Yeah I thought that might be the case :( That will have to do I suppose until we find someone breaking a corrado that had a fixed column! Might be able to fashion something to cover the hole
-
Ahh bugger! I best get mine ordered too if they have any left!
-
Jim FYI, I asked Vince the other day if he thinks it's worth me changing the UJ whilst at it and he said he's never really felt one with enough play in it to really need replacing!
-
ooh steady, Geoffy boy might get a bit excited by all those shafts in his workshop  I've cleared it with Boris Johnson mate, we're good to go for fitting Nelson's column in your car :salute: Nah, he won't get excited about our measly little shafts, he's used to big thick american shafts in his workshop
-
  I dunno, Nelson's column would add quite bit of weight, might slow it down a tad and we can't have that, it's slow enough already! I will give Geoffy boy a call and see if he'd be happy to host the first ever corrado shafting day at his workshop! I don't wanna take the piss as it's obviously his workshop but I'm sure he'd be ok with it as it's not gunna be chavs potentially stealing his stuff!

Rear axle bushes are now finally done! Booked the car in to Stealth yesterday to have some fitted and am pleased with the results. Car feels much more settled at speed and feels tighter when cornering, not as crashy at the back either (although still pretty crashy!). Just need the GAZzers now and all should be sweeeeeet
-
No harm in trying for a group buy, they can only say no! I use my car daily over a mixture of town, dual carriageway, country lanes etc so after a few days with the GAZ's on I should be able to give a good enough review really. And as always, I'm happy to take people out in it so they can judge for themselves :salute:
-
Cool! Tbh if you told them how you want the car to be then the supplied spring rates should be about right. I went for a little harder than what he suggested (325lb front, 228lb rear) purely because Kev mentioned his GAZ's were a little on the soft side and were spot on when he changed to these slightly harder spring rates, but then that's down to personal preference. I've been in his car with the same rates on V3's and the ride was perfect imo, firm but not crashy 8)

UJ shouldn't be an issue, I think it's just the UJ to rack splines that changed from early to late corrados. you can use your lock barrel on the old fixed column if you are happy drilling the little hole to release the lock barrel on the fixed column, in theory it makes the car easier to steal as the lock could be popped out more easily by someone who knew what they were doing, but in practice I would have thought you have an immobiliser anyway. you need a couple of regular bolts to replace the shear bolts (same spec as the original lower column tube to dash ones), and some fat washers if you like the steering column really low :) Cool so I wouldn't need quite as many parts as stated in your thread then? Mine being a late VR as well has that ring round the ignition barrel so don't know if that means I'd need to keep my ignition barrel as well for the key etc? Jim, thanks for the offer but my local stealer parts guy gives me discount as well, he's in love with corrados and every time I go in there to get something I end up leaving about an hour later
-
Well I also think it would be a good social, might even get a few others interested. My suspension is going to be another 2 weeks or so, but I could pretty much start ordering parts for the column now so could do that sooner. No doubt Kev will be along shortly
-
Fair enough  I don't think we'll be disappointed, they're known for good quality damping and being 42 way adjustable we could set them up just how we want them really! What spring rates did you go for?
-
I'd be up for it, up to Kev if he wants to come really as he was originally coming up to help me with mine but wouldn't neccessarily need his help if we're all doing it. Was going to make a day of it whilst also fitting my new suspension etc so Kev only needed to make one journey. I haven't got any parts yet. I should be getting a 2nd hand corrado fixed column though from a valver, so will I just need to change the UJ etc over to my VR6 specific one? What other parts would I need then other than the fixed column surrounds? I'd be hoping to keep my ignition barrel as well.
-
I'm going to be doing this as well soon. Jim, I'm guessing you won't need to come watch then if Dave is helping you with yours?
-
They certainly look good on paper and I have heard great reviews about ride quality for them. Mine will be a couple of weeks yet but I will obviously be giving my opinion on them once I have had a chance to drive the car a bit with them on. I'm hoping they live up to my expectations as I think they could be a serious contender for the V1's, which imo are still too hard and crashy with no way of adjusting, but cheaper!
-
Must get over to see you mate and return the favour of that ride out. You've got the 6 branch on yours haven't you? Yeah I've got the Dubpower 6 branch on mine, lovely looking and well made downpipes, just don't fit right :bad-words: Yeah definitely pop over some time mate, I'm on my own now back in Rushden give us a shout next time you're in the area!

Sounds better than my 32 imo 8) A Techtonics exhaust (or similar) is definitely on my list of things I want to get in the future. My Miltek is only 2 1/4" bore and it's bit crusty underneath plus it booms like a b@stard at 70mph when hot! :censored:
-
 'bout time! Sounds lurrrverly! :luvlove:
-
Inception - also 10/10. I thought it was an awesome film, so cleverly done! :notworthy:
-
Yep, it's called a Gora in the scene world over on Edition 38 and this is what a fairly standard one looks like:
-
IIRC it's about £60 for a gearbox mount new from VAG, not cheap considering you can get a Febi/Bilstein one from vwspares for ~£20. Don't get a GSF one though whatever you do, that's what I got before and it's foobarred in less than a year! Not a massive job to do, just a bit of a ball ache. You need to loosen the GB mount and the front engine mount and then jack the engine up enough to be able to slide the GB mount out of the subframe. I find it's more easily accessible from the passenger arch (with the wheel off obviously).
-
Yeah would be a worthwhile visit then! I'll give you a shout when we do it then :salute:
-
I had a look on mine last night and mine's got this. I asked Vince about it as well and he said it won't be that as we actually did some runs on the dyno switching the manifold manually so we know it's not to do with that. Apparently he has an idea what the problem could be and hopefully if there's time after my axle bushes are done next week we can put it on the rollers and investigate.
-
Yep, mine had bad clutch judder until I fitted a new gearbox mount this weekend and it's gone now.
-
Jim, no problem at all mate. Not going to be doing it for a couple of weeks as I have access to a workshop so I'd rather wait and get everything together and then get it all done in one go! Kev will be giving me hand as well as he's quite interested to see what the GAZzers are like and he's done the fixed column on his so knows what he's doing!
-
Not a big problem to swap the wheels over so when I've ran the new suspension with my Rotas for a bit to get used to them I'll see how they are on the speedies :)
