  1. Not good but at least you caught it before it caused any major pain! So new one back on and running yet? :-)
  2. 8) Now I expect nothing less than a fully running car tomorrow! :D No more excuses! But do take care to double then triple check the timing marks before you start her up If there not bang on, take it off and do it again
  3. Are you just wanting to replace the cam belt? If so you dont need to take the bottom pulley off. If you have the bolts out and its not moving give it a wack on the side with a modfying device and it will fall off
  4. Cool 8) its all downhill from here! Plus you know no bolt will ever beat you again :-)
  5. Still not sure on these myself but its up to you mate :-) P.s Greeny yours looks amazing mate bra and all ;-)
  6. When I picked up my car from London I tested the fully working sun roof and all was good :-) However I went to close it from tilt on the way home and heard a bang as the passenger side cable snapped..... :( sunroof stuck open for for weeks before I had the 6 hours required to strip the headliner and fix it! Should have taken it as an omen really as in that period I also found the illegal front tyres, 1x rusted and 1x missing drop links, rotten drivers side control arm, jammed oil pump relief valve, and the front bumper was held on with cable ties  Then the crank bolt worked loose and the fun really started :-) Still after all that she is my daily driver and having picked her up on 76K (a year ago in June) she just turned 96K last weekend :-)
  7. I fixed my horn last week then (the very next morning) on the way to work my spoiler went up then came halfway back down before stopping... Turns out the fuse was blown but I though I had better strip and re-grease the mech, but yet another arse of a job its a complete ba*tard to get out but at least I know that everything has been cleaned and greased (including the motor, it gets very manky inside!!) should be good for another 15 yrs now :D Took it for a test drive spoiler goes up and down... Happy boy! Then some fu£(tard cut me up and I discoverd that my horn has stopped working again!! AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!
  8. Am sure we can make enough smoke to keem them happy
  9. Not doing anything lunch time, lets try mine in the car park ;-)
  10. Mine appears to stop quick enough, I do wish I could turn off the ABS sometimes though as it does get annoying on Southampton's shockingly poor roads!! I have driven in 3rd world countries with better roads :-( might rig up a switch to the ABS ECU at some point.
  11. They appear to have bad habbit of either snapping or working loose, nither are good for your engine :(
  12. They will come off with the Irwins mate no worries :) Best get that crank bolt changed when you can as well, risky leaving it imo but up to you :?
  13. Star head usualy means its original.... have a read of this viewtopic.php?f=1&t=23101 And give some thought to replacing it at some point! Fortunatly mine didnt break it just worked loose till the timing was so far out it wouldnt run anymore :( took me a while to figure out what had happened but at least it was easy to get out... Dan
  14. Nope thats the crank bolt, dont mess with that.... UNLESS its not been changed for a DX bolt and washer, use the search for more info on that. Have you taken the water pump pulley off yet? As thats another fun one to remove with the belt off!! :( I found jamming a screwdriver through it stopped it turning enough to get the bugger off though :) iirc you need to take it off to get at the bottom cam cover but best check, my memory is not what it once was
  15. You will get there keep the faith :-) Mean time get yourself to machine mart or a good tool place, then ask for these http://www.amazon.com/IRWIN-394001-Bolt ... B0000CCXVZ Give the bolts a good soaking with plus gas then they will come off easy, then replace with new bolts (they are cheap) and put a small dab of copper ease on them so there not such a pig next time :-)
  16. Gutted :( get a set of Irwin bolt grippers they are worth their weigth in gold for removing those spline bolts that VW love so much! Hope it gets a bit easier for you from here!
  17. No worries mate :-) I have had loads of help on here, its nice to help someone else for a change! Dan
  18. It wont be that hard I had the lot out when I took out my headliner to sort the sunroof Working sunroof is 8)
  19. I assume you have it on axle stands at the front, try it with one wheel (front) on the ground ;-) That will stop the engine turning if its in gear
  20. yea just slap it in gear, make sure you clean out the heads of the bolts and that your spline is in all the way before you do it, or you will round them off! I had to use Irwrn bolt grippers to get mine out so I replaced the lot from VW :)
  21. Has anyone replaced their seatbelt mech from VW? Just wondering how much they are as mine is very slow to pull back the belt when I unplug it, often have to "help" it back in :(
  22. Tempted to put it in "The definitive "what exhaust?" discussion thread"
  23. Or how about this one?
  24. You can get them, but don't do it mate I beg you leave it for the Corsa/Saxo/Nova gang! Save some pennies splash out on a new back box :)
