Good work! that ignition switch is fun isnt it ;-) Just as a quick heads up on the old stinking of petrol issue check the hoses that go to and from the fuel rail as when I got my G60 they where both cracked and leaking Optimax on to the exhaust manifold  Dan
-
Tell me about it my MOT just cost me £360 and that was with me doing most of the work :-( bloody cars eh  am sure there are a few G60 owners round your way who may offer a hand though! Start a Northampton meet thats how I got to know the guys down here (and they have been regretting it ever since!)
-
Where abouts are you based mate? Anywhere near the south coast and I might be able to come give you a hand :-)
-
Hi Mate, I have to agree with Neil here it sounds like your crank bolt has worked loose and knocked the timing out :-( Its not a massive job but is a pain in the ass if its cold or wet, I had the same problem last year you need to check the timing on the cam belt with respect to the dizzy, so look at the timing mark on the bottom crank pulley, the cam pully and the disitributor its quite easy to see if its out of alignemnt. Do a search on G60 and timing, that will pull up loads on this issue. Cheers Dan

Ok just back from retest and it failed again on emmissions :-( apparently the co pot tweak made no difference, so quick chat with Darren again and it was suggested that I try testing the co pot so here are the results: (tested with engine hot, very hot!) BTS = 191 Ohms CO Pot (outer pins) = 1k (as set this morning from 550 Ohms) CO Pot bottom pins (Brown wire to Blue White wire) = 1K CO Pot top pins (Blue white wire to blue wire) = 2.2K Now Darren did say one of these should match the BTS as they work as a pair so from these readings I guess my CO Pot is fooked :? however the reading does change when you blow on the senser so I guess that bits working?? Anyway the garage that did the MOT say they can supply and fit a new CAT and reMOT for £125 which is not too bad I guess add to that the fack the MOT runs out on Thursday and I fly out to Sweden on Thursday I dont really have much choice. Will have another quick word with Darren tomorrow but if someone in the know can confirm that my CO Pot is screwed from the above readings I will get them to try a new one before the CAT
-
Hi Rob, Thanks for the offer mate but :D hopefully it should be ok with the co adjustment. Hi Pete, I dont know what the readings where it only says failed on the MOT form :-( as I say though Darren has advised leaning her right off with the co pot to ensure a pass  I did the ball joint on Sat so just need to get three new tyres and she should be ok for the retake on Tuesady :? Thanks again everyone! Dan

Right just spoken to Darren and he suggest that changing the CO Pot setting to 1K (just for the MOT) would get it through,am going to check tonight to see what value its currently set at as I did adjust it last summer but cant remember what value I set it to :? it was either 220 ohms or 550!? If its 220 that would explain why it failed if not then setting it to 1000 Ohms will mean sailing through the MOT But I assume would also be dangerously lean to drive on!! Just as a heads up to anyone thinking of doing this too, if it works I suggest a G60 things to adjust before the MOT stickie is in order

Thanks guys :-D as always overwhelmed at the amount of help available on here! Have got the Ball joint, plate pinch nut and bolt ordered for pick up in the morning will replace em in the morning, as for emmissions will be throwing a bottle of injection cleaner in for my run down to Plymouth tonight and will check voltage on the injector rail (what should it be again?) Oh yea it was running .6 where the max is .2 apparently that is quite far out :-( called around a few places for CAT prices and as follows: GSF £185 + VAT VW £412 + VAT + Surcharge of £200 for disposal of the old CAT  bless em eh Next on the list is to have a word with Darren about trimming the mixture for the test apparently its the way forward... Any other top tips keep em coming :-)
-
Am fairly sure it is an August 92 car oh well all part of the joys of Corrado ownership eh  I have heard the injector cleaner and rag trick a few times but not sure how much that works was wondering if I can just lean off the mixture for the test then put it back again after for a guaranteed pass? :?
-
Bugger :-( just heard back from the garage it failed on: Ball joint: (excessive play) Emissions: (suspect cat) Anyone know how easy it is to change the ball joint? Or is it one of those jobs I would be better off paying the garage to do? Also I thought as a 92 it is legal to remove and run without a cat? But any top tips for lowering the emissions for the re MOT?
-
Well said that man :-) have keept mine as it was from VW (except for lowering and one or two subtle dents  ) My own personal pet hate on ANY car is those bloody lexus lights :? they look bad enough on Corsa's Nova's Escort's Saxo's etc etc why oh why would anyone want to put them on a C??? But again this is my own personal opinion and is not ment to offend anyone who does fit them to their C... Just the Corsa's Nova's Escort's Saxo's etc etc drivers
-
I would have to give the third vote to the Irwin bolt grippers, cheap and very effective!! get a set, then buy new pulley bolts from VW. I had exactly the same problem on my G60 when I first got her :-(
-
I used to run the Golf + Corrado combination till the MOT and Tax came up on the Golf then she sat on my drive till decided to break the old girl for parts :-( Not very happy about it but its funding this years Corrado MOT and Tax with enough left over for a set of Samcos and hopefully a trip to Gwerks for a little special attention 8)
-
Bet it turns out the owner dropped it off at his local garage for service and some idiot mechanic decided to take it for a rag
-
Hardly fair that fuck!ng cop got let off last year for doing 158mph on a public road and not even on duty yet another example of its alright for us to do it we are the police! Then they wonder why no one respects them :?
-
Bet he only gets a few points and a ban!! :-( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfo ... 009923.stm
-
She sounded and looked bloody lovely mate! Nice to see the old girl back on the road  Now if you in the market I happen to have a complete 50mm inlet and a 4 branch longlife exhaust that you know you want!! ;-) unless of course you really want that turbo kit? lol Cheers for helping with the bushes today mate much appreciated as always!
-
Old VW's don't die they get raped for parts  she was getting a little rusty and in truth I would not have got much for her sold as is but broken for parts there are a few nice toys (like the four branch, p-slots, lowering springs etc) that will hopefully pay for some Corrado shaped new toys :-) how are you getting on with your new valver head anyway?
-
Oh I want them alright  been busy breaking my 16v GTI this weekend :-( g-dub you have a PM
-
Thats Dragons old track car, it doesnt run an air filter as its only used for 1/4 miles and gets rebuilt at least once a year
-
You cant lower the compression ration on a rotary as unlike a piston engine you cant fit bigger gaskets the RX7 engines where (twin) turbo from the factory so I guess they just made them strong enough to take it, if you have any specific questions I work with a guys who has an RX with a Big single turbo (in lovely salmon pink  )
-
Is in not in the Wikki? I have that copy of Golf+ at home that guide it spot on kept my Golf running sweet for years! 8)
-
Ok just confirmed with GSF that they dont do any hoses for the Corrado :-( and the robbing bas7ards at the local main stealer want £39.04 for the short hose and £42.19 for the long one. He aslo said they cant give out the part numbers over the phone!!?? So I guess this is now down to one question, Darren how quickly can you get me a set of G60 Samcos? will give you a bell shortly.

Just done a few searches on coolent hoses but not come up with the answer to the following: 1, The hoses that run from/to the oil cooler/heater are leaking on my G60 (I think, its defanatly coming from there abouts) does anyone know if I can just get those replaced with Samco hoses or will I have to buy the whole kit? 2, anyone got any pic's of these hoses would be handy so I know where they go, all I can see is that one goes to the water pump then up to the flange at the front of the engine the other appears to go from the pump to the oil cooler then off up somewhere in the middle as per attached pic :? 3, any idea if they are a main dealer only part, I had a look through the GSF catalog but could not see Corrado hoses? 4, Any idea on part numbers or cost (from VW)? Not too fussed on q's 3+4 as I will find out when I call them in the morning but would be handy to know if I can order the two hoses I need in Samco :-) Cheers all Dan
