  1. Don't think that's ever bothered Kev, he just wants to drive it and piss off porsches  It would do a pretty good time though I reckon, it's pretty darn quick!!

    Cone Airfilter

Hi mate, You might find THIS thread helpful, has some very useful information on cone filters vs panel filters vs standard paper filters etc.
  3. I bought sh*t loads of sticky back black felt today, thought I would de-rattle the interior whilst the car's off the road and I'm waiting for the wiring to get sorted out
  4. They have to use a strong polish to cut back the paint to the desired finish, if they went over again slower with a fine polish it will be perfect, but I doubt they'll do that. They will also need to wash it after as the polishing will cover the car in dust etc so they just give it a quick wash usually. Also worth asking them how long until you can polish the paint after you get it back as fresh paint needs to harden so you won't be able to polish it for possibly a few weeks. Then i'd just give it a few goings over with some Super Resin which will cover up the holograms they leave behind and give it a nice fresh finish. Top with a quality wax and just enjoy the finish 8)
  5. The Megs 3 step products aren't the best really. Step 1 is a good paint cleaner, but Step 2 is more of a glaze than a polish as it contains no abrasives as a polish should. I would replace with a polish like Autoglym Super Resin Polish which is actually a polish and is stacked with fillers which will 'fill in' any light swirls you do inflict when washing (big-ben your new paint will be swirly to begin with as the bodyshop will wash it quikly with a sponge when it's covered in dust etc. it will also be covered in holograms/buffer trails I'd imagine from when they polish the new paint with a polisher using a harsh polish too quickly!). And there are far better waxes than the Step 3 wax (which does smell amazing I'll give it that!) as it doesn't last very long really. I personally can't recommend Victoria Concours wax enough on dark cars, imo it's better than Dodo Juice, and only ~£30, bargain imo!
  6. ok kool, thanksl!! :D so, im thinking (with new paint)... clean the wheels first wash car with the snow, leave for a min quick sponge over jet wash off spray on last tounch detailer when still wet towel off stand back and admire!! am i right in saying there is no need to polish it at first? just a good clean and wax to protect it... then after 6 months or so will add a polish in there... Almost right... - Clean wheels - Cover car with snow foam, leave for 5 mins or so - Pressure wash off - If car was pretty dirty snow foam again, leave, and pressure wash off. - Wash with a wash mitt NOT a sponge (especially on new paint, you'll just swirl it to fcuk!), including door/boot shuts using 2 buckets (preferablty with grit guards) one with shampoo (not fairy liquid) and one with clean water. - Pressure wash, rinse with hose (I find the cleaner running water gets rid of left over suds better) - Spray with Last Touch whilst wet - Dry with a towel (waffle weave) - Finish off with a final Last Touch using a microfibre cloth (to get rid of any streaks left over) Stand back and admire a good job knowing your paint won't be swirled to fcuk 8)
  7. I may be completely wrong, but I think the aux water pump sat around there. The aux water pump was at the front of the block on my Mk5 R32. Don't know whether you are on about the EGR air pump which blows air in to the exhaust to clean emissions? Mine has a valve which I am just blanking off and Vince is flashing it from the ECU (I have attached a picture of it).
  8. Yes indeed. I don't run it that low on the road, it's come up about an inch or so for the timebeing. I'm going to be fabricating a metal belly pan to protect it as it's alloy, or of course I could put a steel sump on it from a VR. Would be interesting to see what the difference is with the 4mo engine as my Mk5 R32's sump actually sits higher than the stock VR one, didn't need any modding of the mounts and bonnet closes perfectly fine
  9. Yeah fraid so at the momet  My dad didn't renew the contract so I've had to renew it myself which I'm waiting for! Mmmm that looks good 8) PM me what needs to be done to put it on and how much you want for it :)
  10. Cheers karl. Show me now or ring me later, I don't have internet access at home :brickwall:
  11. Vince said there may be 1 or 2 minor fault codes come up but these can be ironed out as and when they crop up. That green MK2 with the MK5 R32 hasn't come back in for any bug fixing yet, so that's a good sign :D If you had a nice tool collection, like a 1/2" to 3/8" ratched reducer and some stanley knife action, things would go much smoother. Watching you hack through a rubber hose with a junior hacksaw, with a blade minus half it's teeth, was comedy gold   Yeah I need to invest in some decent tools really!! We can't all have garages like yours Kev :notworthy:
  12. Well no I haven't hung around at all really, I have surprised myself as how quickly it can be done tbh. If I had everything ready when I started I would have had this done last week! I'm sure there will be some issues pop up at some point but so far it's been quite simple really.
  13. Cheers guys! Well as title suggest the weekend commencing the 18th (so not this weekend but the next) should be the date I can fire this baby up, fingers crossed!! Vince will have the wiring done next week, Kev should be available to come help so there's no reason why it won't be complete. That gives me this coming weekend to get it 100% ready for the loom, as well do some other small jobs I want to do that probs won't get done once it's running! Can't wait!
  14. I would just go with the rear on the VR as the stock front ARB is already quite chunky, putting a bigger front on will encourage more understeer. I recently fitted a rear Neuspeed ARB on mine and found it sharpened the steering quite well, turn in was much sharper and it corners flatter (doesn't feel like it's dragging it's arse round the bend!). Worth the money imo. If you want to improve the drivability of your car then I would also recommend the MED adjustable top mounts, they are the best thing I have put on my car! They give the suspension a bit more caster making the car more stable in a straight line so motorway driving is great. They also help with bump steer, sharpens up your breaks quite well etc just a general improvement to the way the car drives I found. Only problems with them though are they are quite expensive, a bit of a pain to fit, give a little bit more road noise (solid metal mounts rather than soft rubber ones!) and the bearings don't last too long in them!
  15. Cheers Vick! Got as much done as I could at the weekend, this time with Kev's help to help me double check everything which is all gravy  We got all the rad pipes in place, put some fresh oil in it and cranked it over to lube it all up, changed the gearbox oil with some nice Redline MT90 and few other little bits and bobs. I'm actually quite proud of myself for doing it all myself so far, never in a hundred years would have thought I could do it without someone's help but it's actually been quite simple! So just waiting on the wiring to get done at Stealth now, I know he's been fully booked so originally said no rush when I gave him the wiring as didn't think I would need it this quick. Hopefully it will get done this week giving me more to do at the weekend, might even be able to get it fired up  Also thought I would have a go at some spraying, the front is pretty butchered with stone chips so thought I might as well have a go on a bit that's only small. I haven't put any lacquer on it yet hence the matt finish in the pics! Won't be too long now!
  16. I got a MK5 R32 in mine, just waiting on the wiring to arrive from Stealth. I'm not running a cat and so have had the 2 post-cat lambdas deleted. Vince said that I may need to do something else though as he only removes the fault codes basically so the ECU might still be looking for them and go in to limp mode if they are not there. Can anyone shed some more light on this resistor trick as I dare say I will need to do this?
  17. That looks awwwwwwesome!! :notworthy:
  18. Yeah I realise I could have spent a lot more! It's needed at the end of the day. I also had to get oil filter and G12 from VW, but should have everything now to make the engine complete this weekend ready to turn the key ... when the wiring's done! Ahh don't need brake/clutch fluid but do need PAS fluid, must remember that!
  19. Here's my rough idea: Car - £3500 (2 years ago) Coilovers, wheels and little mods - ~£1000 General renewing of tired parts (bushes, 288 brakes etc) - ~£600 Head gasket and timing chain overhaul (using spacer and ARP bolts) - £300 Rotrex charger inc all parts needed with it - ~£2500 MED top mounts - £120 Neuspeed ARB - £180 More bush renewing with R32 bushes and poly axle bushes - ~£150 R32 engine and everything else needed for install - ~£2500 Wiring setup, ecu flashing and remap - £Price to be confirmed but most likely in the region of £800 :pale: There's loads of other bits I have most likely missed out but this is a rough idea. Total: Nearly £12k!!!! Holy sheeite, never added it all up before  Mind you I haven't sold my charger yet and will make some money back from my old engine and bits I don't need from the R32, but still!
  20. Yeah I remember seeing your pics of the gear selector bush! Mine don't look too bad, a bit slack as they would be, but can't be arsed to replace so have just connected it all back up as it was  I spent nearly a ton on oil this week, Silkolene Pro S for the engine and some Redline MT90 for the gearbox (never used before so will hopefully make a nice bit of difference). Not a lot has happened since my last update, just been connecting bits up like all the rad pipes, PAS pipes, fuel lines etc and generally cleaning bits (not perfect but it's not going to be a show car!). Should hopefully get it pretty much completed this weekend bar the wiring which I am still waiting for Vince to do, but he's been stacked with work apparently so not expecting them to be done quickly :(
  21. Gearbox certainly comes off with the engine and subframe etc all still in, I had to do it last winter to do my timing chains ... all I can say is have fun
  22. Great work! Can't beat VRT's, well except for R32T's  Not a fan of the bodykit, but that's just my opinion. Oh and second pic down of your last pics, the guy bending over the engine bay (not sure if it's you or not) looks just like David Walliams from Little Britain
  23. I have been using a Silverline for over 2 years now, probably done about 20 cars worth of polishing in that time, so not used a hell of a lot but often enough. Never had any problems with it, and I paid about the same maybe a bit more.
