Blimey thats more than me Andy!!  Is that Onyx you have there? What Zymol wax is that, concours? How do you find them both? I am using Victoria Concours at the minute and cant knock it, the red really compliments my colour and the flake POPS out superbly!

As said clay, then DC step 1 paint cleaner to prep for polish. The step 2 isnt actually a polish as it comtains no abrasives etc, it is actually more of a glaze. So you could potentially do a 4 step, paint cleaner - polish such as autoglym super resin polish (SRP) to fill in swirls - step 2 polish which is a glaze and will give a good shine - step 3 wax. If you decide to use Super Resin Polish (which is a very good product and will hide swirls, especially with 2-3 coats) a good step after this polish is Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection (EGP) which will give the paint a wet shine and as its a sealant gives better protection than the step 3 wax which doesnt last very long. You can also follow the EGP with a wax if you want extra protection. So the order would be: Wash Clay Wash/Rinse Step 1 Paint Cleaner Polish such as SRP or Ultra Deep Shine (good on dark colours and both fill swirls) EGP (as a sealant) or Step 2 (as a glaze) Step 3 wax (optional if you use EGP, must if you use step 2) Hope this helps :) Rob.

Anyone fancy helping a fellow corrado owner out??
herisites replied to herisites's topic in Drivetrain
Actually guys, as i will need to remove the sump etc when fitting the charger then it makes sense to change the wishbones when doing that. BUT can i still do the rest now do you reckon or do wishbones need to be off for any of them? Im thinking of taking a week off, getting a bunch of tools, haynes manuals, guides etc and tackling a few jobs: - ball joints (do these need the wishbones off?) - ARB bushes and drop links (these dont need wishbones off do they?) - Wheel bearing with a home made press - CV boot And now even thinking of tackling the rear axle bushes  probs take 2 days on it but i have done it on my fiesta before so might tackle these with my home made press and a hacksaw etc. When i done my fiestas though i didnt take the whole rear axle off i just dropped the front part with the bushes in and done them whilst on the car, is it not possible to do this with the C? But then i suppose i should just take the axle off and replace the brake lines whilst its off?? Also want to replace rear calipers with Mk4 ones. I believe these are straight fit, i just need mk4 calipers/carriers and brake lines correct??? So if i do these in a week taking my time etc, then leave the wishbones until i fit a charger, does that sound doable??? I REALLY want to try and tackle these jobs myself with as much swearing as possible so i can learn! I dont want to spend so much on getting a garage to do it and not learn anything about how my own car is put together etc. I am actually thinking of doing an evening mechanics course through the summer, does anyone recommend any?? -
Haha just read that whole thread and am quite ammused. That guys a right nob end, saying the VR6 is 170bhp and weighs 3 tonnes :lol::lol: mines 203bhp and 196lb standard and have beat a plenty of civic type r's although not raced a teg im sure it would beat one of them too! And i agree with the money issue, he is obviously spending a lot of money to get small gains out of his steg, where as a vr6 owner can bolt on a charger and they have an extra 100bhp nearly in a day :D

What offset are the rims mate?

Cheers Karl, yeah i remembered your offer, but just lately things are getting clunkier and it feeling sheeite to drive so im not enjoying driving it as much and it was looking doubtful as to whether i would be getting a charger any time soon! But that said (dont laugh) im going to ACTUALLY sort my bike out and get shot of it (i said dont laugh!) i know i have been saying that for ages but i also need to room in the garage now for all my cleaning products   So if i get shot of that i will have enough for a charger so then its just waiting for one to come up, if i get one soon then i will wait and do the lot with you and in the mean time get a few little niggles sorted out that i can do or dont mind paying to get done. Also i have decided that i am going to put my speedlines back on for daily driving and keep the brocks for shows and meets as the brocks dont help the driving experience!! So if i have a nice drive from the wheels then i wont notice the other problems as much! Thanks again everyone for the help! If i end up doing some jobs myself in the mean time i know i can quite easily contact you guys and get help! -
I am going to get the mechs, i have just bent the striker on mine and when the door is locked it still pops the door open, it doesnt open all the way due to being locked but its not good really lol.

Thanks Nick! Like i said i am going to leave it a bit until i can get some time off so if anything does go wrong im not stuck, then i will tackle the jobs myself. The only job that scares me is jacking up the engine!! I wouldnt know what to do really! CoxyLaad, thanks for the tip mate, i think i have a long threaded bar somewhere, but its bound to be one of those things you see around a lot and when you need it is nowhere to be found!! -

Nice one mate, i havent heard of them before and wellingborough's only round the corner. Think i might take a wonder over and get some quotes 8) -
Awesome work mate! The car looks superb and wasnt a bad write up, the good pictures made up for it though :D I know what you mean about the hardness of the paint, my first time machine polishing was on a black mk2 golf and it was a job and a half!! Rob.

Cheers Toad, i appreciate your help mate :) I agree a second set of eyes helps, i do programming and mistakes are always made which i cant see but as soon as someone else looks then BAM they spot the problem straight away  so i suppose its similar with most things including working on a car! Tools are a problem as well, i have a large socket set and a vice (although not connected to anything at the moment ) and i have the room in my double garage and even at my dads lock up which is like a massive garage where he keeps all his work equipment and our race bikes. I may go with the idea of booking a week off work at some point towards the end of May, getting as many guides together, haynes manuals (i have the Bentley PDF but dont really find it THAT useful tbh), tools etc and then just hit it and see how i do. And if anything goes wrong just bite the bullet and pay a garage to sort it out. Whilst they are sorting it i could detail a few cars and make the money back   -

herisites replied to herisites's topic in Drivetrain
Cheers for the advice guys, Goldie i totally understand what you mean that the priority jobs should be done first, the cars quick anyway so the charger can wait. But i also agree totally with Toad, i would prefer to do it myself and learn how to do it! The only problem with that is my car being my daily driver and i wouldnt be able to borrow a car if things went wrong :( I have a fair bit of work on at the moment at work and have to also do a sodding uni assignment  so what i was thinking is to get these done and wait for things to quieten down and then book a week off or something for holiday and use this time to do some jobs on my car, therefore if anything goes wrong im not stuck for getting to work and have time to sort the problems out. BUT this then takes me back to my original point of not being confident enough to actually start the work!! Which is why i asked if someone could help. But i suppose at the end of the day if its just a case of putting bolts back on where you took them off etc so cant go terribly wrong right?? -

Yeah i thought the wheel bearings might be the hardest part, i may just have to pay to get those done, but if i get them to do all the other jobs i will get raped!! If i soaked every nut and bolt in WD40 or Plus Gas then that would help wouldnt it?? -

Yeah i see what ya saying Jim, its just so much money at a garage and even though i can afford it that would put my charger on hold for quite a while!! Which in turn would put back savin up for insurance and my mk1 daily i plan to get and times running out  -

Yeah i thought you needed a press. Shame as im sure its not a bad job if you have a press, i cant fork out £200 or more to get wheel bearings changed!! -

Yeah i have been told to jack the engine up, just sounds a bit dodgy to me, i'd be scared of cocking it up!! -

Oh forgot to add that the VR6 has a low sump which makes taking the drivers side wishbone off hard, you either have to take the sump off or jack up the engine. Preferably i dont want to remove the sump as i need to replace the gasket etc and i will be doing that when i charge it so dont fancy it twice, unless of course thats the only way then i will have to do it twice! Told you im not that good   -
Hi guys, I have had a collection of new parts for my corrado gathering up for some time now, these include: - wishbones - ball joints - ARB bushes and drop links - CV boot rubber sleeve (mines split) I think thats about it, i also want to change my front wheel bearings as they are getting a bit noisy buy mainly for piece of mind and dont want to fork out for a garage to do them!! I would try and tackle these myself as in theory i know how to do it, but i just cant and it really annoys me because i want to do all this work to my car which it needs to get driving nicer but i dont know where to start  So would anyone who's pretty well mechanically minded mind spending a day with me and my rado changing these parts and earning a few quid?? You can come to me (i have a double garage) or i could come to you, obviously within a reasonable distance. I have tools but you may need to bring some if you come to me as mine are fairly limited really. If someone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated as i can get the stuff done without spending a fortune so i can continue saving for a charger (which isnt far off). Cheers, Rob. EDIT: Sorry if this is in the wrong section but its all drivetrain parts so thought this would be the correct section :)

Nah, that looks like a camera on the roof with the timer on to me... Correct 10 points to you!

Yep gave it a go lastnight in preperation for santa pod today. Its great stuff but quite hard work, my shoulders were feeling it todat thats for sure!! The garage was great to hide myself from embarassment  but then by the time i had finished machining etc it was late anyway so nobody would have seen :D Here's just a couple of pics i could be bothered to take: And an action shot, SO glad no-one could see me

PMSL :lol::lol::lol::lol: "Are you a car detailer? Hardest game in the world, done it myself, 30 years man and boy but had to give it up, had a terrible back injury you see whilst machine polishing an '89 Jag. Do you like the music of Frank Sinatra???":lol::lol:

OUCH!! Poor guy must be gutted :( I love Mallory Park, i used to race my motorbike there a LOT of times as well as practise there mostly. I think they have got the name right with 'The Friendly Circuit' as its just a nice place to walk about and watch some motosport, although its not as 'friendly' when you crash there   Rob.

Thanks for doing that video Nathan, i will be doing mine later after i have attacked it with the rotary! Looks pretty much just as i thought it would be and you dont need to use very much at all really which is good, i can see how people could easily use too much wax which could get expensive!! Porsche looks ace as well btw :D
