Yep, rarer than a rare thing on rares day! Well, the big issue (not the magazine sold by tramps!) with the adjustable trim not fitting is the ignition barrel is in a different position, it sits closer in on the fixed column. Other than that I think it could fit fine, you'd just be left with a hole where the height adjuster lever was! The barrel is just held in a bracket on the fixed column which I've circled on the attached pic of the 2 columns. You can clearly see the adjustable barrel sits further out than the fixed one.

Just had my call literally straight after I typed my last reply   Yep, unavailable! Wounder! :help:
-
Nice! So I'll just wait for my call from the dealer now then :brickwall:

Yeah I'm pretty sure I put the ribs against the chassis :salute: That's what I was worried about, and generally squashing the rubber mounts too much. I'll have a look at the proper torque settings and give them another tighten.
-
Cheers Dave, I just didn't know if I kept tightening them I'd just squeeze the rubber mounts too much  I'll nip them up some more and see if that cures the clunking (which is only very occassionally over a sharp bump).
-
Just want to check I've fitted my rear coilovers correctly. I've attached a very amateur Paint drawing of what how I have assembled them  My question is though (if that's the correct assembly!) how tight do you go with the nuts on top of the strut? Because they are tightening up the rubber mounts (I put new mounts on btw), so they just keep tightening squeezing the rubber mounts. I've not done them up to as tight as they'd go, but I'm getting a clunking over bumps so thinking I've probs not tightened them enough and there's too much movement? Thaaaaaaaanks :salute:

Great! Well mine's supposed to arrive tomorrow, so will see what happens I guess!

I wouldn't get the GSF mk2 diesel gearbox mount, they're crap! I put one on mine last year and I recently put a VT one back in as the rubber was lifting away from the casing :epicfail: Kev had a GSF one too and was having gearshifting issues with his. He recently bit the bullet and bought a genuine std one new from VAG and it's LOADS better. The rubber on the standard one feeeeels softer but if you put the mounts in a vice and put some leverage on them the GSF one has more play! I bit the bullet as well and just bought a new genuine VAG mount for mine as the VT one sends too many vibrations through the cab for my liking and I get clutch judder (which was terrible with the shagged GSF mount!). Fitting this weekend. Buy cheap buy twice! :salute:

I'm here, I just like to watch :norty:

I discovered last night that these cameras aren't very water proof  I went go-karting with work on an outside track in the pissing down rain (Whilton Mill, twin engine 60mph karts! Awesome fun with slick tyres in the rain ), duct-taped the camera to my helmet and to start with the quality was brilliant, just the angle I put the camera on the helmet wasn't great so was looking at the front of my kart/my feet the whole time  however towards the end of the session the sound had gone and the quality was a bit ropey! :( so will be ordering another one I think and hopefully this time I get the proper #3 version with yellow date stamp! Then just need to organise another go-karting trip in the dry

Try Camskill.co.uk - On the left, click on winter car tyres Also use this - http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp - to work out what tyres will fit the wheels, and also what other tyre sizes will have the same rolling radius as the originals (so as not to put the speedo out) Yeah been looking on Camskill, there's not much choice for 205/50/15's but a bit more choice for 195/50/15's, the Vredestein Snowtrac 3's being the best really from what I read. £60 a pop though compared to £44 for say the Toyo Snowprox.
-
Yeah no probs mate :salute:
-
Mine have turned up today and they are still in the box (not for long). Won't be able to get them on until next weekend so hopefully you find the best setup by then :) Cool! Yeah I'll post the settings I try out, obviously what I find best for me might not be best for you but at least you can get an idea!
-
It's all about leverage! If it's proper rusted on though you may need to heat it up to get it off :gag:
-
Never spotted that! A while by the looks of it, changed it now though

I'd love to fit them tonight but a) it's raining and the workshop is only really available weekends. b) I'm busy anyway c) it will take longer as they will need all the damping playing around with and c) I have other stuff I want to do at same time so might as well wait and make a job out of it. Going go karting with work tomorrow night as well so can't fit then so might as well wait until saturday and do it properly. Believe me I want them fitted a LOT more than any of you lot do

Quick pic of the GAZ's (just a front and a rear, couldn't be bothered to unwrap all 4). They certainly look the part and they come with longer springs rather than the gash 'helper' springs like most other coilovers. The rears have a knob on the strut to adjust the damping. They all came set to the softest, so there is going to be some setting up to do when I put them on. The front's are top adjustable, you get a knob adjuster with the kit to adjust these.
-
Yeah the pics certainly don't so them any justice, you don't realise how HUGE these engines are until you see them in the metal :luvlove: Yep the Gazzers certainly look the part, just hope I can set them up to their full potential

Well I fitted my old ignition switch which was relatively new a while ago and felt perfectly fine, however it now feels quite stiff so not sure what's happened there  My column was easy to fit, David Wort's guide looks quite tricky but that's because he used a Polo column and had to swap parts over etc to fit the corrado. I just got a 2nd hand corrado fixed column (from an early valver I think) so it was a straight fit, apart from the UJ which was different but that made things easier as I only needed to release the pinch bolt on the UJ and slide out the old column and slide in the new one (well with a bit of force and fannying around lol). You just need to drill out the sheer bolts holding the original column in if they've not already been done, and then it's just a case of unbolting old one and bolting in new, bish bash bosh
-
Here's some pics from our day fitting the fixed column. I just wanted to show off the workshop that I use really  And then a pic of a rear and front GAZ, couldn't be bother to unwrap all of them to take pics!

[chant]Tur-bo, tur-bo, tur-bo, tur-bo[/chant] :D Or turbo  I'd prefer turbo actually, would cost more though so have a feeling I'd get to the amount a charger would cost and say "That'll do"
-
 Can't wait to see what you think to the Gaz Rob, but then whats next? Big brakes probably, shorter final drive and rebuilt box then start saving for a supercharger  none of this is going to happen any time soon though :(
-
I could guarantee a fixed column will fix your steering issues! Check your adjustable though, the pin in them can work itself loose over time and so the joint becomes loose, which is what happened with mine. You'll need to remove the trim round it etc so you can see it. I'll try and get some pics of mine so you can see what I mean. Pushing this pin back in might tighten up the column a bit. Only issue with the fixed column is the trim to go round it (which you definitely need as the ignition barrel is in a different position) is obsolete for the late interior :( Early is still available but only just, that's what I'm having to fit to mine.
-
Yeah that's all it is with mine, the clips have broke and it's just falling apart. It's been in a out a few times with various dash jobs I've done like heater matrix etc. AFAIK the light did work but might not now.
-
Yeah I bloody hope so anyway  The Weitecs are definitely foobared there's no 2 ways about it, they've been leaking for ages, they're ridiculously crashy and it's not very stable at high speeds. A lot of my steering related issues though were down to my adjustable column being sloppy as sheeeite, fitted the fixed one at the weekend and the difference is night and day with the steering, it feels so solid and responsive now, easily one of the best things I've done to the car! :notworthy:
