT cost me around £400, but it passed last time with one advisory, and it passed yesterday, admittedly with a few advisories, but nothing unexpected or expensive. Hopefully taking a trip to Midland VW in a few weeks to get the advisories sorted so i know its all running smoothly. Also a credit to the guys there for setting up my engine, around 10k miles ago i had it rebuild by them, and the first MOT afterwards showed a ppm reading of just 86, yesterday it read 53!

Booya!! That is all.

Excellent stuff, i'll get one bought tomorrow. As for the difficult screw, it wouldnt be a corrado if it was simple to do, everything on these cars is harder than it should be

Firstly i put this here because i didnt know which section to put it in, so mods feel free to move it if necessary. Ok, ive been having some trouble with my car starting, i changed the starter motor this morning but its made no difference (£75 well spent). Now i think its the ignition barrel. If i turn the key as normal it wont start, but if i give it a hard aggressive turn then it fires up, which leads me to believe its likely to be a contact problem within the ignition barrel. Does this sound about right? If so, are the ignition barrels straight forward to swap? And does it have to be a rado specific one? Or can i bag one from a mk2/3 golf? Or maybe even a mk4 so i can have a flip key? Any help appreciated.

The natural stance of the corrado......
skinnyman9000 replied to skinnyman9000's topic in General Car Chat
Haha, i've noticed that about the number plate myself. It was on the car when i bought it and it was in when the previous owner bought it, so no idea what it means to anyone, but i like it. As for the wheels, as poor as it sounds i dont actually know what they are! I bought them on here a few years back because they we going for around £180, then i left them in the garage for 18months and finally put them on last summer. Not a clue what they are but wanted to o down a different route in terms of wheels. All i know is the centre cap says "Votex" and "Designed by F.A.Porsche" -
My starter motor has been on the way out and finally died on Tues, so was removed today to get a new one, however, it looks to be in perfect condition to me, see below: I was expecting the teeth to be knackered, but they look fine to me. So question is, could it just be the solenoid that needs replacing? When i attempt to start the car i cannot hear the solenoid ticking. So, is it possible to get just a solenoid? And if so should i look at just replacing that, or get an entire new unit?

Ah yeah, axel stand fever:

The torque settings on the starter motor bolts, are they massively important? And if so, what are they?
-
Lad at work went to look at a Focus RS at TCS, said he didnt know what he was on about so didnt bother. That has nothing to do with low mileage corrado's, but still
-
He's a specialist dealer. But you're right, he's done well to get that many low mileage examples.

...and the new Golf R32 is... the R20?
skinnyman9000 replied to jazzdevil's topic in General Car Chat
I know this is COMPLETELY different, but dont forget that VW manufactured the veyron with massive losses, so i think in terms of 'improving the company image' etc, why wouldnt it make financial sense to manufacture a balls out car that barely breaks even, yet can have a knock on effect for the rest of the brand? As time passes the only cars that are remembered are the top of the range models, so why not make that as balls out a possible? 99% of non corrado fans always ask "is it the VR6?", the only Capri's people want are the V6 models, the only old mk1's people remember are the GTI's etc etc. Although to be perfectly honest, if i could choose between a 270BHP 4pot, and a 260BHP 6pot, i'd go for the 4 pot. Simply because you get the decent mpg when town driving, and that instant turbo power when needed. -
Is it worth trying to clean up the old one? Or i this generally just a short term fix?
-
Its been on its way out for a while now, and tonight it final went and i had to resort to hitting it with a hammer, so basically i need a new one. Now i've just had a look on GSF and thy do one for £45, or the Bosch ones are £80. Now, are the bosch ones really worth the extra money? Or will a £45 jobbie be fine? Also, how much of a ballache is it to do? and i mean honestly too, should a slightly lazy person be looking at a garage job?

I think alot are getting broken due to the price of repairs vs the value of the car, sometimes breaking it is more profitable than repairing, especially when it'll more than likely break again the following week

2009 will be the year of the corrado!

...and the new Golf R32 is... the R20?
skinnyman9000 replied to jazzdevil's topic in General Car Chat
Pretty sure there is no confirmation from VW about this, the R20 is just what Autoexress THINK might be made. The front bumper is clearly off an audi too. Also, i know its going to be running 270BHP, but low 5 sounds a bit 'over the top' fast to me -
What keeps your enthusiasm for corrado going?
skinnyman9000 replied to Jim Bowen's topic in General Car Chat
My car has a massive list of little jobs that need doin, non of them affect the driving of the car and so they're very unlikely to get sorted. But the fact is, ive spent too much on it to sell it now, and any other car i would want to own i cannot afford yet. Plus it looks awesome in the carpark next to all the mondeo's etc -
Cruising round derby last week i spotted a slammed black caddy, and it got me thinking about how pretty cool they look. I know alot of corrado owners wont 'get it', but i bloody love them. I'd love one matt black and slightly ratty, but on some rather expensive image rims. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.a ... =&nodays=0 Obviously i'd never sell my corrado for one, but i'd love one as a lil side project.

So these aren't for a whicker basket, rusty oil drum and an old spare wheel?
-
Not many 'modern' cars i would replace my C with, even if mine is only a valver. Most cars in my list are just not viable as a daily driver option, for example, i've always had a soft spot for Series 1 RST's, or Skyline R33's, but neither would exactly be ideal for the daily jaunt. Something like a golf R32 would be my choice

£1200 for a G60? Christ my valver must be worth a few hundred by now

Corrado mk2 R36...............
