  1. I don't think you'll find Kev at BVF or many other shows for that matter
  2. Yeah I had mine done not all that long ago, the car definitely drives better when I get that done. But still gash due to the fooked shocks!
  3. Well I'm pretty good with photoshop so could easily do that, it's not the same though lol. The best shots are taken with a rig where the camera is attached to the car on a pole. You then set the camera up for a slow shutter speed and can then literally push the car round and you get an awesome effect. Here's a during picture someones put up on Flickr to show how the pic looks pre-editting with the guy in the pic (the final pic would obviously be taken when he's out the way!): PRE-EDIT And then post-editting: POST-EDIT My mate's going on holiday today but whe he's back we're gunna set up a rig of some sort and have a go at some pics like this 8)
  4. Went out and took some more pics last night with my mate. We were trying to get some good motion pics but none of them turned out any good really, these are the only remotely OK ones. I think he's going to invest in a rig of some sort so we can get some really good motion pics without having to move the car much! This last one would have looked great if the car was in perfect focus!!
  5. Yeah, nice coilovers but they're £1100, I'm looking at the GAZ's for £530 which I still can't afford at the minute (damn house!) but my credit card can
  6. Yeah I had concerns about the quality too but most of the bad reviews I read were from a few years back and these issues have since been improved, apparently! So hopefully they're better than they were. Tbh though, the quality is good where it matters i.e. the damper quality! The only place they had quality issues were with the protective zinc coating coming away from the threads meaning they could rust up over time, but I will cover these with duct tape anyway once I have set the desired height and I regularly clean the car including the arches so hopefully they will last quite well! This is the kit I'm looking at, these guys are just up the road from me as well: http://www.corbymotorsport.com/corrado-9198-gaz-coilover-conversion-kit-p-65.html
  7. Well I thought I was doing that with the Weitecs at the time, they were well praised and weren't a budget set so I thought they'd last a fair whack, but 3 years is a bit gash really, although my old local roads and journey to work (country roads/villages!) didn't help, where I am now is much better. Ideally I would like a 2nd car for daily use so that I can take the strain off the corrado every day. Going back to the GAZ suspension though, I had a chat with a dealer near me and they confirmed that the GHA Fast Road coilovers (the cheaper ones at £530) are height AND damping adjustable. They also set up the damping and spring rates to suit the needs of the client and said that most off the shelf coilovers have way too stiff spring rates/damping settings as standard, to try and counter for everyone I suppose, also german makes like Weitec/KW are setup for german roads which are smooth! I was also chatting to a guy last night who's in to his Fords and he told me that the GAZ coilovers are very well respected in the Ford circles, so that and the fact Kev owned some and was very happy with the ride quality (albeit the GAZ GOLD's) is swinging me towards them now.
  8. weitec are just a cheaper subsidiary of kw anyway aren't they?!? no surprises that v1's are going to be similar to the top end weitecs... Yeah Weitecs are made by KW but obviously they are a lot cheaper and the seals are obviously one thing they skimp on judging by mine! The V1's are only height adjustable with fixed damping etc so they're the equivilent of mine and are supposed to be about the same ride quality (when mine were new at least) you just pay more for the name and better quality parts. The top Weitecs, the TX's are height and damping adjustable and not much more than a set of V1's but would most likely give a better ride although I'm not sure on the quality of these but it will be similar to mine no doubt.
  9. Good project, shall keep my eye on this! Good luck with it :salute:
  10. Yep they're gash (depending on road conditions obviously), and you are right you can't make fast progress unless the road is anything but perfectly smooth, the other day I had trouble keeping with my mates 1.4 Polo along some really bumpy country roads, I just couldn't go any faster without being thrown all over the place, it was just ridiculous!! I never went for the softer springs in the end as my dampers are just too nackered now so there'd be no point spending the money when the dampers are my main problem! New springs were about £30+ per spring so would be knocking on £150 for the set posted etc, if your dampers are still fine then I would probs just try the slightly softer spring rates which should make it a bit more bearable. At the end of the day though, ride quality and comfort is down to the damper quality which Kev proved as he went out in a corrado with the much respected V1's on (same spring rates as our Weitecs and same as he had on his) and he said the ride quality was terrible compared to his, actually said it was pretty much the same as mine. His suspension obviously being the V3's with the correct damping/rebound etc setup! A lot of money though at ~£1300 now for a set of V3's :( I'm currently looking in to GAZ coilovers, not really used that much in the VW circles but they make bloody good dampers, they have just had quality issues in the past which I have been told is improved now. Kev had a set of GAZ Golds which are the equivilent to V3's ie fully adjustable but are only ~£860 and he said the ride quality on them was perfect, he just had the quality issues with the zinc coating on the threads coming away etc. I can't afford the Gold's myself, but they do a cheaper coilover for just over £500 which still have adjustable damping and they are setup up to your requirements i.e. spring rates etc not just off the shelf you get what you're given! Very tempted to try these out next as mine are just unbearable now :(
  11. It's a fairly straight forward job for a competant garage to just replace the bearing for you like that, and the one near me just ask for a tenner to do it and it doesn't take them that long. The cost of replacing bearings is in the labour to get to the bearing not so much the actual replacement, and depending on whether they remove the hub carriers etc in 1 go they'll have to do the tracking etc afterwards. I usually prefer to just give the hub/carrier etc to my local garage and I stand there and watch them do it to make sure it's done right  but in this last case they were too busy and my bearing was fooooooooooked, luckily enough my mum's fella builds drag cars and has a nie big workshop with all the toys in for me to use! :notworthy:
  12. Yeah I think they are just for the ABS ring, so not entirely necessary to remove if just removing the hub from the bearing etc. In fact I remember now, I split the hub with ABS ring attached from the carrier, then I put the hub in a vice, whacked a screwdriver in and leant on it to undo them! Yeah, we tried separating the hub from the carrier with it still on the car with a big gear puller but it wasn't working as well as we'd hoped so I just pulled it all off and used the press! 8)
  13. Here's a good guide on VWVortex on how to replace front wheel bearings yourself, however this is using a proper puller that does the lot, but it at least gives you a good idea of what needs to be done! http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1722551
  14. I did my wheel bearing the other week and I needed to get a very well fitting screwdriver and then whack it in with a hammer so it was definitely all the way in, then leaning on I managed to get them to turn! Once you have the 3 screws removed, you need some form of puller to separate the hub from the carrier. I think you need the driveshaft still in though as you need something in the middle to push against whilst pulling the hub. Alternatively, if you have access to a press (this is what I done) you can push the hub off from the other side, you'll need the right sized float to push just the hub through the bearing, and then obviously the hub needs to be able to fall away from the carrier so you need to position it on something properly. Then to get the bearing out you need to remove the circlips holding it in and then just press out the bearing using the correct sized float. Alternatively you could just take the hubs/carriers intact to a garage and slip them a tenner to split it all for you, depending on how friendly your local garage is they should be ok to replace the bearings etc for you as you have done the hard part getting it all off!
  15. Yeah I remember those days well  I wouldn't hurry to drive it just yet, I don't want to drive the bloody thing but I have to  Should be driving a bit better soon though as just need to sort out few bits. Main thing is the suspension though, my Weitecs are fooked :( probs gunna be ordering some GAZ coilovers soon as I can't stand the crashy ride any longer!
  16. Don't you just hate people born in the '80s...?! Calvin Harris doesn't "I got love for you if you were born in the 80's"
  17. I was just a feotus then though!
  18. One for sale on here at the mo mate, unbutchered... viewtopic.php?f=13&t=94014 :D I've actually already got one, just never put it on as I didn't want to butcher it to fit my 6x9's, I just need to get off my arse and collect it from my dad's garage  Cheers anyway though! :D
  19. Normal is 95, most supers are 97, V-Power is 99 it was 97 when it was Optimax I believe. They had 100 octane v-power in Germany when I was there 2 years ago yet we still haven't got it over here :(
  20. Cheers mate! Yeah I have a high res, PM me your email address and I'll send it across to you :salute:
  21. Cheers dude! No I haven't painted the fogs, I got them off KADVR6 on here as my originals were cracked. I don't think they're original, think they're just some Hella replacements.
