My GAZ coilovers have just arrived! I'll take some pics when I get a chance and post them up. I'm going to be fitting them on Saturday so will be able to have some good reviews next week :salute: The rest of my week is going to drag a bit now

I've just got the 25mm Neuspeed rear on mine and I love it 8) A set of ARB's, renewed genuine bushes all round (R32 ones for wishbones), MED adjustable top mounts and a fixed steering column and my steering is now epic! :luvlove:
-
I got the first half (bottom) of the early trim through today, other half should be in tomorrow weirdly. I put it in place and so far looks like it should fit, the ignition barrel is in the right place at least on mine. However the early bottom trim is slightly longer than the late adjustable bottom trim so it fouls the lower dash trim slightly. I'll try and get some pics up so I can show you what I mean, but I think some slight cutting may be needed :( I'll wait until I get the 2nd half tomorrow and actually try to fit it! Btw did I mention the fixed column is AMAZING??? :notworthy:

Bit of cardboard and some black duct tape, bish bash bosh and bob's your uncle :epicfail:

Yeah 'tis a strange one, especially with it showing 1 half of the late trim being obsolete 5 years after the other half :cuckoo: I haven't heard from my parts guy yet about the early trim, I placed the order last week and haven't heard anything so maybe he can't even get the early trim now? :confused4: Will be pretty annoyed if I can't even get the early trim as there's no way the adjustable trim can be modified to fit with the fixed column :(
-
Yeah they're the part numbers I tried, 01C just means black. They definitely said OBSOLETE in big green letters on my parts guy's computer screen. Strangely though it showed that one half of the trim has been obsolete since late '96 and the other half didn't go obsolete until 2001 or something :confused4: Went out at lunch round some usual town roads that usually get me swearing, and I was giggling like a little girl at how solid the steering was  still bloody crashy :censored: but the new coilies will be arriving any day to sort that out (hopefully!). So nice to enjoy driving the car again :luvlove:

Corby Motorsport sell these (http://www.corbymotorsport.com), they are similar to the GAZ I've just bought in that they are adjustable and you can choose spring rates etc, I think anyway. Look nice, I didn't think they did them for our car's, more jap cars but probs worth asking as they look a nice bit of kit! 8)

Update ... Me and Kev fitted my fixed column yesterday and the difference is amazing, the steering has NEVER felt this good on my car! I can't comment for how it will effect others as my adjustable column had a lot of play in it, I infact only had 2 settings rather than 3 as one of the pins was dislodged. It was easy enough to do, I wouldn't say you'd need much skill or any special tools other than a good drill and some sharp drill bits to drill out the sheer bolts (and ignition barrel if you want to keep yours). I got a full corrado column tho so was just a case of swapping it. I can also confirm the adjustable trim does not fit, the ignition barrel is in a different position :( so need the proper fixed column trim! Really glad I done this as it's made the steering so much better and hasn't cost the earth!

Yeah I bet

I ordered the early trim pieces yesterday. Even they are looking scarce by the looks of it, he had none showing up in stock on his system but they weren't showing as obsolete. He put the order in for me anyway to see if there are any!

Yep 8x17 ET35 all round, perfect imo. Not tried Perada's before but they sound budgety to me. I've got the Kumho KU31's on mine, they're cheap (205/40/17's are £45 plus p+p each on Camskill.co.uk) but they get good reviews, and I can't really knock them so far, not the best tyre but they're certainly not the worst I've had and my car's pushing 280bhp! I think they've been replaced now with the KH31's which got even better reviews and only a tiny bit more expensive 8)
-
Good man! They are great wheels, although I am biased. What colour are you getting? I have white ones 8)

1 - I have a belly button and I wipe my own ass, I wipe my own ass! 2 - I love lamp 3 - I like ham :)

thats what my mum, dad and mrs think... im 6ft though  A hobbit with Gigantism?

Yeah definitely undo the hub nut to check. I had to do one of my front bearing's a while back (I hit a curb at an angle on the n/s front wheel, enough force to buckle the wheel slightly and bulge the tyre, had a bad droning afterwards so assumed it would be the bearing), checking for play with the wheel etc all in place didn't feel like there was any play, I did it anyway and when the hub nut etc was removed it pretty much fell apart it was that loose!

Think I might do the same :salute:

V3's are about £1200-1300 now, but they are good. I'm giving GAZ a try, should be arriving this week. GAZ are an english brand and specialise in good quality adjustable dampers, they let you choose the setup you want including spring rates etc so you dont just get hard german springs like with Weitec/KW etc. They have 2 sets, GAZ Gold which are ~£900 and offer fully adjustable damping and rebound etc or the cheaper GAZ GHA kit which I'm trying for ~£540 which are equivilent to V1's but cheaper and they have 42 way adjustable damping and height adjustable. Really looking forward to trying them out!
-
Welcome to the Guinea Pig club  worth a try if you can get them for £380, bargain if they're normally £560!
-
Yep the GHA kit is what I'm trying out, ~£540, cheaper than V1 but have 42 way adjustable damping and they let you choose the spring rates. Should be here next week hopefully  so will be able to give a proper review! I'll have the Gazzumpers on by then as well so I might pop along to offer another comparison 8)

I can put up with a small gap. What's the difference between the early and late, just the size of the hazard light? If the early ones are still available and this is the case would be easy enough to just cut the hole a bit bigger for the hazard light!
-
B0ll0cks! :brickwall: :brickwall: Chances of finding a late car with a fixed column is going to be pretty slim as well I'd imagine? Was the fixed a standard item on early valvers?
-
On a good note though my fixed column's just arrived  Haven't spoken with Geoff yet about using his workshop, I'll no doubt be seeing him soon though so I shall find out and then if he says yes we can arrange a weekend to do some fixed column goodness! My suspension will be here next week (touch wood! Can't fecking wait tbh) so might work it so if Kev comes uuuuber early as he usually does  then we could get to the workshop first and fit the new coilies in an hour or so then Jim and Mr Wort can meet us there and we can commence guiding shafts in to dark holes!
-
I can confirm the late upper and lower trims needed for this are LONG GONE! :brickwall: Just went to order few bits and thought I'd check and they've been obsolete for years.
-
Must be pretty bad then! How's it feel? My steering wheel jumps up and down over bumps!
