I feel like next summer i will be facing a similar dilema. Im hoping to sell my rado for a newer car, but im wondering whether breaking it will fetch more money. Once ive removed my after market parts i'll basically have a valver with 130k on the clock, rust spots and knackered paintwork. I think the only saving grace for mine would be the engine rebuild and massive list of replacement parts, but visually its ****

I know the one you mean mate, he works at my place. Ive spotted him leaving a few times but he doesnt seem too bothered Iv'e waved to that one too, was sad when he just looked at me like "who are you?" waste of a corrado imo  Saw a dark blue one coming onto the a52 from raynesway today with an oldish chap driving (oldish being about 50) was in work van so didnt wave Well hopefully he doesnt really know what he's got, so that then when he comes to sell it, BAM, i'll have a VR for peanuts

If you look further into this the only 2 requirements are that you provide a receipt for proof of engine purchase, and have an engineers report to state the engine is in good working order. Now to be honest i cannot see a problem with either of those 2 things. It stop illegal engine selling, and ensures only suitable cars are on the road. If you're a legit person, building a car properly, then there is nothing to worry about, simply a few more hoops to jump through. I think this legislation is mainly to stop chav boy and his dodgy mates from fitting a calibra lump into his corsa in his shed. If you upgrade the rest of the car to the required standard then its all good.

WOW this game looks seriously good! I feel its gone more the way of GT5 though in terms of the feel of the cars, the surroundings etc, definately has a GT5 feel to it. The missus wont be happy, with this and COD being release in quick succession she's going to find her time with me limited! There is a personal problem for me with this game coming out, its going to make me want a DC5 again. GT4 and Forza2 both left me in love with DC5's

Moral of the story. If you want a quickish mid 90's coupe with decent handling and road presence, buy ANYTHING else.

once the cars running do you want to bring it down to mine? im in bham not that far and i'll check it against mine?....then we can both scratch are heads together? Fitted the new alternator tonight and it seems to have solved the problem. I'll see how the car behaves over the weekend, if it carries on acting up i'll let you know mate. Cheers for the offer but fingers crossed its sorted.

Well finally died again last night, called out the AA mainly in the hope they could diagnose the problem. Was 99% sure it was the alternator, got one on order for £97, should be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed it solves the problem. Now have 2 knackered alternators at home though
-
Well the alternator seems to be working fine, and ive had the battery replaced as that was knackered. Now though the battery light is going mad. Doesnt turn on with the rest of the dash lights, and flickers under acceleration. Im guessing this is just a loose wire?

VW never made things easy for us then! G's with late interior/early exterior, and vice versa, same thing with VR's. Would seem that 1991/1992 cars is pot luck what arrangement you end up with!

Should never have gotten rid of the G in the first place. Ive been trying to convince myself to sell the valver for the past year, so far unsuccessful

So, driving along the other day and my radio dies, then rev counter, then the car cuts out. Sounds like the alternator has died. I replaced the alternator yesterday, and got to work ok, then the same happened again on the way home. So ive borrowed a battery, put it on the car and left it running, 20mins later it all cuts out again. So, it cant be the battery. The alternator was replaced with a second hand one, so i have no idea whether or not it is actually working. Im hopefully going to borrow a voltmeter from work to check the voltage when the car is running. But before i can get this done, does anyone have any other ideas? If the alternator turns out to be working then what can be causing this? Without the fault solved i wont be able to make E38 this weekend, so need it sorting sharpish. Ive also noticed a distant whining sound that alters pitch with the engine revs, does this sound like it could be connected? Or just something completely seperate? Any helps is massively appreciated, as im keen to get this sorted, as you can imagine.

Hmmmm, guessing i should just replace the alternator. could do without the £100 expense tho

Let me set the scene. My car/battery has been fine for a while now, but i took it to Midland VW on Friday for some general maintenance, wheels bearings, CV joint, etc, nothing engine/electrical based. When i went to pick the car up the battery was flat, so he jump started it and off i went. I drove the 60miles home with no problems. Around 3hours after i got home i went to pick the missus up from work. Started the car and off i went. 5mins into the journey the battery light starts flashing, 30secs later the radio turns off, 30secs later the rev counter dies, then the car splutters to a halt. I figured the battery was dead, its 4yrs old now. So my dad brought me another battery, stuck it on the car and off i went, no problems. Now ive started the car again this morning, started up fine, but the battery light is flashing again. So, whats goin on?!? Something could be draining the battery, but why all of a sudden? And why would it die whilst im driving, as surely the alternator would be powered it by then? The same thing has happened to 2 different batteries now, and i need it sorting sharpish otherwise i wont be making the E38 show! Im hoping its the alternator, as an electrical problem will be a massive ballache to find. Any help appreciated.

Not getting rid of the 'rado... Well OK I have!

My vote would be the Fiat Coupe. Ive just had a quick scout on youtube and they sound bloody lovely! There is a video of a red one with a carbon fibre centre console which looks pretty swish, and at 220bhp standard i'd imagine a decent exhaust system and remap would see this to 260 easy. I do have one major concern with the coupes though, and thats wheel choice. Im not a fan of the standard alloys, and due to the lines of the car i cant really think of any wheels that would match it well. Hmmmm, fiat coupe, hmmmm. -

Rado vs Rice : a little test, which do you prefer?
skinnyman9000 replied to The_Dude's topic in General Car Chat
Out of those two its an easy choice. But i drive a valver, so if i had the choice between that and a 3.0L twin turbo supra, hmmmmmmm -
VDO gauge pods? just the little plastic facia panel that fits below the ashtray. Found one on ebay with a proper VW part number, but its starting to go for silly money. How much is one worth?
