  1. 2 two bedroom houses near me is still £140k, personally i think they're taking the piss. Builders are being laid off, half built houses are being left where they are, and yet they still try to charge last years prices for house, idiots.
  2. The merlin engine I work at Rolls Royce, their improvement plan for those engines was rather ingenious and is what made them so reliable. They basically took an engine off the production line, ran it at full power until something broke, and then whatever broke was strengthened and improved and inserted into the production line. Then they would take another engine and do the same. This was done over and over
  3. Well ive now lowered the backs again, they're now down 15mm further than the fronts. I'll admit its not as bad as it was, but still not mega impressed. Im yet to have the alignment and camber done due to still playing around with the setup. I think what im going to do is get it booked in at Midland VW on payday. Get them to give the setup a once over, ensuring everything is as it should be, then have the alignment and tracking done. If its simply a case of cheapo coilovers then i'll just deal with it until the spring time.
  4. To be honest i use superbright phillips ones in mine and they're pretty good, could do with a new loom though.........
  5. Nice one. I'll give this a go tomorrow then take it for a blast
  6. The coilovers are brand new, so wont be worn, and unfortunately they're £300 Vmaxx jobbies, so there is no damping adjustment on them, they are what they are, which is annoying. Sounds like the rear needs dropping a fair bit then
  7. 1) Ensure that all the 4 coilovers are at the same height, i.e all dropped by 60mm. 2) Ensure that the car is sitting level, as in the front and rear of the side skirt is the same level off the ground, even if this means the front and rear struts are set at different heights? Im looking at my alignment and camber done 2nite or tomorrow morning, but i want to fully set the car up correctly before i have this done. At the minute the rear of the car seems bouncy, and the front is down about 20mm further than the rears, but the car is sitting level. However this is no use to me because i dont know if the car sat level on standard suspension as i did not check. Would lowering the front AND the rear by 60mm, and then getting geometry done, improve the bouncy rear end? Any help is welcome, as always.
  8. word. I've toiled with selling mine over the past year, never done it, and i think its gotten to the point when i never will. In 20yrs when everyone has 1000mpg hydro cars i'll still be sat in my C with its arse scraping on the floor
  9. A friend of mine goes through cars regularly, in the past 2 years he's had 5. Currently has a mk4 golf 4motion. Cost him £8k last year, he now wants something else, local dealer offered him £3k p/x, and even on auto trader he's looking at £4.5k max. Think he's suddenly realising that him going from one newer car to the next is costing more than the repair bills for my 18yr old one!
  10. He's based in Swadlincote i think, not too far from me to be honest. All i know from autotrader adverts is that he likes to charge, shall we say, a 'slight premium' over the usual prices
  11. The back end jusy ruins everything. I think the front end looks spot on, and i like the interior, but that rear end is just wrong
  12. I was just going to get the tracking done, but with this in mind i might get a full setup done as at the minute the suspension is really getting me down about the whole car.
  13. Who did you tell me about for the stereo? I cant find a post of yours in my thread, lol
  14. What the fooooook is happening with these now?!?
  15. To save me trawling through 6 pages can someone recommend me a fitter in derby/east midlands area? A place local to me has quoted me £290 to remove the old alarm and then fit a Toad AI606 with total closure, reckon this is a good price?
  16. Im thinking that possibly some new rear bushes might help out too, i used all new top mounts and fixtures when i had the coilovers done, but nothing else. I just want to tighten up the whole feel of the thing, i will admit that it takes corners very well in comparison to before, but the handling in my mum's focus is still far better
  17. The Vmaxx ones really were a case of "they'll do for now", i wanted to spend more, didnt have the money to hand, so bought the cheapest possible coilovers i could get. Slightly gutted with the ride quality to be honest, but i'll get used to it, i dont mind bumpy/crashy, its bouncy that pisses me off. I think when they get replaced next year i'll be test driving/passenger riding in a few other rados first, to get the best ones available
  18. I spent a small fortune on sound deadening, got some top quality stuff and the door got two layers, and ive got some sound baffles at the rear of the speakers too. To be honest im amazed by the lack of rattles, at normal playing volume i can proper feel the bass on my legs, and the rear mirror shakes, and yet there is not a single rattle or squeek anywhere, bloody good on an 18yr old car! Anyway, i have the tweeters mounted on the dashboard, where the original tiny speakers were, have some little pods made so they fit behind the standard grilles there. I mainly listen to house music, so i am thinking of getting a 10 possibly 12" sub, sealed though. I really just want a sub and the two amps in the boot, i think i'll be better off then when i have the full range of speakers so to speak, so the mids arent trying to do everything. Cheers for the help so far guys, i just love my tunes too much to leave my stereo at a sub par level, needs taking up a notch
  19. Ah, it might be worth popping over to them sometime. I think i need to invest in a sub and amp setup too, at the minute i've got the 6.5" front setup trying to do everything, so bass and volume cannot be achieved. I think that an eton amp and sub will probably end up a little winter project, i love my tunes.
  20. Spain is full of seats, it looked as though every single rental company over there had bought the new seat ibizas
  21. They are height adjustable, but not damping adjustable, so it looks like they'll remain bouncy, balls. Its pretty bad on certain roads, i went over a hump in the M1 coming back from edition and actually smacked my head on the roof
  22. Is there anywhere in the midlands where i can take my sound system to be set up 'correctly'. Im running some Hertz Hi-energy components up front in audioscape doorpods: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/hertz-h ... 4f68a080b2 Powered by a 2 channel Eton amplifier: http://www.etongmbh.com/ Running off a pretty expensive Blaupunkt headunit. The speakers cost me £220, the amp was £300, the headunit was £250, the doorpods were £120, and i spent a further £120 on quality cables and sound deadening, so im rather upset by the fact that my mates standard mk4 golf system sounds better than mine. After listening to come systems around the show over the weekend im beginning to think that mine just needs setting up correctly, like the settings on the amp and headunit etc, because ive certainly not skimped on materials or equipment. So, does anyone know of anywhere (or anyone) that could do this for me?
  23. My brakes suffer from the same problem. The first inch, maybe more, of pedal seems to do naff all, when i drove my mates mk4 gti the other day i nearly went through the windscreen, instant bite on his. Ive bled the system twice with no change, so im still struggling to solve this mystery too
  24. Bought a full/complete Vmaxx suspension set, so i'd be pretty disappointed if this was the case from the word go (the crap dampers, not the squirrels thing)
  25. I had some Vmaxx coilovers fitted last week and the car is dropped a fair amount, but not massively, i still have a good 40-50mm on the rear to go. Anyway, oddly the rear suspension feels very bouncy, i was expecting a firm maybe crashy ride, that i wouldnt have minded, but mines just bouncy. Every little bump in the road feels like a massive speedbump, almost the suspension is slow to react. Anyone got any idea what might be causing this? Or have a simply just bought a poor suspension setup?
